We wanted to visit Yosemite National Park while in USA and tried to book a place right in the Valley but with no luck so we ended up booking Yosemite View Lodge which isn't in Yosemite National Park itself. It is about 5-10 minutes drive from the park entrance. We are so glad we ended up staying here. It was amazing. It backs on the Merced river. We booked the river view room and had the river flowing directly behind the room. The lodge itself is quite large with a restaurant, pool, spa, and pizza place. The room was a little dated but was still one of my favorite hotels we stayed on our 2 week trip. There was an electric fire place, spa bath, and awesome views, with great charm to the room. I would definitely stay here again, especially after getting into Yosemite itself and seeing the accommodation. To get into Yosemite National Park itself from this lodge, you just catch a YARTS bus into the park, which is less than $20 per person return. The YARTS buses only run a few times a day in and out so double check the times on their site or at the bus stops. Once in Yosemite, there is a free shuttle that goes around the whole park. If I ever return to Yosemite I will 100% stay here again!
Easy check in and check out. Has a kitchenette(stovetop, microwave, refrigerator, basic coffeemaker, cutlery, pots, pans, dinnerware). No resort fees and good housekeeping. Close proximity to the park entrance.
"Best value stay"
During our visit, the storm damaged the route from highway 120. It made highway 140 the only route open. So we booked Yosemite view lodge which was the closest hotel to the west entrance. The location is so good. We arrived at around 4 pm. After check in, we drove to the park and enjoyed the majestic tunnel view sunset. We came back to the lodge for dinner. We spent $9.99 for two phones for 24 hours. The speed is enough for us to check emails and travel guides. The store was well stocked. We have lots of choices for our breakfast, milk, yogurt, banana, ramen, a wide variety of instant noodle, etc. We had two first floor rooms. The Merced River was amazing to see from the back balcony. A small kitchenette was handy for warm up and simple cooking. We had dinner at River restaurant. The service is good and food is not bad either. Although the double queen room is not big, we are able to squeeze in a rollaway bed which my boy said it is comfortable.
we stayed here for 4 days and was the most amazing experience ever had. We had the river view, and we could not ask for MORE....We also had a kitchen that had all the things we needed to cook stuff. Would stay here again. Front desk was very nice and helpful and also the people who clean the rooms are very friendly....!!!! we loved it hereee.!!!!
"Average/good lodging, excellent location to visit Yosemite National Park."
Yosemite View Lodge is the best place stay if you plan to visit Yosemite National Park but don't plan to stay inside the park boundaries. The hotel is not brand new but is newer than anything available inside the park. It is located on Highway 140, pretty much the only road open all year to get into Yosemite National Park. This is good to know especially for the winter months and for those who prefer the least winding road into the park. Pros: Convenient location for visiting Yosemite National Park (with shuttle stop). Newer facilities compared to those found inside YNP. Kitchenette available in room with small sink, two burner stove, a mini-fridge, basic pots & pans, basic utensil set (forks, spoons, butter knives, a kitchen knife), basic dining set (bowls, plates, cups, coffee mugs), microwave oven, and a coffee maker. Rooms facing the Merced River are wonderful for enjoying the river views, water sounds, and just hanging out on the patios and balconies. Outdoor table and four chairs provided. Hotel has a small grocery store and gift shop in case you forgot something or want to eat convenience food in your room or to take into the park. Rooms have heater and AC. Rooms have a seating area with table and two chairs. Beds were decent. Pillows were too squishy for my preference and became immediately flat with pressure. There is an on-site restaurant (open year-round) and pizza place (closed during off-season). All outlets were properly grounded. Close to the last available gas station before entering YNP (no gas stations in the park!) Hotel grounds are fairly expansive with walking paths and trash bins (especially nice if you have a dog or like to take strolls). Hotel staff were all helpful and friendly. Cons: The rooms are in good, clean condition but could use an upgrade for a better experience. Kitchenette has only one very small sink (can barely wash pot & pans), two hot plates that heat very slowly (we weren't sure they were working at first but they do heat up eventually), and no cutting board. Electricity from outlets are weak (will take longer to charge phones, etc...) The in-room heater/ AC unit can be rather loud. On-site restaurant has fair/average food, but will feel over-priced. The bath tub is huge--I see this as a negative in our drought-stricken state. If you want to take a bath with 4 people, it's a good size. Water pressure is weak. There were two shower heads in the bath area and only one was really usable with weak pressure and water flow. Wifi available but you have to pay daily. As someone sensitive to EMF radiation, I actually would have prefered no wifi for the "getting away from it all" experience. No phone reception unless you have Verizon. A very minor to non-existent negative for me. There is cell phone reception in the main valley locations of YNP. Parking is all uncovered (not a negative in non-snowy months). Overall, I would still very much recommend this hotel because of the excellent location, decent lodgings, and benefit of having a kitchenette and grocery store. Everything is basic but is clean enough and works, plus the surrounding environment is nice!
