"Location, Location, Location..."
The location was great (less than 5 minutes to the park). We had a river view room and the view was beautiful. The rooms though are dark and could use some updating but overall not bad. They have a restaurant and pizza place onsite but we only had breakfast in the restaurant one day. I would have preferred not to have to purchase the breakfast buffet at almost $18 per person since I am not a big breakfast person but we did not have a choice. Our room did have a kitchenette which helped out with meals. There is a store about a mile up the road and the hotel has a store onsite as well to purchase food and drinks so you can make your own meals. Overall this was a good value for the location and I would stay there again.
"Most convenient for visiting Yosemite"
Adequate facilities in a beautiful location. The room was spruced up but hasn't been deep cleaned in quite some time. A shortage of electronic keys limited our group to one key per room. But it's the closest hotel to the west entrance to the park and the rates were reasonable. We were there for the park. We only slept at this lodge and it met our needs.
"Couldn't wait to leave"
The national park is spectacular. Shame the accommodation isn't of a similar standard. An hour to check in to eventually speak to someone who clearly didn't want to be there. Was booked for three nights but left after 2 and then embarked on a several month attempt to get a refund. AC not working, shower no working, carpet filthy and I mean keep your shoes on dirty. Someone else's dinner still in the fridge and a family next door who clearly don't need any sleep but then we reckon we saw 9 people in there so go figure. Considering the price of it, you may as well stay at Yosemite falls as at least you haven't got the 30 minute drive to the valley floor for the sake of a few dollars. There are only 2 restaurants for a couple of hundred room, so guess how easy it is to eat there! And the shop, well take a second mortgage..$4 for 500g of pasta. Needless to say the next visit to Yosemite won't involve the view lodge. At least the river was nice...
"No guarantee of staying in room type that you booked"
We booked a Mountain View Two Queen 6 months in advance, thinking we wont be spending lot of time in the room and save $80 over two days, compared to river view two queen. Arrived on the day of check-in around 4 pm. Person at the check-in desk allocated room 1004, which is the worst possible room in the entire hotel. It is located not more than 20 ft from the road, extremely loud noise from vehicles passing by. The building is at much lower level than the road. No view, No balcony, No patio nothing. The level of furnishing inside is even worse. Their website clearly specifies all mountain rooms have balcony or patio. Went back to the check-in desk and this time another lady claims the room allocated to us also classified as "mountain view". She relented after explaining to her its very noisy and the room does not match the description that we booked. Arriving early for check-in helped since other rooms were available. She was kind enough to move us to "Maple" building. This one had a nice view of mountains, superior furnishings, good amount of space. My guess is they try to pick people who they think wont complaint and accept the room in the "Manzanita" building right next to the road. How they pick people for these rooms is another point of discussion, but lets just hope they are not "judging". I booked 6 months in advance and arrived within 1 hr of check-in start. May be the management can reply to my comment here and explain how rooms are allocated to guests at this hotel. Overall, this is a decent place to stay (provided your room is not in Manzanita building, see photo of hotel map) and with a location very convenient to enjoy the valley. However at the end of it I thought I should have booked river view room, since its very clear now that the mountain view rooms are a lottery. Basically check-in desk at this hotel can make your special vacation memorable for the wrong reasons.
The room is nothing special but it comes with a small kitchen. Wifi was $10 a night for two devices. The bathroom was fine. I found the gift shop to be interesting and they sold bottles of water for a fair price! The hotel backs up to the Merced river which was beautiful when we were there. It is the closest hotel to Yosemite valley and the location is it's greatest asset.
