"Just outside Yosemite"
The Yosemite View Lodge is the last place you come to before entering Yosemite from the El Portal direction, which is its main selling point – it's the next best thing to staying on the Valley Floor. The accommodation is spacious if a bit old fashioned in style, although it should be said that most of the places we visited around Yosemite felt like they'd been styled from the 70s and 80s. The food is just above average, but on the expensive side (although again that seems to be the norm for the limited offerings in the national park). I would definitely recommend hiring a river view room, since the Merced River runs along the back of the chalet blocks and makes both a pleasant view and a place to cool off from the afternoon heat, if you are visiting in the summer.
Great location and facilities. Definitely would stay again. Had a balcony looking out over the river, which was very relaxing in the morning and evenings. Pizza from the restaurant was very tasty and was consumed sitting in our tooms spa bath while watching the New England Patriots get a win on the TV. About 15min drove to the famous Tunnelview lookout, be sure to be there for a sunset photo opportunity.
"Very poor "
The hotel has a good location but rooms are old, no internet unless you pay for it. Restaurants are closed for lunch and dinner is very expensive. For a couple more dollars you can stay at the lodge inside the park Which is much better.
Our family arrived on Christmas Day and stayed 3 nights. It is a much larger hotel complex than I had imagined. Our room was clean, large and comfortable. There was a stove and refrigerator with utensils in the room. We were able to cook nice breakfasts each morning. Christmas dinner of turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and vegetables, and pumpkin pie was served in the restaurant on the 25th. It was good, not great, but we were grateful to have dinner on this holiday. We ate another night at the restaurant to good food but slow service. The location to the park is outstanding. The quality is similar to hotels near other National Parks and better than many we have visited over the years. I recommend it and would stay here again. Yosemite Park is a great experience in winter.
"Family Lodge at Yosemite entrance"
Older hotel with a lodge feel, that is clean and close to Yosemite Park entrance. Family friendly rooms with kitchenettes and dishes. The bathroom have oversized Jacuzzi tubs, and the rooms have gas fireplaces that add a nice touch on cold winter nights. There is a restaurant onsite that is usually packed at dinner, but we chose pizza in the lounge, which was quicker. The store has all the essentials and a souvenir shop for gifts. There is a bus stop at the entrance for rides to Yosemite if you don't want to drive in. The staff is always friendly and helpful.
