Over Zion Lodge

Our favorite

"Location, Location"

I chose the Zion Lodge for it's location. April - October you can not drive up into Zion Canyon and must take the shuttle, unless you are staying at the Zion Lodge. They then mail you a placard to display in your car that allows you to drive and park at the lodge only. I got to Zion hours before check-in and called to see if I could drive up early and park, which they allowed. The desk person was very nice and directed me to where I needed to park and provided me with the wifi log-in. Upon check-in, the room was clean and decorated in a 'lodge' theme (of course). The room had a balcony/porch with a lovely view, however there was no privacy screening between my balcony and the person in the unit beside me, perhaps if you're friendlier than me this won't be a problem :) Another thing I'll mention is when the people in the next unit over used their bathroom, the sound of plumbing/water was quite loud. Overall, if it wasn't for the location I'd probably stay somewhere else for the cost.

"Can't write enough positive things about this place!"

We had a king room/suite in the Watchman building for 2 nights. We made the drive from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon to here and enjoyed the drive so much that it was very dark by the time we came in from the east side. So the gorgeous scenery of the park was a wonderful surprise the next morning, but I also wouldn't recommend driving those hairpin turns for the first time in the dark. There was a planned power outage of the Springdale area the night we came in which resulted in an absolutely stunning night sky. It felt a little like camping without power. We had some fun using flashlights to get around the room. The king suite is an extra charge, but it is so worth it. You end up getting 2 rooms for the price of one, as they've taken 2 normal rooms and joined them. There's a king bed in 1 room and then the other has a table and chairs, a refrigerator, microwave, a single-serve coffee maker (with a great selection of coffee and teas) and a sofa bed. But that sofa bed is unlike any I've been on before. It must be a 10" foam mattress that folds because it was more comfortable than the bed - and the bed was plenty comfortable. It's a real queen mattress in size. Although there was only 1 shower and toilet, each of the rooms had its own sink meaning we could put the late sleepers in 1 room without the early risers disturbing them. The toilet/shower room had 2 entrances so either room could access. Each sink had a special tap with filtered water so you could fill up your water bottles. The shower and the sinks had full bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and lotion. I liked that since those tiny bottles are so hard to get stuff out of. We ate lunch and dinner in the restaurant plus a snack in the cafe. The food and pricing were very reasonable. The lunch offers both the menu and a taco buffet option. The buffet was a fun experience for my kids to build their own tacos and salads. The staff here are so friendly and knowledgeable - especially Sam in the restaurant. They do a great job! I've seen some complaints about the pricing. Having come from the Grand Canyon and paid more for a room 1/3 the size, we had no problem at all with how much we paid. Since we came in from the east at night and stayed in the park for our trip, we were sheltered from the crowds and parking in Springdale until we left. We really felt it was worth the price after seeing that!

"Location wins. Decent but overpriced. "

Fantastic being in the park, but so overpriced for what you get. We were in Sentinel bldg, which faces the parking lot. Loud buses unloading tourists, sidewalk construction and trucks, workers splitting logs right in front of our window in early morning. Luckily evenings were quiet. The restaurant on site is mediocre. Don’t go out of your way to eat there.

"Come for the location only..."

We stayed in the Zion Lodge for 5 nights, and wow, what a spectacular location. The rooms were nice and comfortable. The view from the porch was stunning. However, the only reason to stay in the park is the close proximity to the trails, and the views. The food was worse than elementary school cafeteria food, and the service was horrid. The cafe staff was mostly rude, as well as the store staff. The exceptions were Ricardo, and Nick and a few other servers. The prices of the food in both the cafe and restaurant are ridiculously high for the quality. We found a microwave in The Watchman "living room" area that saved us as we bought easy fix food in town. The rooms had a coffee maker, but it would have been nice to have had a mini fridge and microwave for convenience of visitors. Overall, the location is the only reason to stay here. Underwhelmed with everything else. P.S.- Don't order the meatloaf unless you like to eat cat food.

"When in Zion - take this option!"

The view is stunning, the nights dark and quite, wildlife can easily seen roaming the surrounding- an amazing experience, and highly recommended. Food is good, basic. Cabins are modern, well maintained. Attitude of the personal - great!
