"Great location, good but not great hotel"
An amazing location by the beautiful lagoon (which has some of the best off-the-beach snorkelling we've seen). Lots of plus points - breakfast was top quality and really varied; location and lagoon; good sized resort and nothing too far away; great pool; friendly and capable staff; a number of outside dining options within walking distance. But also some negatives - dinner options were rather limited; didn't make the most of their facilities (e.g. pool table just sat there unused and when we tried to play it was impossible as sited on a sharp incline!); little in the way of things for teens to do (no water sports, water polo, limited evening activities) But regardless of the negatives we really enjoyed our time in Reunion and this hotel whilst not 5* is the best place to stay if you want a resort on the lagoon.
We had an amazing stay the Lux Saint Gilles and loved every minute of our time. After 2 weeks in Mauriitus we did a weekend holiday in Reunion and loved it. The internet has a little bit hard to use in the rooms but other than that the hotel was perfect. I highly recommend the Lux. Xx
"Good accommodations in a splendid spot on the coast"
In a very nice location on the west coast of Reunion island, this hotel is the perfect getaway for a relaxing break anytime during your stay in paradise Réunion island. You can dive directly into the lagoon to look at the fish right after a splendid breakfast buffet. Rooms are ok and very confortable. Staff is outstanding !
"Short stay after Mauritius "
Transfer time: approx 35mins from St.Denis airport by taxi in good traffic. Score- 4/5 Check in: we arrived approx 5:30pm but our room was not ready and we had to wait an hour, which was disappointing at that time in the evening, and without apology. We were offered a cold towel and a cold ice tea while we waited. When we did get into our room it hadn’t been properly cleaned; bottles and empty packets still in the bin, a soiled baby nappy in the bathroom etc. Score- 2/5 Room: The room was in a block of 8-10, overlooking a green with an oversized chess board. The room was a good size but poorly laid out. There was a desk with chair but no vanity mirror to dry/style hair & makeup. The shower was over the bath which leaked from under the bath panel after each use; with no fan it steamed up quickly. The sink was large with a mirror and shaving socket (doesn’t fit UK shaving/toothbrushes) but no space/ not practical to put your makeup there. The toilet was in a separate room, which I guess could be convenient for someone showering/bathing but sink in shower room. Toilet also leaking a little and smelled of stale urine even after cleaning. It did have air conditioning, TV, safe, tea & coffee facilities. The minibar was typically expensive. There was a large balcony & the bed was comfortable. We were unsure of the beach towel arrangement so used the two large towels of the four provided in the room. WiFi, terrible! But as an EU location, data roaming is the same as in the UK (wish I’d remembered sooner, 3G was good). Score- 3/5 Pool: there is a reasonable sized pool, but it again is poorly laid out with sun beds only available along one side (restaurants/bars overlook the other sides). All the sun beds are tightly packed together between the parasols, so if you wish to have the option of shade/sun all day then it isn’t the place for you. In the afternoon you have to move to the beach if you wish to sunbathe. There is poolside service for drinks & snacks; staff were quick & polite. Again, we weren’t sure about the towel situation as every other sun bed had a blue towel placed on it, but they didn’t seem reserved by individuals or they’d have been placed together. Score- 3/5 Beach/Lagoon: situated at one of the only places on the island it is permissible to bathe in the sea. The beach is quite sharp yellow sand, not the postcard white sandy beaches you expect for the Indian Ocean, but plenty of sun loungers and close to the hotel. There are a lot of stray dogs wandering freely around, which put us off. Score- 2/5 Restaurants: we only ate at the buffet restaurant as we were only there 3 nights and the restaurant were busy/booked in advance. The food was good, I preferred breakfast (pan au chocolate, croissants, fruit, breads & cheese- there were cooked options available), dinner had a fine enough selection and the ice cream and chocolate mousse were sublime. We would prefer All Inclusive option, but we payed a half board supplement. Drinks were approx €5 glass house wine/local beer. The restaurants are all open air, so no air con and stray cats wander freely around the tables. Score- 3/5 Atmosphere: Obviously as a French department it is geared toward French tourists, so brush up on your translation skills, although there was usually someone who could speak good enough English. Relaxed. Starting to look quite tatty and showing it’s age. Could do with a more substantial freshen up/ renovation in some areas. Score- 3/5 Check out: it’s an 11am departure. We had received a letter through our door the night before that stated the hotel was pleased to offer us our room till our later departure (2pm) and we assumed that because they hadn’t stated a check out time of 11am, or given details of additional cost etc. that this was normal (and due to our delayed check in), but when we returned from the pool at 11:30 our key card didn’t work and the bedding/towels had been removed. Something lost in translation!! Score- 2/5 Overall: it’s a fine hotel, not 5 star by comparison to others. Probably not where you’d chose for a luxurious/relaxing beach holiday but good as a base to go exploring the island, adventure sports etc. Score- 3/5

We enjoyed a lot the stay in this hotel with my partner, everything was beautiful, we were able to relax a lot. The location of the hotel was fantastic and the swing pool was so great to enjoy a cocktail, even better the restaurant la plage, with an amazing view and great food specially the Legine fish highly recommended.
