The Hotel looks like an ancient colonial house. The swimming pool is great- with different depts and we can easily swim. The administration is very professional and like kind also. Appreciated that my room was ready for sleep when i reached at 23.30 after work. The beach in front is great for a morning or afternoon jogging. I loveed using the Red cabin for calling for free my relatives abroad.
"Excellent week at Lux"
Spent a week here for relaxation and luxury after a day in St Denis and 4 days hiking in Mafate. Lux lived up to expectation. Attentive but not fussy service. Excellent restaurants at L Orangine and La Plage and whilst not a big fan of buffet style dining, the Cuisine option was well pretty good. Room was well appointed and quiet with a great view towards the ocean. Took advantage of spa treatments, yoga, pool, beach, all restaurants, shop, beach bar - everything helped us achieve the aim of relaxation for our second week on La Reunion. Convenient base for whale watching, helicopter tour and a drive to climb le volcan. Special thanks to Annie and Priscilla for attentive service. Excellent.
"1 OF REUNIONS FINEST HOTELS - BUT I HATED THE RUDE UNPROFESSIONAL GUEST RELATIONS WOMAN WHO WAS AWFUL & SPOILED STAY"
We stayed in this hotel FOR MY BIRTHDAY. MAIN RESTAURANT: ELEGANT STUNNING OVERLOOKING POOL. WONDERFUL STAFF. VERY SPECIAL BIRTHDAY DINNER except for unedible CRAYFISH ! BEACH RESTAURANT: STUNNING ! MOST AMAZING STAFF !!!! Consistently fantastic ! BREAKFAST RESTAURANT: I hated the breakfast restaurant. It was dark & terrible with horrible staff. ROOMS: GOOD SIZE + DECOR BUT COULD BE MORE LUXURIOUS. BATHROOMS: NOTHING IMPRESSIVE. FOR THIS STAR + PRICE MUST BE BETTER. POOL: Beautiful BEACH: Beautiful with some of the safest swimming on the island as it is surrounded by a giant reef / Lagoon. Read up on the swimming risks on this island if you are a beach swimmer who likes to swim in the sea. It is not possible to swim just anywhere. TRANSPORT: You need a car to get around the island. The villages are isolated & public transport not good except for getting to work & back. Taxis are in short supply in peak season. But this Hotel and the HOTEL LE SAINT ALEXIS at Boucan Canot were the best hotels we stayed in on the island. This hotel was more luxurious than Le Saint Alexis with more facilities & restaurants but I also had a fantastic stay at Le Saint Alexis. Some of the reception staff at LUX were snobbish & this made the hotel feel less classy than the decor actually was because most of the Hotel + Pool area is beautiful. So I blame the staff at RECEPTION + BREAKFAST RESTAURANT. The other staff at the GRANDE restaurant + BEACH RESTAURANT are fantastic & I love them. At the time Dec 2016 / Jan 2017 this was the smartest 5 Star Hotel on the island. There are not many 5 star Hotels on the island. Not even many 4 stars so you are limited if you are a luxury traveller. You cannot come to Reunion without doing the HELICOPTER TRIP into TROU DE FER (IRON HOLE / BOWL) at THE LA PITON DE LA FOURNAISE. It was one of the best experiences of my life. UNFORGETABLE FOREVER !
The hotel is in a good situation on a safe swimming lagoon. The room was nice enough, but looking a bit tired. Very small bathroom with nowhere to put your things due to an uneccessarily huge sink which took up a large amount of room. Pleasant balcony with a view to the sea. Eating was a big let down, the only good food we had was in the fine dining restaurant which was already heavily booked when we started our stay, we had to take a night and time we wouldn't otherwise have chosen. The food was indeed very good, but we do not expect to go to a fine dining restaurant and be surrounded by unhealthy looking begging cats. At least 6 around and under the table. This happened in all the restaurants , very off putting, even though we like cats. The hotel needs to do something about this. There is no move by any staff member to move them on at all. Breakfast is particularly bad, cats everywhere you looked. We found that not everywhere was open at night or even during the day, so no real choice of restaurants, the hotel needs to make this clear in the quieter season. Even having been assured that the beach restaurant would not be serving a buffet that particular evening, it was the only option open and was indeed serving a buffet. Really not the sort of place we would want to return too unfortunately.
"Pleasant stay in Lux"
My wife and I spent four nights at Lux. Overall it was very pleasant and peaceful. Staff were very nice and service was up to expectations. It is a very expensive island and this is consistent in hotel and outside eateries and bars, In one example a pizza lunch and two small beers came to nearly 80 euros in a bar outside of the hotel. This was also true inside hotel. smallest beers min 5 euros . glass chile red wine 10 euros. Supermarkets are regular UK prices. We went for the wales and volcano and were not disappointed . Went on to Mauritius from here but a good start to the holiday.
