"Lovely room and grounds"

We stayed in three different places while in Livingstone and this was nicest of the three (see my other reviews of Avani and Victoria Falls Waterfront) but also the most expensive. I selected this hotel for our last night assuming we would like to have a little luxury after a 21 day overland safari. The good: - beautiful grounds, pool and dining area - Lovely room with many amenities - patio with nice view of the river (good mid-day, late evening- no mosquitos) - nice turndown service - wonderfully professional and friendly staff - good quality food and drinks - abundant quality breakfast The not so good: - The grounds are lovely but unusable in the early evening due to mosquitos. We moved in near the bar under a ceiling fan which helped tremendously. - drinks were quite expensive vs. elsewhere. Overall we really enjoyed our stay!

"Perfect honeymoon escape!"

We had an amazing stay. The views are spectacular and the grounds are very nice. We loved our suite, the only issue was mosquitos. That's an inevitable issue in Livingstone though, and the mosquito netting does help a lot.

"Average and Overpriced"

We spent a long time looking for the right accommodation for our visit to see Victoria Falls. The David Livingstone is marketed as the premium option on the Zambia side. The property is nice enough and does have one of the best views next to the Zambezi, but lets be clear there is not a lot to see here, in addition the 'view from all rooms' is obscured by a treeline, resulting in this being no selling feature what-so-ever. The rooms are small with no real sitting or relaxing area other than the balcony, which is completely out of bounds in the evening due to the mosquitoes - being so close to the river. Housekeeping is good and they offer evening turn down service, a nice extra to ensure the mosquito nets are effectively set-up for the evening. The location is out of town away from anything, having seen a few other hotels in the area, unless staying in Livingstone itself, you are out on a limb and very much in need of assistance to get anywhere. There is a free shuttle and the driver was very welcoming and extremely helpful. Drinks were reasonably priced, food at the bar mediocre and you have to wait a long time for it, but this is standard across most of Africa in my experience. Breakfast buffet had a great range, service staff were friendly but lacked any real level of engagement and the food quality was hit and miss at breakfast. Cold hot items two out of four mornings & no orange juice for two. Watching the monkeys plan and implement their attack on the breakfast buffet and unsuspecting tourists is fun! As I said in my title, this property is average and I come away feeling that I didn't get a lot of value. If booked as part of a packaged priced, as many do, perhaps they don't realise what they are paying, but when booking individually, you realise the stark contrast between the value here compared to other parts of Africa. We paid nearly £280 a night for the smallest room we stayed in on our 15 day trip. If I were going again and decided to stay on the Zambia side, I would stay at the Avani Resort nearer to the falls, at a lower price. Given the lack of water on the falls in August/September/October on the Zambia side however, I'd definitely stay on the Zimbabwe side instead. I'd also leave booking to as close as possible to the time of booking, we saw the price tumble to 40% less than we paid, which stings a little! I asked if upgrades were available to larger rooms, I was quoted a figure that was far less than the cost of pre-booking a suite and was told the reservation manager would get in touch as they might be able to do a better rate given their suites were quiet. No-one ever got in touch. The activities on offer in the area are broad, but expensive. I stayed 4 nights, which is too long, I'd recommend a shorter period, 2 or 3 nights. Chobe National Park day-trip was our highlight, again I saved $60 booking directly online, not through the hotel activity desk. Spend more of your time in other parts of Africa where there is better value to be had on accommodation and activities. I did give this feedback directly to the hotel via their feedback request, of which I got a copy and pasted template response from Roel Damstra, their Deputy General Manager, who really didn't reference or respond to any of my points. I always find it disappointing when a business asks for feedback and then doesn't take the time to personally respond.

"Not for the travelling businessman."

As a businessman, I stay at many hotels/lodges throughout Africa. As a stopover, I found it expensive, as the facilities on offer cannot be used overnight. I would recommend it to tourists or holidaymakers.

"Beautiful place to stay at Victoria Falls"

We had a really lovely stay at the David Livingstone - it's a lovely hotel in a great location with a delightful team and lots of fun activities on offer. The hotel made it really easy for us to get to and from the falls and to all activities, which made it such an easy place to stay. We would definitely stay again!
