We had a lovely three night stay at the David Livingstone Safari Lodge & Spa. The hotel is located right on the banks of the Zambezi River. The views are amazing and we felt like we were in paradise. My kids loved the infinity pool and I loved lounging on the pool deck. You can order food and drinks by the pool too which is awesome. I would recommend the chicken wraps. The Saturday dinner buffet was AMAZING. They served the best creamed spinach and roasted veg I have ever had in my life. Lots of great meat options too. Dinner on Sunday and Monday was quite limited with a small menu. Service was excellent though. Two staff members played marimbas during dinner which added to the ambiance. The rooms were clean. The shower was quite nice although you must be inside to turn it on and it's a bit difficult to adjust the temperature while you are in the water without freezing or getting burned. The water pressure was great. Bottled waters and shampoo are provided in the rooms. The beds have mosquito nets. I would strongly recommend taking malaria pills and brining along insect repellant. Any activities by the river will have mosquitos at dawn or dusk and you will want to wear repellant. This lodge sprays the rooms twice a day for mosquitoes and also on Friday and Monday around 4:00 they fumigate the entire property which keeps the mosquitoes to a minimum. However, be warned: when the hotel fumigates there is no where to go to hide and it's HORRIBLE. The fog from the fumigation was so thick it set the smoke alarms off. People were running for clean air and needed to evacuate their rooms. We were ok for the first half of the spray by going to the front of the lodge but then when they started spraying the other side there was no where to go to breathe. It was terrible. We saw one of the guests vomiting. I would strongly recommend to the lodge that they put a note in everyone's room the night before/morning of the day of the spray to let guests know when they will be spraying. They have a lovely conference center at the front of the property where they could have offered drinks and snacks during the fumigation for example. If we had known we would have gone off property or toward the conference center but we didn't have time and didn't know the extent of the fumes. It was quite disappointing when they sprayed because we were at the pool having drinks and snacks. When the spray came, we had to run off leaving our food and had to pay our pool bill later that evening. Not the pleasant time we were hoping for. It probably took 1.5 hours for the fumigation and clearing of the smoke/fumes. Our kids (ages 7 and 10) were welcomed by the staff. While the lodge is friendly toward kids, I wouldn't call it "kid friendly." You must watch your kids here with the pool, the river, and wildlife nearby. If your kids are well behaved and don't wander off it is ok. One of our funniest memories was the hippo which came to visit one night. It walked around the hotel grounds and even on the desk of the downstairs restaurant. This is what happens when you stay by the river so beware! The staff were very helpful in letting guests know where the hippo was and made it fun rather than scary. We also came across a couple water monitor lizards. Monkeys were at the hotel next door but we didn't ever see them at the David Livingstone. While the activities desk was helpful, you may want to book things on your own. They charge a bit more to book through them and also don't have the same offerings. For example, we went on the Chobe Day trip. The hotel said kids can't go unless they are 10 and kids are charged full price. Instead, we booked through Wild Horizons which accepts kids two and older and only charges them half price. It was a great experience and I'm glad we didn't give up. We booked transport to and from the airport through the hotel and it was $15 per person one way. If I went again I would get transport at the airport. I think they would have charged a total of $25 for the four of us. The drive to Victoria Falls from the hotel is only about 5 minutes from the hotel. We would stay here again in the future. It really was a lovely time! However, I wish they would improve communication about fumigation.

"First Class Lodge and Service!"

The exceptional service started from the moment we arrived, and greeted with a kind gesture for our special anniversary. All staff seemed to take great pride in where they worked, meaning that they would provide a service that was equal to the high quality of the Lodge's surroundings. The location of the David Livingstone Safari Lodge was perfect, depicting what we imagined a Zambezi hotel would be. Perfect, but the only regret was that we didn't stay longer!

"A magical celebration"

This is a wonderful place to stay in a building that blends so beautifully into the surrounds. The staff are the greatest asset here as they are so friendly and warm. We stayed for 3 nights and had a lovely time away. At breakfast there is a good selection to choose from. All eating decks have a lovely view over the Zambezi River - watch a beautiful sunset. We found the dinners quite pricey. Thank you for the shuttle service to the falls and Livingstone. We made good use of this and the drivers are so professional, kind and friendly. Be prepared for mosquitoes - bring a repellent spray and take antimalarial medication. We loved the hotel and would highly recommend this to others.

"Wonderful place to stay on the Zambezi River"

We spent two nights in this beautiful hotel with a small tour group. It is located right on the Zambezi River and we had a nice view from our room's balcony. The room and bathroom were very nice. There were mosquitoes when we visited (in mid-May), but they had excellent mosquito netting and they sprayed and prepared the netting around the bed while we had dinner. The food was excellent - we had dinner one night at the hotel and we were looking forward to dinner the next night, too. But we had to pass on it because we signed up for the hotel's sunset cruise and were fed so many wonderful appetizers that by the time we got back to the hotel for dinner we couldn't eat another thing! [Their sunset cruise, by the way, was great and one of the staff on board was very good at spotting animals and birds - the hotel has its own boat so you don't have to go somewhere to catch the cruise - they dock it right in front of the hotel.] We were also in the area when Victoria Falls had lots of mist and from the river in front of the hotel you can see the clouds of mist from the falls! Also, there are monkeys on the grounds so don't leave any valuables out on your patio! And the lodge part of the hotel (where you eat, the bar, the check-in area) are not enclosed so be sure to bring mosquito repellent and take malaria pills during the mosquito season.

"Great hotel but staff need training"

Fantastic place to stay, Stayed for 7 nights and had trips arranged by activity centre every day which were really good. Food was hit and miss. Staff at breakfast stand around and don't look after you. If you are there at start of breakfast they are not prepared and you have to wait for basics like coffee. serviettes and toaster to be brought out. Had to send several meals back to be redone due to being cold or missing food on plate. Staff did not know how to respond when we weren't happy with food. Had to call housekeeping twice to remake bed (it looked like my 4 year old granddaughter had made the bed). I think most people stay a couple of nights and therefore are not that bothered and don't complain.
