"Excellence with a few flaws"

Arrival: On arrival we were greeted at the airport by the shuttle. The driver was extremely friendly, and made us feel incredibly welcome. We arrived at the hotel to a traditional welcome where we washed our hands, were given a cold drink, and a quick snack at reception as we signed in. A porter escorted us to our room after sign in. So far so good! Excellent service with a smile! Room: The room had a lovely view of the river. It was immaculate and clean. The fridge is stocked with cold water, and all the normal amenities one would expect. There is a can of Peaceful Sleep which came in use throughout our trip as mosquitoes were in abundance. This is where the first issue we had came... our room had obviously not been sprayed before our arrival as there were hundreds of mosquitoes in there. We used an entire can of mosquito killer to get it to a point of relative acceptability. There is a turndown service where the staff come in to put the mosquito netting down and fluff the pillows so to speak. It was a lovely value add service! As it is 25 degrees celsius at night, the aircon becomes a huge lifesaver. Unfortunately there were two nights where the aircon's were off due to a power outage (don't be shy to call reception and ask for a fan if this happens to you). On the third night after the power outages, our aircon stopped working. We called reception, and maintenance was sent through to us. The aircon was fixed within 30 minutes. While this was a bit of an annoyance having it stop working, I was impressed with the quick service in fixing the aircon! Reception was also quick to add that should they not be able to fix the aircon, we could move to another room, and would be reimbursed for the night. Food: Breakfast is incredible. Abby cooks an incredible omelette and is such a friendly guy! The staff are so friendly, and quick to be of service. The coffee is amazing, and honestly, it became something we looked forward to in the morning. The view is awesome, and on two occasions we saw an elephant herd crossing the river! Lunch is also amazing! The food menu is excellent and I loved every single meal I had there. Service is excellent yet again and the staff are very friendly. Dinner we did not have at the restaurant. The cost was ludicrous for a buffet (ranging from $28 to $38 per person, not including drinks) and we decided that eating out would be far cheaper. I don't know why they didn't offer the same menu that they do as lunch for dinner. For dinner, I would highly recommend the Zambezi Waterfront if you don't want to get a taxi to another place (there is a pathway by the Spa that leads to a gate to the Zambezi Waterfront). The food is good and they cater for takeaways. We also ate out at Avani, which has a great menu, the food is delicious and the service is excellent! Pool: One of my favourite spots! Right next to the river, towels at every chair, and someone will always come through to check if you would like to order from the bar. We spent hours and hours there. Lady Livingstone: The cost is well worth it! The sunset was phenomenal on the Zambezi. You are served a starter, mains and dessert and the drinks are all covered. We tried to get our monies worth and were well toasted getting off the boat. There is a guide on board who points out different animals, and birdlife. There is also a marimba band onboard who play some very fun local music. Overall: Such a phenomenal experience! We will definitely go back!

"Wonderful vacation "

The place, the staff, the activities...very clean and organized...very nice place to visit. 😍I'd make it my annual destination. Be sure to pick the room facing the river and keep your balcony doors closed during the day as you may just be visited by monkeys

this place is the best that i've ever seen! every day i think that i want to stay there. It's a beautiful lodge near the zambesi river when you can see coccodrile , monkeys, birds, and if you re lucky and you go in the cruise you can see giraffe and lion. the food is really good the waiters are ospital and nice. This is the place where i spend my best journey .

"Supreme luxury amidst the heart of the Zambezi"

I booked the David Livingstone Lodge at the last minute for a weekend (booked Friday for a stay Saturday and Sunday night) coming from Johannesburg. I figured I could at least see the falls on a day trip. When I arrived Saturday afternoon, I was pleasantly surprised when Charity in the Activities Centre was able to book me for a sunset cruise that night, a falls tour and elephant ride/interaction the next day, and the Devil's Pool experience for early Monday morning. I got to see everything I wanted to in a short weekend trip booked at the last minute. The lodge itself was beautiful (garnering audible groans of jealousy from the others on the van that dropped me off there). Every room has a view of the Zambezi. The room I had was small but had a nice porch with which to sit on and look out at the Zambezi which made it feel a bit more spacious when leaving it open. It was modern (including good wifi) although ideally you'll be out enjoying nature. The only thing that lacked was the food, which was just mediocre. There was a great infinity pool overlooking the Zambezi and a small gym with some treadmills for downtime. The staff as a whole were very friendly, especially Mark at the front desk who was very welcoming. Everyone was eager to help if there were any problems. Some things to keep in mind: -Bring US cash for tips / some activities -It's a low-risk malaria area but there were tons of mosquitoes as it's near the river. Be sure to keep the porch doors closed when not around and the lights off to minimize the chance of them bugging you at night -Don't drink the water - always use bottled water -If you plan on seeing the falls from the Zimbabwe side (the better view), make sure you get the multii-entry visa for Zambia upon arriving ($80 USD). You'll also have to pay a $30 visa fee for Zimbabwe and $30 for the park but it's worth it for the better views if seeing the falls is high on your list

"overall, very good"

I had a major billing issue with the Lodge, that required numerous emails in the month leading up to our arrival. Upon arrival, however, the General Manager was extremely apologetic and the matter immediately resolved to my total satisfaction. As compensation for the mix-up, we were placed in an Executive Suite room, which was luxurious beyond anything we could imagine. Breakfasts were standard. I only ate one buffet dinner, and it was just OK. The (worthwhile) Sunset Cruise, to our surprise, provided lots of drinks and nibbles, so I couldn't eat dinner that night. Is it worth $350/night? That's for you to decide.
