"Out of this world!"
We stayed at the Avani Falls resort situated in the same complex and owned by the same corporation. We visited Royal Livingstone Hotel on several occasions for our meals. The staff were excellent. The newly appointed manager - Mr. Prakash Krishnan went out of his way to organise some Indian vegetarian food for us. He was most ably supported by his staff of ever so helpful and happy people. Terence the chef managed to cook the most tasteful veg korma for us. The evening snacks on the decking with the water vapour from the falls closely and the water of the mighty Zambesi river flowing at full speed and with the amazing sunset is an experience we will cherish in our memories for a long long time. Thanks to all the staff at Royal Livingstone who made it possible with a smile. Keep up the excellent service.
"Snacks and drinks on the terasse overlooking the Zambezi river."
Very slow and bad service! The two drinks and the beer came quickly to the table. After 45 minutes the lukewarm coffee was served. After a complaint we got warm coffee. The sandwich and the chips were served after 50 minutes. " problems in the kitchen" . The bill wasn't correct either. We were charged for more and more expensive drinks. However, the sundowner we had later was enjoyable and the setting absolutly beautiful. You could expect more from a world- famous hotel.
"Unbeatable Location, Great Staff"
We spent 5 days at the hotel and we loved every single day. 1. The location is just perfect - you dine 30 metres from the Zambezi river, plus you see the river from your balcony (view partly blocked by trees though), and you can reach the falls in 5 minutes of easy walking (free entrance for hotel residents - saves you a lot of money on repeated morning/afternoon/sunset visits). 2. The staff is exceedingly well trained and really friendly. I want to highlight Karen, Martha, Kennedy - all truly great people and professionals. 3. The rooms are very comfortable and super clean. The balconies are huge. Two rooms always share a joint entrance - so if you rent two rooms, you get a nice secluded two bedroom apartment. All rooms are in standalone houses - each house has 8 rooms on the ground floor and 8 rooms upstairs, I believe. Each house has a butler always standing on the lawn near the steps, ready to help you - very handy. Plus a lot of security personnel everywhere. 4. The animals. There are zebras, giraffes and impalas grazing on the hotel grounds - sometimes just a few metres off your balcony. Pretty amazing. And there are also monkeys who will come and steal your biscuits from the balcony. 5. Good selection of activities and a smoothless cooperation with external companies. We went for the one day Chobe trip - absolutely phenomenal. Also a long helicopter ride - unforgettable. Mukuni village - very nice. The train ride - a bit too long for our children. You should also see the Zimbabwean side of the falls - the views are even nicer. 6. The food at the hotel is very good. The breakfasts are really nice, with some of the best hot chocolates we have ever had in a hotel. The lunch and dinner menu could have more variety - some more pasta perhaps for the kids? But I understand most guests come for shorter stays so variety is not an issue. Overall this is an excellent place and we will be back. If you can handle the price, go for the Royal when in Livingstone.
"Family trip - April 2017"
I spent 5 days in the Royal Livingstone Hotel. The whole vacation was excellent due to the professionalism of the staff. All members of the staff are well trained and very kind. I especially liked the service in the restaurant. My waitress for breakfasts and lunches was Karen, she was great at all times. The hotel facilities are excellent, the rooms very clean and comfortable. The view from the reception and the garden is amazing!
"HIGH TEA??? Don't waste your time or money!!"
I am a regular contributor to TripAdvisor and this is probably the most negative review I have ever left, but completely deserved. So sad to be our last night in Livingstone and to have had this experience at what should have been one of the highlights of our trip. What a shame ☹ An extremely disappointing experience. High Tea at the Royal Livingstone was to have been one of the highlights of our visit to Livingstone but I can honestly say that I would definitely recommend against High Tea at the Royal Livingstone. With a menu boasting over 10 looseleaf teas and a variety of tisanes etc when it all boiled down there were only 4 available – each chosen option was greeted with “sorry not available†and so the question became “what is actually availableâ€? The menu also listed a large variety of cakes etc and scones with “home made preserves†as well as savoury options; again there was a small variety on hand and whilst the menu stated that all options “may not be availableâ€, in reality not many options were and what was on offer was not necessarily that fresh or appetising. The sandwiches had been sitting for a little while and were not super fresh; and the cakes were also very disappointing and ordinary. As for “home made preserves†– when queried about the availability of strawberry jam, two plastic (breakfast pots) of strawberry jam and marmalade jam were produced. When questioned about the paucity of variety, we were advised that they had run out even though we arrived shortly after the advertised 3.00 pm and that the food was being replenished – it wasn’t :( The beautiful location of the formal lounge overlooking the pool and green slopes down to the Zambezi River and the spray of the Victoria Falls not really too far away certainly softened the experience – but the disinterested attitude of the wait staff and the quality and variety of the menu were extremely disappointing for the price paid. Unbelievably when the tea was delivered the Royal Albert teapot displayed the tags of two Twinings tea bags rather than the tea ordered; the waiter was questioned about this and then returned from the kitchen/bar with a number of teabags on the plate to show what he actually did have on hand. Overall a very expensive afternoon and very disappointing in terms of service, quality and experience. To cap it all off I waited and waited and had to actually request my change after payment. Potentially a great experience – such a shame that it was such a disaster!! I definitely won’t be staying here on my next visit to Livingstone after such a disappointment.
