"Terrible experience for 65th birthday meal!!!!!"
Visited with my wife for my 65th birthday dinner. Starters were either soup or something with salad. Had no starter. For main course my wife chose Oxtail while I went for the rack of Lamb, My wife could hardly find any meat on the Oxtail and it was very chewy. I complained about it and they got some more. Still chewy but more meat. Should have fallen off bone but didn't. My lamb looked like a scrag end of rack of lamb. It wasn't trimmed. I tried to cut through between the ribs but was unable to, so, asked waitress to get chef to cut through for me. That done I then found the meat very difficult to cut and was very very chewy. The 1 potato rosti that I had was flat as a pancake, tiny and underneath some stir fried vegetables. Barely enough for a 5 year old. Asked to speak to manager. Restaurant manager came over. I explained to him and he said he would go and speak to the chef. Came back and he apologised and said they were taking the lamb off the menu and was there anything else I would like. Nothing much on menu so I asked for portion of oxtail, as the sauce was nice. He brought out dish with oxtail which which I put on my plate with the now cold veg. Neither of us ate all our food. We finished and asked for the bill. Bill came and we were still charged for rack of lamb even though the oxtail was considerably cheaper. Called for restaurant manager. Told him how unhappy we were overall and told him I wasn't happy with bill. He returned with a new bill and had not charged us for the food. I told him I did appreciate what he had done. Paid bill for drinks. While waiting in reception for taxi the chef came over and asked what was wrong with the food. I explained and she started arguing that we should have paid for the oxtail as she thought it was fine. She said the restaurant manager had told her I had refused to pay. NOT TRUE. I told her I did not want to discuss it further and asked her to go away. As we were about to drive off in taxi, the restaurant manager taps on window and asked for my contact details as the Food and Beverages manager wanted to contact me. Wrote down my email address for him and gave details of hotel we were staying at. Have never experienced such poor food in a 3 star hotel let alone a 5 star hotel. Have not received any contact from him or the hotel.
"When luxury meets the Nature wonders! "
Amazing lovely luxuries hotel! Amazing location on the Zambezi river overlooking the amazing river and the fantastic victoria falls!! Architecture is amazing very comfy, food is really nice, i enjoyed 2 times amazing diners one in couple and the other one with the business team, and a tasty burger and fries on the pool side bar, food is tasty, nice looking and very convenient cost vs quality. We also had a very nice South African wine recommended by the friendly, smiley and professional staff! Wherever you stay in zambia you should definitely enjoy a bottle of wine overlooking the sunset on the zambezi river and the amazing victoria falls before enjoying a wonderful diner.
"Overrated, overpriced with big problems"
Having spent a week in a fantastic camp on the Lower Zambezi river we were looking forward to a real treat from the RLH. I think we always try to find the bright side of any place we stay but from start to finish this hotel really let itself down. To summarise it would appear that the staff and management are at war, with a few exceptions the staff seemed unhappy, disinterested, and unengaged. There was no porter to take our bags from the taxi, I had to seek out someone from reception to find one. The check in staff were robotic and failed to give advice on the basics such as internet proceedures etc. We were taken to our room which, by any reasonable standard was shabby, mould marks in the bathroom tiles, limited tea, coffee, reminiscent of an airport hotel. We dined in the main restaurant and paid high prices for what was a very average meal, it was capped off when we tried to add a tip to the bill in the space provided and were advised that if we did the management would take the money and not pay the waiter his share. We amnaged some $US cash. The same happened earlier when the bar waiter actually scribbled out the tip section of the bill with a pen. You get the feeling that the management and staff are at war and that we the customer are in the firing line. Most unsatisfactory. There is a bright side, the location is very good...
"Gorgeous and relaxing!"
We spent one night at this hotel prior to leaving Africa and after having been on a safari for 2 weeks. It was a wonderful place to be because the atmosphere and service help you unwind and get ready, either to go home or to start a journey. The essence of the property is old Africa and very luxurious. There are places to relax and unwind as well as adventures to be part of, if you want to do something. The setting alone is a visual feast and you can see the mist of the falls rising from the lawn of the hotel. The rooms are gorgeous and each one has a butler assigned to it. They are ready to help immediately and my final memory of my trip will always be this amazing place,
"Excellent gem found just a walk away from Vic Falls"
I can't figure what was nicer the presentation of the resort or the staff. Both were superior to other resorts. All the staff members provided a friendly smile when in proximity of them though 2 that stood out to us was certainly our waitress for meals Judy, said and the person we always went to at the front desk Rachael. At the resort you have an amazing veiw of the top of the Falls water going over and what is also neat is that they have zebras, impalas, and Giraffes there at the resort. Though what's nice is that they roam to their choosing and sometimes their come right up to you almost. The only thing I thought the hotel lacked was that the room accommodations were nice but certainly not on the level as you would expect, still the beds were fabulous. Another thing that didn't bother me but also didn't thrill me was that they have security almost everywhere on the pathways and sometimes it's overpowering, plus have the time their doing nothing. Though overall this is a very nice place to stay and is sure to be luxurious.
