Great location for the falls and other experiences. Lots of bugs in the room though and too slow to receive something from housekeeping. Food was ok. Bar staff not so friendly down on the deck. Love the animals walking around
"Great location and buildings, service somewhat haphazard."
We stayed at this hotel for two nights. Buildings are superb, well designed with wide verandas, brass lights and a certain colonial feel ( in a good way ). The rooms and bathrooms are also very well appointed. The pool area is great. Excellent access to the Victoria Falls just across the road from the hotel grounds. Our butler was there to meet and greet... however there were insufficient towels in the bathroom, no bath matt, no shower gel, no conditioner and four wipes in the Kleenex box. No water in the room on arrival. M'bo at reception was attentive and most helpful... Tea somewhat odd, there is a price for tea and one slice of cake ( the carrot cake was delicious ) and another price if you wish to add anything else, even a scone ! Food and service in the restaurant haphazard ,,, a request for water three times produced not a lot. The F&B manager finally intervened. If you can find Sylvia in the restaurant she is very good and things happen. So, Overall a good place to rest and recuperate after some game lodge early mornings. It could be first class if management were more visible and active.
"Sumptuous Hotel with direct access to the Victoria Falls"
This is the winner for a visit to the Victoria Falls - they score well in every possible category. They're also one of only two hotels with free and direct access to the falls The property is spectacularly beautiful and the grounds are on the Zambezi River and your can hear the mighty thunder of the falls from the hotel grounds. They have a lovely outdoor pool and also a Zambezi riverside deck for lunch, beverages and snacks - the only caveat is that the service is beyond slow and quirky. But hey when you're in paradise with nothing to rush to its probably a good thing to decompress and take in all the beauty around you!! The rooms all face the Zambezi - if walking is an issue for you request one closest to the main building of the hotel.Rooms are well equipped and incredibly comfortable and all have outside decks. The surprise was to encounter very domesticated Zebra, Giraffes and other animals strolling the grounds! The hotel is pricey but worth it! The food at the hotel restaurant is very good and the menu changes nightly. High tea is served in the lounge and adjacent to it is a pub where a pub menu can be had. Be prepared to relax and enjoy things in a slow and leisurely style! If you get up before the restaurant opens for breakfast at 7:00AM the hotel has coffee, tea and a selection of pastries on hand for you in the lounge!
"A property of contrasts"
The setting and building are magical. Walking up to the lobby that overlooks the Zambezi brings a smile to the face of even the weariest traveler. The first time you see the zebras roam in front of the great river with the sunset behind them, you will feel positively transported. I LOVE that the hotel carries Molton Brown products, and I also love its proximity to the Zambian side of the falls. Best of all may be the shocking beauty of the main bar and lounge area's interior decoration. As for the bizarre (and I've got no clue whether these remarks are due to a change that's taken hold since Anantara took over)-- There is CLEARLY no system in place to incentivize good service and disincent bad service. If I had to guess, I would speculate that the only check on service standards is fear of an occasional audit by a supervisor. The result, of course, is that some people provide superlative service (Tony, Silawe, Panganani, Jhennipher, Franchela, and a few others whose names I couldn't commit to memory), while other service experiences left such a bitter taste in my mouth I hesitate to recommend this property to others (and to consider staying at Anantara's other properties moving forward). The other strange thing is that the dinner in the main restaurant is dismally bad (I would recommend eating in the bar, which, incidentally, is one of the most beautifully decorated rooms I've ever seen).
Royal Livingstone is an excellent facility if you would like to relax in the midst of pressure. The staff are warm and welcoming; they make you feel at home. The relationship manager Chola Jere is very charming and warm. All the staff seem to care about you every minute. The facility is clean with superb security. The Victoria falls is accessible throughout your stay. The bar is excellent accessible 24/7. Great facility indeed.
