"Colonial splendor beyond expectations"
Magnificent service awaits anyone who steps into the Royal Livingstone Hotel. Nothing is too much trouble for the numerous gracious and attentive staff. The panorama view of being on The Zambezi River just above the Victoria Falls is beyond what we expected. The multitude of hippo's and bird life was also very enjoyable. The free roaming zebra's on the riverbank hotel lawns were also wonderful. Chef Marcus Meek will take any guest on a gastronomic journey with his amazing dishes which can be enjoyed with a good wine selection all served by the attentive waitrons under the charge of F&B Manager Prakash Krishnan. The great welcome given every time Edward dressed in Scottish-Zambian dress is also something to behold!!
"awesome facilities and common areas, not so good rooms"
the location of the hotel is great, overlooking the zambeze river and 15 minutes walking (safe walk unless zebras which are free in the property scre you) from the entrance to the zambian victoria falls park. entrance to the park is complimentry for hotel guests. zebras and impalas run free through the gardens and several giraffes are in the property; complimentary cart driver can take guest to see the giraffes if so requested. the whole staff of the hotel (managers, receptionists, concierges, waiters, husekeeping, butler, security, maintainance staff... al of them!) are able to make the guest feeling welcome and very well attended at all times. the common areas, same the entrance, the reception area, the bar, the restaurant, the swimming pool... are really elegant and pleasant driven carts are always available to take guests to the different parts of the hotel: the property is huge. my room was like 5 minutes walking from the reception area. unfortunately, the rooms are not as good as the common areas. the size is unexpectedly small for a hotel of this category, up to the point that there was only one bedsite table for a double room. the minibar had a poor selection (no beer!!). there was a large flat tv, dvd is made available on request, the safety box was ok and the storage capacity was clearly unsufficient for two persons. the bathroom was also of small size. the maintainance is not the best either: the ceiling fan fasteners failed and it stayed hanging from a wire over our heads. 90 minutes after our call, nobody had come to fix it. it was fixed later, and the management had the good gestue of inviting us for dinner. the air conditining did not work very well either and the room was too warm in general. the restaurant was very good and the staff very efficient. the breakfast buffet was very good, with a large variety of hot and cold dishes. the bread quality and variety was below the rest of the breakfast. we good good quality drinks at the bar, but the staff was rather slow. the free wifi was good. we did not use the spa, however a lady from the spa gave us a complimentary hands short massage while checking-in which was great. considering that the hotel is not close to the city and the nearest shops are at the entrance of the falls, by 15 minutes walking from the hotel, the souvenirs shop of the hotel should have had some basic products as well (or an additional shop with basic products should be opened) the overall experience was ok, but not memorable due to the small size of the room and the additional deficiencies mentioned. i do not think i would use again this hotel if visiting victoria falls in the future, however i would probably recommend it to a friend.
Can’t recommned this tranquil oasis enough! The tranquility, peace, calmness, location, design, thoughtfulness of the staff etc, etc. makes this spot unique. If you are considering a visit I would not hesitate - I can honestly say you will not have a moments regret!
"Absolutely the Best at Victoria Falls"
Lovely staff lovely hotel. Within sight of the falls mist (top side). Beautiful grounds with animals. Giraffes were walking around the groups, as were many antelope. Be careful to keep your balcony doors shut when you leave the room. Moneys know were the coffee sugar can be found. Frequent choral groups singing near the entrance. We felt very pampered as guests. Breakfast was an outstanding buffet. Location is within sight of the falls on the river. Suggest not getting too close to the river - crocodiles.
"Elegance Alive and Well"
From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, the level of hospitality and comfort surpassed anything else we experienced in a month in African hotels. The quality of food, the staff, the ambience and the spa were exceptional. As we checked in, we were offered a delicious cocktail and a hand massage. Our evenings began on our balcony (every room has one) overlooking the Zambezi River listening the hearty roars of the hippos and the zebras enjoying 'happy hour' from the hotel water fountain. Prakesh, the Food and Beverage Manager, ensured every guest was attended to in terms of cuisine and comfort. Individual staff members went beyond the call of duty. Our room was luxurious and the whole experience left us both not wanting to leave.
