"Lovely hotel with great location"
This hotel was a highlight of our trip, though a bit pricey. Lovely rooms, great restaurant and nice pool, as well as only a 10 minute walk to the falls entrance. Sadly there are a lot of intimidating souvenir salesmen outside the hotel (and everywhere in town) and the hotel was a great retreat.
"superb hotel , great location"
Ilala lodge is a small colonial-style hotel, very close to the falls and walkable to the entrance of the national park in about 15-20 mins. Two elements really stand out . The staff are so friendly and helpful, they love to engage with the guests and the food is top quality . we had planned to eat at different restaurants around the area, but there was little point the quality was that good. one tip is to spend a little extra and book a deluxe room . They are in the part newer part of the hotel only completed last year. another big surprise are the animals that wonder around. We saw elephant , warthog families every day, mongoose and antelope , they appear relaxed and used to the people . all in all a great experience , the falls were breathtaking and would definitively stay at Ilala lodge should we return .
"Beautiful hotel, friendly staff and great location!"
we were recommended this hotel by Trail finders, who we use for multiple centre/flight holidays. Beautiful, we had a large room overlooking at gardens, plenty of wild life visits each day to add to the attraction!! Breakfast was beautiful, staff were superb and great setting! could see mist from falls! We ate dinner in restaurant too, excellent. Cannot recommend it more - great start to our holiday!
"You can see the spray from the Falls!"
The nearest hotel to Victoria Falls, this hotel has been expanded from its original 16 rooms and we had one of the bigger, newer ones. It was equipped with everything we needed with a patio onto the garden where warthog, banded mongoose, impala and monkeys roamed at will. A watchful member of the hotel staff stood in the garden with a catapult to deter monkeys who fancied our food! The spacious restaurant provided excellent local dishes and a great variety and we could eat inside or outside in the gardens. The Falls were only a five minute walk down the road along which men cycle every day from Zambia with their produce for sale or exchange in Zimbabwe. Local craft stalls are situated just behind the hotel. Locals were very keen to make sales there but hotel staff very happy to chat about life in their amazing country. Not cheap but excursions arranged as part of the package. We went on a sunset Zambezi River cruise seeing much wildlife.. A recommended place to stay in the town.
"Ilala Lodge - A Travel Agent's Perspective"
There were 12 in our group, traveling from Kasane. We were greeted with cold cloths and cocktails. Our portfolios were put together, rooms assigned and luggage brought to the rooms. We didn't have anything scheduled right away, so we enjoyed lunch at the hotel and checked out the grounds. We stopped at our room before lunch. It was very nice - the AC worked well and there were toiletries in the bathroom. We had a great, ground floor view where we saw a variety of animals. The beds were comfy and the hall was quiet. All the meals at the hotel were delicious. We were able to try a variety of local type dishes and meats. The first day/night, the service was a bit discombobulated but I think it was because we were a large group. We eventually worked it out and everything was fine. The meals were fairly priced. The pancakes in the morning were amazing!! We took advantage of the laundry service, as I felt it was reasonably priced. Housekeeping was punctual and thorough and the front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is centrally located, within walking distance to many other restaurants and the falls. I do not encourage walking without giving you a heads up that there are many independent vendors selling carvings and such, especially Zimbabwe money. It's sad to see people so poor. They are very persistent and will follow you all the way to your destination. The hotel has no control over this so just be prepared when you leave the hotel property. You can get some excellent deals but just keep a small amount of money handy so you don't get roped into buying more. We hung at the pool one afternoon for a little while. It was clean and refreshing. We didn't have a lot of down time for the trip so other than sleeping and eating, we were not at the hotel much. I don't know much about the other area hotels but Ilala was beautiful, accommodating for the group, convenient and just absolutely lovely. You can't go wrong staying here, I highly recommend it!
