"Very nice. "
We stayed in a room away from the main building closer to the market on one of the stops of our honeymoon and it was wonderfully quiet. Wild animals came right up to the patio doors, they had bug spray in the room which was nice sincere there weren't any mosquito nets but we didn't even really find that we needed it very much. The restaurant was lovely although we only had a snack by the pool and breakfast but the food was very good and nice choices for breakfast. The pool area, really the entire hotel, was very clean and well cared for. The only issue I had was that the advertising of the hotel and their website make it seem like you can see the falls from the hotels front lawn and all you can see is a little bit of the spray. We chose this hotel because it was more reasonably priced over the Vic falls lodge and our impression was that we'd still have a view of the falls from the hotel...which we did not. You cannot even hear the falls from the hotel, but you do hear a lot of helicopters going over on tours. I don't know if we would have chosen this hotel if we were fully aware of this, however it was a lovely hotel and a very nice place to stay in Victoria falls and is a reasonable walk (through 38 degrees Celsius) to the falls gate.
A lovely end to a fantastic stay in Botswana and Zimbabwe. Downstairs room was very comfortable and cool. Warthogs browsing in front of the room was amusing. Breakfasts and dinners were great and drinks by the pool in the evening was very relaxing. Staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended place to stay in Victoria Falls.
"Make sure you stay in the new build"
First impression of Ilala lodge were hugely disappointing. A run down room full of insects and even a scorpion. The room had no mosquito net above the bed, surely an absolute basic requirement? After we complained (the room was filthy) we were given a place in the new block, WAY better. We had a net! However it was still not clean, housekeeping here are awful. You do get a nice view of animals at the small watering hole and the restaurant is an absolute must. Most people we met here were using this lodge as a relaxing part of a more adventurous holiday, so the pool was used by many people, unfortunately and weirdly, there are less than 10 sun loungers so often you miss out on pool time. Pay a tiny bit more and go to the bigger hotel down the road
Only stayed one night , enroute to Zambia and it is only 5 minutes walk to the "Falls ". Our Agent described it as boutique, that may apply to new part, but we were in a ground floor room in original hotel. Would describe it as more " colonial " and little old fashioned, but high standards with great views over the national park from bar / dining area. We only had lunch and breakfast here. The breakfast was really good , but we thought lunch expensive , as is everything in Vic Falls. Our room was more than adequate, but a bit tires. Great veranda, where we sat early morning watching the Elephants walk by having there breakfast, only 5 metres away, great start to day
Nice hotel. Beware extras as tours .. tourist traps .. too expensive and not worth it. Nothing special.. slooow service .. I booked for my 25 anniversary and not 1 nice detail.. (even though I told them!)
