Vanuit Victoria Falls worden tal van excursies en activiteiten aangeboden en is daarom een ideale uitvalsbasis. De plaats Victoria Falls ligt aan de Zimbabwe zijde van de Victoria watervallen.
"A stylish hotel within walking distance to the falls"
My husband and I spent 4 nights at the Ilala. We had a ground floor room and really loved watching the daily antics of the warthogs and baboons from our patio. The chefs are fantastic and made a good effort to satisfy vegetarians. My husband had the ostrich and found it really delicious, but with food so expertly and skilfully prepared, you really don't even need to go elsewhere. The only downside was that you can hear the microlights and helicopters but they were just a small distraction in what is otherwise a really chic, laid back resort with a decidedly relaxed vibe. The Ilala was about a 20 minute, easy walk to the falls and there are several good restaurants nearby for a change of pace.
"Beautiful hotel in a great location"
Gorgeous hotel that combines traditional design with modern rooms. Air conditioning worked great and the room was spacious and comfortable. The Palm Restaurant is a great place for any meal, and the breakfast that came with the room was plentiful and delicious. Loved seeing the baboons, warthogs, and waterboks that roamed the property. Within easy walking distance of the Falls as well as restaurants and shops in town, and you can even see the spray from the hotel.
"Food of the gods... and more"
I was going to give this place 4 stars because the internet was not up to scratch and the accommodation was a bit industrial... but then I had dinner here. Holy cow, this resort is smuggling some serious kitchen talent. Serious talent. Like world class serious. Wow
"Lovely stay at Ilala Lodge"
We stayed at Ilala Lodge for 2 nights and enjoyed our experience. We stayed in a renovated room in the adjacent wing, on the top floor with a lovely view of the watering hole and falls in the distance. Breakfast each morning was very good and especially liked being able to order hot breakfast in addition to the cold buffet. Wifi is free but spotty in your room. Worked very well in the dining room though so take your cell or laptop there. Air con worked very well in room. A few bugs here and here but it's Africa so can't really complain about something so small. Some things to note: bring small bills/change for tips and souvenir purchases ($1, 1euro coins, or 10/20 rand notes) as there is no official currency in Zimbabwe and we heard money withdrawn from their ATM is rarely accepted because it is so old and worn out. Definitely order transportation from and to the airport - the hotel charged us $80 each way for 2 people (YIKES!) although I did heard of cheaper options after the fact. Would not recommend a cab as border crossing can be spotty at best. The hotel is definitely walking distance from the falls - just be prepared to deal with hawkers trying to sell their goods or rent you a rain poncho as you get close to the falls. Just ignore them and say no thanks, or stop and barter. There will be helicopters flying overhead during the day, but not for long and easy to tune out. Honestly the music from the elephant place next door was more annoying. Mini-bar is stocked upon arrival but never re-stocked. You can buy water across the street at the gas station for $1, otherwise it is $2.50/bottle from the bar, or you can do like I did and fill up a water bottle at breakfast ;)
My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights at the start of our 3 week South African holiday. The hotel is perfectly positioned to enjoy all the things that Victoria Falls has to offer and it is well positioned for trips to the Falls themselves. Staff were all very friendly and switched on and the food in the restaurant at nice was excellently cooked and presented. My suspicion is that 2 nights is probably a perfect time to stay at Victoria Falls.
