"An experience not to be missed...buy a package."

It is understandable that many are less than enchanted with the accommodation. It is basic and not exactly pristine, but do you come here for a room? Our Mountain View room was on the lower level (#56), definitely the best spot as you are not overlooking other rooms. Our view was delightful, a mountain vista as far as the eye could see. The helipad was across the grass...very interesting for us when the Polair helicopter delivered a previously lost hiker at around 9pm one night. Everything is expensive if purchased separately but, if you are here to do all the tours (as we were) and not worry about having to find breakfast or dinner, then a package is a must. We paid for the 'Best of O'Reillys' two night deal. The only extras were a picnic lunch at the vineyard, drinks, and sunset at Moonlight Crag (with champagne). The picnic lunch was overpriced at $75 for some bread, dips, and cold meats.....but to have it on the grass by the creek was very pleasant. All the staff, and the guides, were helpful, friendly, and enthusiastic. Carolyn at Reception was forthcoming with helpful advice. Kyle in the dining room was outstanding. Guides Mark, and Kurt, were exceptionally knowledgeable about the area and wildlife, and made it all such fun. But the 'piece de resistance' was a morning 'billy tea' experience with Michael O'Reilly and Glenn Threlfo. We were given a very entertaining history of the O'Reilly family, along with billy tea in the bush (with great views and birds) AND some musical entertainment in the form of a harmonica duet of 'Waltzing Matilda'. Perfect. We walked through the canopy (free) alone, and the gardens at the end of the boardwalk, as well as joining the guide for the early morning bird tour. The bird tour is well worth doing. I've never been so close to wild birds before. Similarly the 'Birds of Prey' talk, tho' these birds are captive. We went on the zip line. That was fun, but the walk up the hill not so much for an elderly lady. One magical night we were taken through the bush to sit quietly by a creek in the dark and see a wall of glow-worms across the water. Moonlight Crag has the BEST view, tho' you are at the whim of the weather as far as sunsets are concerned. Our sunset was not spectacular, but to be there with such a view, sipping champagne, and have Mark tell us about the district, and the history of the O'Reilly's various exploits, was not to be missed. We were up close and personal with eagles, owls, quolls, snakes, and squirrel gliders. Such an experience! Don't count on five star food. The restaurant is adequate, but the wait staff excellent. Our first night we had the 'special' lamb. It was great, but the food went basically downhill from there. I would not have been happy paying the menu prices for just OK food. 'Happy Hour' in the bar offered select cocktails at $15 each. No bargain. All up, would we go again? Yes, BUT we would choose a season when the birds were not 'moulting' and shy. We didn't see any Regent Bowerbirds at all.

"a great peaceful getaway beautiful setting scenery, a walks and nature"

This is in a magnificent setting. The rooms are a little tired and dated and definitely need upgrading. I felt the peace and tranquillity of the surroundings compensated for this. you can dine in the lovely dining room and the food is of a high standard. There are many activities available both free and to pay for eg the free ranger early morning bird walk, the free ranger waling tour, then their are the Segway tours plus many more. The café next door is ok for coffee, the food is not brilliant, but the views from the deck are gorgeous.

"Very disappointed for the price you pay"

I had the wonderful surprise from my partner that I was going to be staying at O'Reilly's for my birthday. I had always wanted to stay there as I thought It would be beautiful. We checked in to our 2 bedroom apartment and it hit us pretty much as soon as we went through the door. There was black mould on the wall as soon as you entered. Everything appeared really tired, when we turned the lights on there was so many dead bugs in the light fittings that there was only half of the light able to shine through. I sat on the floor in the lounge area by the fire and saw that the material on the end of the bed had ripped from pretty much side to side and it was just barely hanging on. When we tried to stoke the fire with more wood, the caddy was empty, so we had to borrow wood from the neighbors. The flowing morning we showered and it was like they didn't know what exit mould was.

"Relaxing, beautiful - a special place"

We stayed three nights in a mountain villa, enjoyed birds of prey show, glow-worm tour and two half day walks through the national park. We loved it, and will come back and spend longer next time. Birds and wildlife, giant trees and beautiful waterfalls- a truly special place.

"Great location,very average accommodation"

After 35km on a narrow, often one-lane road we were hoping for a vacancy at O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat,a place we had heard a lot about. We counted ourselves lucky to have a 'Mountain View' unit allocated as we had not booked in advance. - First, the positives: The staff were very friendly & efficient. The cost (before we saw the room) was acceptable. Beds were comfortable & generous in size, the view from the balcony exceptional. The surroundings are wonderful,tree-top & bush walks very well maintained to make it possible to see wildlife & rainforest habitats. A 'free' afternoon tea was provided. - The actual room was somewhat of a disappointment.Stained carpets, dated 50s furniture in poor condition,no tea or coffee making facilities other than a kettle you had to take to the bathroom to plug in. The balcony is in urgent need of a coat of paint. The carport below the unit was inhabited by Swallows & their nests & had not been cleaned of bird poo for some time. So,while we did enjoy our stay due to the surroundings,we would not return whilst the place is in its present run down state.
