"Above and beyond"

Our fourth visit to O'Reilly's was just as awesome as the first three and what really shone this time was the staff. We have generally had excellent service every time we stay (usually 3 nights) and always come away feeling very well cared for. This time was no exception when my car broke down on the day we were checking out. Steve from activities has only joined the team recently but he was absolutely brilliant in trying to get the car started and then towing it for me to a place accessible by RACQ (who had already unsuccessfully tried to tow it earlier in the day). Steve also does an excellent glow worm tour and is very handy at the bottom of the flying fox. Great sense of humour and keeps everyone entertained as well as educated about all things great and small. Special mention to Claudio and Damian on reception who handled me in quite a state as well as RACQ (twice) in my absense. Loren, Mark and Glen were also great for advice on the car (and the stressful situation). As always I was so relaxed by Spa treatments by the lovely Georgia - she is a brilliant deep tissue massage therapist and does excellent beauty therapies too. Describe our holiday ending in such a dramatic fashion we all came away from O'Reilly's refreshed and ready to take on the 2017 school year. Thank you to Brenden and the whole O'Reilly's team for another excellent stay. We will be back for sure xx

"Having had a few visits to O'Reilly's it is time to give it a review."

Usually, we go on one of the walking trails, which are amazing. However, early this week, we drove up at twilight to have a meal at the restaurant. For once, the road wasn't busy and the changing light on the mountain made everything glow. The brilliant cooks, Vipin and Raki (yes, we asked to meet them) made delectable food. None of our group was disappointed. Raki's mango cheesecake is beautifully presented and made me want to bring friends back for more. The wait staff were so helpful and friendly. A special thank you to Ebonnie and Tommy for such considerate service. I would recommend staying at the resort overnight, too. As dedicated driver down the mountain, I prefer taking interstate visitors overnight to O'Reillys. :-)

"Beautiful Views + 4WD Laughter"

The drive up to O'Reillys at circa 1100M / 3500ft was a delight for me, the driver, but Management (my wife) was tired and not so sure. The view from our (tired) room was beautiful and the multi coloured "parrot" visitors to the balcony came to say hello. This is an excellent place for walkers. Oh to be young again to do more walks though the walk through the tree tops was fun but then there is always the 4WD. There are a number of other activities to try if you stay longer, but do not miss the 4WD outing with Glen and Mick O'Reilly taking you into the past, into the mountains with a stop for a damper (sort of scone + jam etc.) cooked on an open fire with a billy can of coffee else tea. You will split your sides with laughter as you drive across the terrain. Be fir, be strong as you move your own luggage and reception are less than helpful.

"We Miss Your Dinner Buffet"

it’s always a treat visiting the green mountains section of the lamington national park. We have been returning many times since 2001. Its all about immersing oneself in the experience of the Rainforest, birds and many walks. There is a comprehensive list of walks in Lamington NP listed on the Qld Government national parks sports and racing site. This time my son and I were challenged by the 22 km class 4 Albert River Circuit. Walk this track anti clockwise. Lots of cascading water and the view from Echo point was certainly worth the effort and is the place to sit and contemplate (Cominan lookout is only a break in the forest along the track). We came across the hissing of the blue spiny cray. Note this track was full of leeches and I am still applying cortisone cream to the 10 bites on my lower legs. Unless camping, there’s only one place to stay at the Green Montains section and it is at O’Reillys rainforest retreat which has its original lodgings and the newly built Villas which is where we stayed this time. The Villas are not serviced. There is enough foliage to afford each Villa some privacy and I was lucky to finally see the green cat bird in the tree outside the window. Pillows were hard. Apart from some maintenance issues ( one ceiling fan did not work properly and to open some of the awning windows I had to remove the fly screen and push out the window while cranking the winder ) and having no fly screen on the concertina balcony doors to repel mosquitoes which meant we had to close them overnight when we would have preferred to leave them open, the view was great. It would be a good idea to clearly label the two rubbish bins behind the car port roller door as garbage and recycling. As where we come from the red bin is synonymous with garbage not recycling. We did not see the sign on the front door until it the rubbish was collected. There was no welcome folder in the Villa. We had to give the Villa a good mop and clean as the floors blackened our feet and the bathrooms stank of other peoples urine. It is a very steep to walk back to the main lodge dining room ( especially on hot days ), so we drove back to the camp ground car park. The mountain café closes at 230pm on week days ( closes too early for tea and scones ) and the store it not that well stocked ( no fresh produce) so if staying in a self contained Villa make sure you bring up all your food. We had in mind making our own breakfast and then dining at the Lodge. O’Reillys used to have an excellent Buffet Dinner with an optional a la carte menu. It was fare for the bushwalkers no pretence. One of The O’Reilly family would come around and asked about what walks you did and what activities you were doing the next day. There used to be many desserts to help yourself to. Sadly these days are gone and it is only an a la carte dining experience. This means expectations are higher and the wait staff have to be excellent. Unfortunately no one came to take our order and the food quality was so dreadful and inedible the first night we cancelled the rest of the dinner package. There were certainly problems with the Kitchen and wait staff at O’Reillys that night. We opted instead to choose the old trusted Breakfast package which still remains a buffet and was enjoyable. After running out of food for dinner at the Villa we had to return to the dining room. This time the food was better than before but still not as I remember it in the good ol’ days. I overheard a waitress saying she was doing the work of two other staff. Hopefully Management can make some operational changes to the way the dining room runs to bring it back to its illustrious days.

"A bit dissapointing"

I was very much looking forward to my stay at the retreat, however was slightly disappointed for a number of reasons. 1. In the photos, the "infinity pool" looks like a luxurious place to relax, with beautiful views of the mountains. This is not the case. The pool is a 15-20 walk from our room, has not got a view of the mountains at all, and is not looked after. The bushes around the pool are very overgrown, ruining the view and taking away feel of it being an infinity pool. The whole swimming area was also full of wasps, which massively puts off swimming. This area could be amazing if the hotel looked after it. The photos advertised are extremely deceiving. 2. The staff - I found the majority of the staff unpleasant. The ladies at reception were not approachable or friendly. 3. The restaurant - I was extremely disappointed in my meal. I order a rare steak, however it was well over cooked. After sending it back, I was brought a new one which looked exactly the same as my first one - medium well rather than rare. I found the staff did not seem to care that much! The only positive things I can say are the bird feeding - there are so many beautiful birds that land freely on your arms. And also the view from my room was very nice (I had a mountain view room).
