We stayed at Deerhurst Resort for a dance competition over the weekend, and we had a terrific experience. We had a room in the main pavilion and it was clean, bright, and had a nice little balcony attached. It was great to be able to open the patio door to get a bit of fresh air into the room, which is rare these days. We would have used the balcony more but as it was still a bit chilly at night, and we weren't in the room much during the day. In the bathroom, we found a welcome letter and four dark brown wash cloths to assist my dancer with make up removal, which was a nice touch. The beds and pillows were comfortable, and to my daughters delight, they were thrilled that the Disney Channel was in the tv line up. Even with the amount of guests and children, we found the room to be quiet, and if there was noise in the hallway, we did not hear it. The decor in the hallways is due for an update. There was some definite wear and tear visible. My children greatly enjoyed the pool and we were able to get some swim time in with their dance friends several times. Towels are plentiful and the change rooms were clean and roomy. Even with a number of parents watching their kids swim on Friday evening, I was able to find a free chair to relax in. The kids all enjoyed some time in the arcade as well but beware - many of the games were not working and several ate our tokens even though they appeared to be up and running. On busy weekends, if you win a lot of tickets, only the very small prizes remained, which my kids still enjoyed and got their use out of. There were two prize machines, but only one was working during our visit so it took a while for the kids to redeem their tickets. A half an hour to 45 min max will probably do the trick if you are trying to plan your time at the resort. I was very happy with this resort and the layout for the dance competition. We lucked out to have our dressing room right across from the rehearsal space, which was very convenient. The few times that the rehearsal hall was packed, we were able to run through routines in our dressing room. Lots of water was always available in the hallways and on tables near key points throughout where the dancers would be going back and forth. My daughter was quite happy with the stage, which sometimes seem a bit wobbly when set up at hotel venues. For the most part, seats were easy to get to and I was able to catch most of the routines even if you were stuck at the back during the very highly anticipated routines. We ate mostly at the Eclipse dining room using the meal plan and the Maple Pub and Patio, which I will review separately. The wifi was easy to access and fairly reliable, but I think due to the volume of users on Saturday and Sunday, we did have some issues with lagging, getting kicked off, etc. so I did switch if off for a bit, but it was a minor inconvenience. The front desk staff were always pleasant, efficient, and patient which was awesome. All in all, we had a great time and plan to return for a visit where we can really relax and take in more of the local sights with warmer weather.
The staff was very pleasant especially at the general store and the pub down stair , in the main restaurant ...very helpful and professional. They really did a good job on the renovations all over the resort
"Deerhurst Mid Week Stay"
Adequate facility. Visited twice. Not as likely to visit again. Peaceful, quiet room. Cosmetic decor would be an improvement. Seemed, as last time, like any other hotel and not a resort experience. Time of year was a factor I am sure. Close to Algonquin Park.
"3 REASON to take advantage of mid-week pricing"
1) you get to enjoy premium facilities at a deep discount - we paid $99 special rate 2) very large facility with usually one dining option and gym plus expansive lakeside property 3) the hot tub is nice and quiet Enjoy !!
"No concern for safety complaint "
We went to Deerhurst over the Easter weekend (Fri-Mon). There were lots of negatives but the main problem for me was that on Sat we went to the pool and there were NO towels. None. For long enough that it became a concern for my baby. While adults can wait a couple of hours for a towel, my one year old started to get very cold and could not wait. So my husband had to go back to our room (which was inconveniently in another building) to get her a towel. By the time he got back her screams had stopped because she had no more energy to get them out, she was crying, and her lips were purple. After she was dried, dressed and back at the room with my husband, I went to tell the front desk to let them know what had happened and they logged it as a complaint and assured me management would follow up with me. No follow up happened. I expected management to call and apologize for putting one year at risk. After checking out I asked if my complaint had been logged and they said yes. I asked why management hadn't reached out like I was told they would and they said they would let their managers know. Well it's now Wednesday and I still haven't heard back. Other problems with the resort: *extremely expensive restaurants and they hike up the prices even more for holidays. *suites are in a different building and the rooms in the main building are very small. You have to decide what you're willing to trade off. *carpet in the room was dirty and stained. *staff were very low energy and as if they just didn't care. A bit like they were just dragged out of bed and forced to interact with customers. These were some of the negatives... but again, my main issue is that they don't seem to care that they put a one year old's health a risk. Unbelievable.
