Over Deerhurst Resort

This “resort†is anything but. Front desk not particularly helpful, no information on the resort or its amenities can be found in the room or anywhere for that matter, nowhere is there info about the surrounding area, nor could the front desk clerk answer any questions. Rooms are dated, and with a mostly empty hotel, a room was given facing the parking lot. Definitely not the way to entice someone to return.
"Great Family Getaway"
Great time away from the city with the family. Plenty to do and great service and food was good. Service was excellent and activities desk was very helpful and excellent customer service. Great value for the full week there.
"Great Family Escape Destination!"
We stayed at Deerhurst for several days during the March Break. It was a perfect choice! We stayed in a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom condo which was just perfect. It was clean, well-stocked, very comfortable and well laid out. It even had a gas fireplace to enjoy in the evenings. The location is close to hiking trails, snowshoeing, ice skating on the lake, horseback riding, escape rooms, snowmobiling, cross-country and downhill skiing. The resort has many amenities like a spa, restaurants, swimming pool and hot tub, plenty of activities geared for children (climbing wall, arcade, activities rooms, arts and crafts), an art gallery/exhibit, and more. Staff throughout the resort were friendly and helpful, and always smiling. The only reason I gave it a 4-star (very good) rating instead of 5 (excellent) was that there were not as many activities as I was hoping for our 3 teens (aged 13-16) who nevertheless really enjoyed their stay. Definitely would return and definitely would recommend it to others! Would love to try it out in the summer months!
"Nice resort but fees should be optional"
Nice resort. Winter activities are ok. Did March Break package and was ok for kids. Some of the activities a little thin on appeal after awhile. Resort fees include use of skates, skies, snowshoes but did not want to do any of that so found the resort fees useless and should be optional.
"Luxury Resort that is looking in its rear view mirror of better days gone by."
We booked Deerhurst for its March Break activities as a birthday gift for my daughter. We had a mid week two night stay. I was grateful for the amount of activities that were available at no charge (fun zone comes to mind) but I wish there would have been a little more clarity about the target age for this. My daughter is 11 and while the fun zone was fine, I couldnt help but feel like all of it was geared towards younger children. It was very busy those two days. We used the pool twice and it was fine. Big enough for many kids and the towel service was plentiful. We were booked into one of the suites outside of the main lodge and had to drive back and forth between the two to get to the amenities. Our room was adequate and clean. The washroom was super tiny but again, adequate. There was a smaller cooler type fridge on a desk that worked well, a Keurig machine etc. Essentially what you would expect from a Quality Inn type of hotel. The vibe I continued to get from the entire place was that it had been considered "upscale" and was clinging onto that vibe but you could see the age of the place in a variety of places, namely our room, the pool etc. I had heard about Deerhurst from so many people and I continued to say to myself "this is it?"...a bit underwhelmed. I can never sleep well outside of my own bed so take this next comment with a grain of salt...the beds and pillows were horrible. I had the WORST sleep I've ever had in a hotel period. Back to activties...lots of skating and snow shoeing to do. We did that and it was nice. Went to Arrowhead Prov Park...did the skating trail (15 min drive). We ate at Eclipse restraurant for breakfast....and got nailed for $80 for 4 of us to do buffet. Pricey to say the least. I decided to drive out to Boston Pizza for dinner to avoid the other pricey restaurants. Overall it was an expensive few days. $500 for the room, probably about $400 for food...I didnt think I got value out of what was trumped up to be the prestigious Deerhurst resort. Someone told me that "the place became a dump"...I dont think so at all. But it did show a bit of its age and the premium pricing didnt help. Probably wouldnt go back.
