"Spectacular Killarney Destination"
Wonderful relaxing stay at this unique and iconic resort nestled on the beautiful shores of the Killarney Channel. Picturesque and peaceful, the new and the old combine to provide a spectacular getaway . I love the new Portage Covered Suites. So cozy and well-appointed. Very much a reflection of beautiful Northern Ontario. The renovations are amazing and yet some of original buildings remain an important part of the ambiance. Truly a wonderful destination!! We will be back!
"A sumptuous resort overlooking the Killarney Channel"
While camping in Killarney Provincial Park on Carlyle/Terry lakes, we paddled almost daily from our campsite to the parking lot and drove to the town of Killarney. One evening we walked to Killarney Mountain Lodge, which had just undergone very major & expensive renovations (we had stayed there several years ago and had a wonderful time). We ran into Mr. Kelly McAree, General Manager, a very nice, no-nonsense man, with many years of experience in the hospitality industry. Considering that he must have constantly dealt with employees, guests and plenty of other issues, he certainly had to possess special qualities to successfully run such renowned Lodge. He immediately offered to show us the whole property. He even took us to the chalet which used to be the residence of the original owner/builder and his family. The view from the Chalets was breathtaking and they offered very luxurious, yet still rustic experience. We were quite impressed with the newly renovated & expanded lodge! As we were standing on the shores of the Killarney Channel, I saw West Fox Island and other Fox Islands where we had camped several years ago. From the hotel’s balcony we spotted a van towing a kayak. He told us it belonged to Traci Lynn Martin, a brave and extremely adventurous Missouri woman, who had embarked on an 8,600-mile Great Lakes odyssey in March, 2017, hoping to complete it in 2017. According to the “Detroit Newsâ€, she stopped her journey in late 2017 because of the rigors of wintry weather on Lake Ontario. Still, she paddled 3,582 miles from March and completed lakes Superior, Huron and Michigan. On October 15, 2017 she became the first person to circumnavigate the three lakes in one calendar year. She said she would try again in 2019. What a spirit! The next night we went to Killarney Mountain Lodge and had a tasty dinner, sitting outside on the porch, which we enjoyed very much—it was a great diversion from our daily meals around the campfire!
"Nice new facilities; but service needs to vastly improve"
The hotel has undergone some impressive renovations in recent years. The new extension of the lodge, which includes newer rooms (with comfortable beds) are a nice added feature. Look, it is important to understand that this hotel is trying to position itself as a Lake Rousseau; however, it has a LONG way to go respecially when it comes to attentive customer service. At the price-point they are charging (no small fee), their wait staff and check-in staff need to step-up their game (especially wait-staff and bartenders). Again, setting is amazing. Location on the water wonderful. It is a great a place to kick back and relax and unplug *(no wifi or TVs in the rooms, and this is intentional). With respect to service, it is important to note the comments I made above... restaurant service is WOEFULLY SLOW (so bad in fact... the hotel leaves you a memo in your room explaining to you why service is so slow... frankly, I'd rather the hotel just staff themselves accordingly as opposed to having a laminated letter in my room that says "if you want breakfast at 8:30am [duh???] that will have to wait an hour for service (ridiculous). That said, the food is good and the dinners are pleasant (albeit somewhat overpriced re: quality). Another weird thing is that the Carasel Bar closes at like 11 (we arrived at 11:05pm, staff all there, could not get a drink to save our lives... to me, just silly and the place was half full with customers willing and ready to buy more rounds of drinks on a Friday night). With respect to the scenary and the location to get to the Provincial Parks and the litany of trails, this place is well located. The town is tiny and great to spend a day puttering about. If you are big City person and expecting luxury and doting people to serve your whims, this is NOT the place for you; however, if you need a good place to sleep; with decent food (and hopefully improving service Standards), then this lodge is the place for you.
"Great Place to Stay in Killarney"
This is a picturesque and peaceful resort with friendly staff and spacious, well-appointed rooms. It is conveniently located close to one of the most beauful spots for hiking in Canada, Killarney Provincial Park.
A wonderful weekend! The fall colours were simply amazing! If the cost of the rooms is not an issue, this is the place to come in Killarney! We were treated very well. Don't think we would stay there during peak season though, as the cost too high for us.
