A big thank you to Mark and Juliana for taking us out on a beautiful sunset sail and the added bonus of a full moon sail. Your hospitality was top notch and it was a pleasure helping crew the boat. Best of luck in all your endeavors, Kathleen and Ross July 2016
"Beautiful property but disappointing stay"
We visited this hotel a few weekends ago, roamed the beautiful grounds and had a drink at the amazing carousel bar. That quick visit was so great that we decided to book a one night stay for this past weekend. We were aware that it was the "last weekend" but we were not made aware that in fact they were in the process of shutting down for the season: the dining room was closed, linens were in the recreation room to be stored, and the most disappointing: the Carousel Bar was closed. The buffet meals (dinner and breakfast) were good but not what we were expecting. The rooms themselves have been updated to some extent with new beds, but they on their own, without the other expected amenities, are not worth the almost $300 that we payed for the night. We had high expectations and were disappointed. We are not likely to stay there again.
"wonderful, unforgettable, will repeat!"
Clean, quiet, very rich facility, very friendly staff, good restaurant & bar, good and clean pool, much to see and do around, right at the lake (and boat canal), just 200m from the village at the Georgian Bay, can kayak for free there, the facility has the equipment, a perfect place to relax. Close to the park, the lakes, the outfitters. Many alternatives.
"On Rolling a Water Bottle Across the Room..."
Killarney Mountain Lodge is a lovely place in a gorgeous location. The Lodge has some elderly buildings (one burned earlier in 2016). But, despite age and the tilt of the floor in our room in one of the buildings--You see, it was so tilted that I easily sent a full small water bottle rolling from front door to bathroom door--the Lodge is still delightful. Perhaps a tad too many red Muskoka chairs scattered about the grounds (a few variations in colour would help). Nevertheless, new construction is underway and one hopes that despite tilted floors the charm of the old buildings will remain. Restaurant is very good--food is well prepared and service was excellent. Room amenities very basic but still fine. The new owner appears intent on developing the site into a major attraction and we wish him well. Only hope it does not scare away the bear cub that seems to have taken residence in a tree in front of our accommodation. Nice additional entertainment and some great bear photos! The real joy of this Lodge, of course, is its location. Grounds are lovely with views across the channel to George island and the village itself is delightful (nice church) when businesses are open (many already closed in September). Lodge offers boat tours--try one it is a nice experience.
Our daughter and her fiancé chose Killarney Mountain Lodge as the location for their wedding. They wanted a destination wedding which could accommodate up to 120 guests, allowing family and friends to enjoy prolonged time together but without asking guests to pay for extended foreign travel. The other main reason was that Killarney Mountain Lodge has been the highlight of our Around-Georgian-Bay boating vacations for the past 20 years, and nowhere symbolizes Georgian Bay better. The Lodge and the staff more than lived up to our already-high expectations! The ceremony took place on the aircraft ramp, with guests looking straight down the Killarney Channel right behind the wedding arch, giving a really spectacular view and lovely romantic photos. The formal photos were in the very scenic grounds of the Lodge, featuring the signature lighthouse entrance in the background, then out at the Killarney Lighthouse itself. The new Great Room was without doubt the best location ever for a wedding dinner, giving it the feeling of a castle banqueting hall, but warm and cosy, and with great food! The reception dance was in the Games Pavilion, which we decorated with trees and fairy lights to create a magical aura. The night before the wedding, we and our guests packed the Carousel Bar, largely due to Andy Lowe's wonderful renditions of our favourite songs, making the evening a memorable but unplanned party that lasted late into the night. The overwhelming reaction of our guests, including some that stayed in the nearby Sportsman's Inn, was that the entire weekend was total fun and relaxation. Their enjoyment was very evidently demonstrated when, during one of the dinner speeches when appreciation of the staff was mentioned, the entire group of guests stood spontaneously and gave a rousing 30 second ovation to express their thanks to the entire staff. As the bride's father, I have to mention my sincere gratitude to Bonnie and to Les for the friendly and efficient way they managed the entire event. From the wedding couple themselves, to the extended families and to the many guests who travelled from overseas, absolutely everyone felt that, not only was this the perfect location and photogenic backdrop for a wedding, but also that every single member of staff, from the servers to the house-cleaners, made them feel welcome and encouraged to the relaxation of a true Georgian Bay experience.
