"so much snow, nice!!"

Snow all around the resort, beautiful!! It was packed when we arrived at 4. An hour later was able to get our room. waited at the bar in the lobby, enjoying the beautiful, huge stone fireplace!! Enjoyed our beer and then into our room. Laurent brought our luggage up for us. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We also did room service one night. It came with very tasty food on a table for our room with a rose on our table. We did snowmobiling and dog sled ride, so much fun! The tubing is short and for the kids. Not very high, especially if you have done it in Banff, yes we are spoiled by our high mountains! a tip, crappy fridge more like a cooler. They told us to fill our ice bucket up and put in fridge. Drinks stayed cold after and still had ice in bucket after days. Loved our stay. Ate at Bistro downstairs, very yummy and spacious.

"Could not have done it without the staff"

We recently had a week long meeting at the establishment. As the administrator of the conference, I could not have pulled it off without the amazing staff of the Fairmont. From the door people, to the desk people to the amazing management, they went above and beyond the call of duty many times over the week to make the experience amazing for your delegates and for us running the show. I highly recommend this establishment for any stay whether a vacation or for a meeting. The food is incredible and the people there are fantastic.

"I really don't understand..."

I truly don't see how a place like this can command the prices which they do. We paid $1400 for a 2 night stay, which including 5 meals. Leading up to our visit, we had spent weeks looking forward to a fun family getaway. The shock when we walked in the room cast a gloomy, depressing tone for the rest of our stay. We weren't prepared for worn, yellowed carpets, a ceiling that literally drooped, a tiny washroom equipped with tarnished fixtures that were hard to operate. To say the rooms are dated and tired is a bold understatement. I know it sounds shallow/superficial, but it's a crushing feeling to suddenly realize that you've spent so much money on something which is... well, repulsive. My wife and I spent the weekend beating ourselves up about it. There is little (if any) sound isolation in the rooms, and we were regularly awoken by people waking (sometimes running?) in the hallways at night. Worst of all was a wedding party on Saturday night, the music from which came through loud and clear until late into the night. I've read other reviews about the food, and again, I must be missing something because it didn't line up at all with our experience. Most of the main choices in the buffet are over-cooked, devoid of seasoning and generally uninspired. For $58, I enjoyed the cheese selection, and the roast of beef was decent. I tried all the warm seafood options, and there really wasn't anything remarkable in any of those (the smoked salmon was good). The restaurant does, however, have a very nice wine list. The wine we had (a Shiraz) was very fantastic. The idea of lounging on a couch around the central fireplace seemed appealing. However, the strategy for securing one is to hover around long enough until someone gives up their spot. We never got to enjoy those, probably because we gave up well before all the other people who were hovering like sharks trying to get the same. We did do a lot of the activities (tubing, swimming, skating, etc.) and enjoyed those a lot. Most of the better activities aren't covered by the resort fee, of course. The staff were generally very pleasant and helpful. Although the bartender in the main lobby did seem to get overwhelmed late in the afternoon (long lineups). Truly enjoyed the piano player who came in on the Saturday afternoon. Housekeeping seemed to be very good, our room was very clean. I apologize for being so negative, however if you are spending $1500 on a weekend getaway, there are far, far better options (old Montreal, Boston, Las Vegas, etc.). Thinking back on our visit, I feel a mix of resentment and frustration. I wouldn't want anyone else to feel the same, my advice is that you spend your vacation dollars elsewhere.

"Good Family Fun!"

The Chateau Montebello is set on acres of lakefront land and is fun for the entire family. Although the rooms are quite dated, and the bathrooms are small-- don't fret-- you won't spend much time there! In the summer you can swim in one of two pools, kayak, paddle board, hike the trails, horseback ride, mini golf, play on the playground, dine at several restaurants or visit the spa. There is even a supervised movie night for kids so parents can eat dinner together and take their time doing so! Don't expect glamorous rooms but do expect amazing food options, excellent service and plenty of activities to keep you busy! I would go back in a heart beat!

"Christmas Treat"

This hotel offers a very enjoyable Christmas package. The unique building dates from the 1930s, so the ambiance is classic northern lodge. There have been upgrades to the fabric, but the rustic theme prevails. The location on a bend of the Ottawa River is scenic and abutting the property is the former Papineau home, now a museum. The Christmas package offers great activities for children, including a visit from Pere Noel who arrives by sleigh, mounts the roof and enters from the chimney of one of the six huge central fireplaces.
