"Scrumptious breakfast!"

Excellent family hotel. There are so many activities. My favorite was dog sledding. We also enjoyed the games tables on the second floor. We played backgammon while sipping champagne and watching the other guests. The room was cozy. Love the linens and the soaps. The bed was a little soft for our liking. Thankfull it was winter because there were smokers under our window. Our room was next to lobby. Great walk to village.

"Even better than you might imagine"

Sitting right before we left, we had to take another hour savouring the amazing cocktails of the mixologist, just looking at the surroundings in front of the gigantic octagonal fireplace that stretches far up into the sky. One of the great old hotels of Canada, the central lobby is just the beginning. The pool complex looks like something out a lodge for millionaires (which I guess this hotel kind of is), with a nearly standard length pool beneath a high, decorated ceiling, and hottubs overlooking everything. The grounds are pristine, and boats pack the marina. Multiple places to eat and drink inside allow you to take your time moving through the place over the day and night, before retiring to your amazing room. And as most Fairmonts are when not in high, high season, the price is usually isn't to shabby either. If you haven't been, go. Go now. Just pack your bags and go right now.

"Unique experience"

We stayed in February 2017 on A truly wonderful break in an unusual hotel. Hotel staff impeccably helpful and polite. The room was cleaned daily and towels also refreshed everyday. The lounge area with its huge 5 hearth fire place was a great place to enjoy a late evening drink especially after temperatures of -19 during the day. We heard plans that the hotel was to undergo a ‘make over’ and whilst I agree it could benefit the bedrooms, I do,hope they don’t spoil The uniqueness of this hotel.

"Packing it all in to an overnight stay"

This is a fantastic hotel for people who like to be well taken care of but don't mind--or perhaps actually insist upon--a few rough edges. We had one night to celebrate a birthday and we made the most of it. In the course of 24 hours we played tennis, rented a radio controlled truck (I know, got talked into it by my daughter), took bikes on a ride through the forest, swam in the beautiful indoor pool, had a birthday dinner where the kids tried many new foods, played cards in the lobby (required), and had lunch and swam in the outdoor pool area, and swam in the indoor pool again. Quality remains very high at this great hotel. We booked a slightly larger room this time, the Deluxe Room with 2 Queen beds. This was located toward the end of one of the wings, overlooking the courts. Two things worth mentioning: Sunday brunch (pricey) is a *huge* deal and often sells out, so if you want it, book it days in advance. We went with a normal breakfast and it was great. Also, if you're having dinner at the hotel (recommended) there may be a kid's buffet, but maybe not. Ask ahead at the front desk, but expect this to change by the time you're sitting down. On the plus side, the kids' options on the main dining room menu are really good (if they like steak, get it). Also there is more casual dining in the bar.

"Overpriced and badly managed"

Had a very unsatisfactory stay here. Came with the intention of checking out some winter activities to find that there was no fire as they had a chimney fire that morning. We dined in the restaurant and while the server was very nice, the food was terrible and had to send it back. The beds are not comfortable and in the morning we realized that there was no nice fire to come back to as the fireplace was not up and running so we didn't feel very much like doing the winter things as it was cold so we just left. Basically we had a so so stay in a not so luxurious room at prices higher than I'd pay in NYC. We asked a manger to call us but customer relations just contacted us by email and basically offered us some very small discount if we returned at some point. It very annoying response that their fire was posted on the site that morning ( we had booked late at night and travelled early in the morning) Who looks at the site after they've booked? I think the hotel should have contacted guests who were going to check in after the fire and offer them the option of re-booking when everything was up and running properly as a fire is a huge part of the cozy winter experience. Had I been offerered that option I would have chosen to do that. I think the customer relations manager is terrible and needs to understand that it isn't ok to charge people these kind of prices when they didn't offer the experience that their website exhibits. When we wrote back again to tell her that her response wasn't acceptable and that we had already asked twice at this point for a manager to call us back her reply was that there was another fireplace in another location somewhere on site (again something the staff did not make known) but there was this attitude that so what our fire wasn't working you could have gone elsewhere and that it wasn't a big deal. She also said she was not aware that we wanted a call back from a manager, this is something we requested from the desk clerk and when she responded by email we asked her again for a manager and again she wrote an email back. It seems to me that a customer relations manager needs to learn to listen to the customer better and to understand that this wasn't a good experience. We have stayed at many very nice hotels and this doesn't come close to that nor does the lack of concern about a guest's experience seem like that of a quality hotel chain. This is not the way an upscale hotel should respond to customers. My daughter was very excited about a winter experience that we did not have and that we were charged for and this is our response. It also appears that all management is away because when last going off I asked once again to have a manager call us apparently there was no one at management level available until late next week sometime. Seems to me management does not want to deal with or that the customer relations person is there to prevent customers from speaking to a manager. Email is not acceptable!
