"After Cruise 3 night stay"

4 of us stayed at this hotel (2 rooms) after our 7 day cruise. Olivia checked us in and was very sweet. We were told the rooms weren't available yet, but they stowed our luggage so that we could tour the city and check back at 3pm (checking in time). No problem so off we went. Later we were back at 3:30 only one room ready. Still ok. Later in the evening we were out and thought we would go back to the hotel to the roof top cafe there. We were going to our rooms first to drop off things and get freshened up and we were stopped at the elevator. Our elevator was also used to access the roof top cafe. We told him we were going to our rooms and we would like to go to the roof top too. We were told that the roof top was full and try back in a little bit. We went to our rooms and freshened up and thought we would check out the roof top. We were on the 5 floor and we went up to the roof via the elevator and there was another young man who asked us if we were going to the cafe. We said yes and we said right this way. Ok great. It was a lovely night, there was plenty of seating on the first level of the cafe. We wanted to get drinks, walked up to the next level went to the bar and a young woman with a walkie talkie named Jade told us to leave. Not, may I assist you....do you had a reservation....just you have to leave. We asked why and she said they were full and Escorted us out! She was very rude.We asked about the addition seating area and she said that was not open. It looked open to us and since we were staying at the hotel we were surprised my her rudeness and the way it all went down. She followed us out well beyond the point appropriate. The young man at the elevator took off down the hall as we rounded the corner to the elevator. So rude. We asked, "Excuse me," he shot a look down the hall and said, "do you want something"....? We were going to ask when would be a better time to come back, but that was it! We went down to the front desk. Made our complaint . Got a call the next day from customer service (Dennis) and we said he understands that there was some confusion last night....I said there was not confusion, your people were very rude to us and as hotel guest we were very disappointed in there service. He offered us a drink in the bar...I declined. Then an offer for dinner. I declined. I told him that we would prefer to spend our money elsewhere. I would not go back. We were treated better by a different hotel bar down the street. The location is good but, there are a lot hotels in the area. When we got back to our hotel getting to the elevator was hard. The area was packed with young people trying to get to the roof. We had to push our way through the crowd, but we were ready with our room keys to offer proof of our stay. Again rude to us at the elevator as we got in, we just agreed that this was enough and the last time we would stay there!

"Weekend in Montreal"

We visited for the weekend - family of 4 (12 and 14 year old boys) and stayed in an executive suite. The master was in a loft above a small sitting area with a pull out. We brought a blow up mattress for our younger son. It would have been tight placing it on the lower level so he was up with us. Bathroom was spacious and clean. Hotel staff was nice - but not always efficient. It took 3 calls and more than 90 minutes to get extra pillows and towels on Friday evening. Hotel restaurant, Brasserie 701 could not accommodate our dinner reservation because children were not permitted in the evening (other restaurants have same issue so be sure to ask - open table doesn't provide that detail). Upper section of our room was very loud as it was across the hall from the entrance to the terrace bar/restaurant. Lots of foot traffic on Friday and Saturday nights into early hours.

"The reviews say this is a friendly hotel and they are right"

We recently stayed for four nights. The hotel is conveniently situated and has two good restaurants (on Japanese) and a roof bar. It ticked all our boxes. Ultra friendly and efficient. We both had a couple of treatments that were excellent. The gym is OK but I have been a lot better. That said, there was plenty of equipment to have a decent workout. If I went back to the city this is where I would stay.

"My new favourite in Montreal!"

This was my second stay in 3 months after enjoying a great weekend taking in a Canadiens playoff game with my son in May. This trip was business however and the Hotel Place d'Armes did not disappoint. It is a great property which makes creative but practical use of historic buildings next to the most important historical square in Old Montreal - just across the square from the Notre Dame cathedral and in the heart of the old city shopping and dining scene. Great location that fits right in with its boutique style. Rooms are really well appointed and comfortable with large and well set up bathrooms- great showers especially. I had business meetings in the area and used literally all venues in the hotel for meetings as well as dining in my own. Bistro 710 was perfect for a lunch meeting with a great salad and fish and chips for my guest and me. The rooftop terrace is outstanding for its views, atmosphere and the food and drink was great. My guest felt the poutine was a little too much while my salad was great. House Caesar drink was excellent and a good reasonable wine selection. And lastly a late night sushi snack in the Japanese restaurant was excellent. This may make it sound like a big hotel but it is all really well done within a great boutique setting. Definitely returning!

"Great trappings, lack of attention to detail"

The Place d'Armes is in a great location in Old Montreal and has all the appearances of a top notch place. Great looking spa and restaurants. Rooftop terrace. Good amenities. The restaurants and spa were all well done. As the hotel is the union of several old buildings, there are some very cramped spaces, especially when waiting for the elevator to our room (which was also the one for the restaurants). A hotel like this one is usually the sort of place where you'd expect to just be able to relax and not think. There were a number of little details and oddities -- nothing over the top bad, but enough to break the calm. The room itself left something to be desired. The layout was incredibly tight until we moved the bench at the foot of the bed. The room sported an incredibly noisy HVAC unit, which sounded like a passing train on high. The blinds did not really keep out the sunlight, which made for early mornings. Housekeeping forgot to refresh the room one day. Features on the television (like the built in Chromecast) didn't all work. Half the jets didn't work on the jacuzzi. Small details -- they didn't make the stay unpleasant, just not what it could have been.
