"first visit to Quebec City"
Wonderful stay at the Chateau de Frontenac Hotel during our first visit to Quebec City. The hotel staff were so accommodating and helpful, the room was excellent, the breakfast buffet at the Place Dufferin was second to none. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend staying here to all of our friends.
"Just lovely ... almost perfect "
We enjoyed three nights here on our family March break holiday. Overall, we were quite impressed with the hotel and would happily return. It goes without saying that this hotel is gorgeous. What impressed us is that the staff all seemed to take pride in their beautiful hotel and were happy to share it with us. While we were not able to be upgraded due to the capacity of the hotel, the desk staff did their best to give us a room that was slightly larger with a great view. The location can’t be beat as one can simply walk out the doors and start exploring. We found all staff to be helpful and friendly, beginning with the greeting from the doormen. The concierge team was extremely helpful in providing dining suggestions and reservations each night. Housekeeping staff were always friendly and our room was impeccably made up every day, with turndown service in the evening. We loved the ambience of the lobby bar and found staff here equally attentive and friendly. Even the valet staff were kind enough to provide us with directions and bottled water before we embarked on our journeys. These are the little touches that bring us back to Fairmont hotels time and again. We loved Quebec City and will most definitely return, and the Château Frontenac will once again be our hotel of choice.
We stayed at the Frontenac for three nights and had a wonderful stay. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location is great and we were able to walk everywhere in Old Quebec. The hotel is an amazing building to view. We walked around the lower level and looked at the photos and memorabilia from yesteryear.
My wife, my little girl and I recently stayed at the Château for 5 days to attend a wedding and visit family. Being lazy I will only get out of my way to write reviews for a hotel when the experience there is either mediocre or outstanding. The Château Frontenac clearly falls in the latter category. One can expect a lot to happen during that long a period -- special needs, unexpacted events or little annoyances -- and each and every time the hotel was able to accommodate our requests and remedy minor problems to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Whether it was the style and comfort of the (newly renovated) room, the restaurants, the food, the bar, the pool, the babysitting services, room services, dry cleaning, a heater being fixed in a matter of minutes, the concierge shining our shoes... everything was from a level expected from a high-end hotel. Something once could have turned out to be an issue but it was rapidly taken care of and it surpassed our expectations. And special mention for having even offered, preemptively, to remedy a situation that "could" have been problematic. Don't be fooled by the size of the hotel. Big hotels can lack intimacy and personality but that is not the case with the Château. Granted it was partly due to all that cold and grey outside but it was always and everywhere gorgeous, cozy, warm and welcoming. Last but not least I'd like to point out the professionalism and, more importantly, the kindness of each and everyone from the personnel we encountered and dealt with. We also stayed 5 days at its sister hotel, the Reine Elizabeth, during that trip. It was our fourth stay at a Fairmont property and I must come to the conclusion that it is now, clearly, a world-class brand. One where we will definitely return.
"A five star hotel with limited services?"
My wife and I were concluding our Quebec City getaway at the Chateau Frontenac. We had been before and this was not our first time, however the amenities that they should have for a five star were broken and not working. For example my wife enjoyed the steam room in the woman's locker room of the gym during our last visit. This time we were told it had been broken for at least a week if not two. Then on the morning of check out we wanted to take a quick soak in the hottub. Well that was broken too. Now trust me I get things break but the steam room is down for at least a week or more and now the hottub is broken as well. Given the prices we pay for our rooms I would expect better and quicker responses to the issues (I saw no one working on the hottub and the woman working the towel desk had no idea when it would be working again). So unforunately during our stay we couldn't use two of the main amenities the hotel offers. Prior to our stay here we were at a small boutique hotel and everything was in working order there. While the Chateau Frontenac offers splendid views of Quebec City and the river it is extremely disappointing when things are not working correctly or are broken. It is the small things that keep a five star rating and the Chateau seems to be slipping.
