"Historical gem of a hotel--- elegance of a bygone era . Grand."
Fairmont standards and service make this grand hotel an even more special experience. Lovely room with well appointed decor and very comfortable beds. Staff was very accomodating, and couldn't be friendlier. Hotel tour was informative and interesting... a must!
This is supposedly the world's more photographed hotel...I can believe that. Its Quebec City's gorgeous landmark. The hotel's majestic architecture looks like something out of a classic Disney movie, and more mesmerizing than several of the European castles I've seen. Words can't describe it, checkout the photos. I didn't splurge on the $300+/night rooms, but I took the wife for some midday cocktails in one of the elegant hotel bars. The handsome old world interior takes you back in time into the late 1800s. There's some touristy shops inside and outside, including a Starbucks for you addicts. Swing by and have a drink!
"Haven't stayed yet but already experiencing a lack of service"
We're scheduled to stay at the Fairmont in April 2018. We need connecting rooms and so we called both the reservation number and the hotel directly and found out which room types have the option for connecting rooms. We booked the rooms on fairmont.com, as the rate was a little less than the reservation number person could offer. We then called the hotel again to request the connecting rooms. A few days later we got a call back and the person told us that the room type we booked does not in fact have connecting rooms as an option. We would need to pick a higher rate room type (about another $30 CAD per night per room) AND pay $50 CAD per night (not sure if this was per room or total) for the option of connecting rooms. There is nothing on the website nor did anyone mention this charge, even when discussing rates and booking the rooms with the reservation number person. We booked non-refundable rooms on the website and, to their credit, the person calling from the hotel did ask if we wanted to cancel the reservations (although they didn't mention whether we would be refunded for the one night we have already paid for each room). We asked instead if we paid the room upgrade charge (again, we booked what we were told to book) could they waive the connecting room charge. The person said he would need to check with a manager and would get back with us. A week later, we haven't heard anything. So, we've heard of the excellent service provided by the Fairmont, but so far we are not receiving this service. We want to stay at the property as it is so central to Quebec City, but not looking forward to it if this is how we'll be treated.
"Old World Luxury"
What an outstanding experience we had at the Chateau Frontenac. Old world charm and luxury abounds everywhere you look. A real treat to spend a few days being served and pampered. Our friends agree that we are making it an annual trip.
"We can't wait to return"
We pulled up to the Fairmont Chateau Frontenac and the valet greeted us and helped with our luggage. We enjoyed a nice chat and an easy check in. Our room was ready with one small exception. The foam pillows I requested weren't in the room yet but he was sending someone to deliver them right away. Room 6128 was on the 6th floor and offered a king bed, a bigger bathroom than at the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu but it also had a noisy air system. A few minutes after we arrived a staff member knocked on the door with our foam pillows. Perfect! We explored the pool area then on to the lobby, stores, bars, and restaurants. The hotel is stunning and maintained to the highest degree. During our stay we dined at the hotel a couple of times. We enjoyed cocktails at 1608. The atmosphere was very nice and the drinks were wonderfully crafted. The downside was that table service seemed to be much slower than the service at the bar. Lunch at Bistro Sam was enjoyable. We had a lovely table with a view outside and a very warm server. We ordered duck wings and salmon tartar for starters. For entrees my husband ordered the "Big Sam" which was enormous! I ordered the fish and chips. All of the dishes were very good. We did use room service for breakfast and there was a small mix up in regard to their process but the staff member called us apologizing and assured us it wouldn't be too long. We received the healthy breakfast and the Japanese inspired breakfast. These were the perfect way to start our day. The one disappointment in our stay was in dealing with the concierge. We walked up to the desk and after exchanging pleasantries we inquired if Champlain restaurant would be open. The response we were given was a simple and inelegant no. It wasn't until we walked away that we were asked if there was anything else she could do. It would have been much more pleasant and rewarding on behalf of the hotel if she offered us help with their other restaurant or even offering to help us find a restaurant elsewhere. This experience caused a loss of money from us to the hotel. In the end we can't wait to return to Quebec and the Fairmont.
