"Two star service"
Received very poor service from the start with the check in and it really just felt if you were not spending $1000/night on a room, you did not count. Beautiful hotel and location is very good. I just felt there are a lot of choices and that others would maybe appreciate the business more then Fairmount did. I believe they have no shortage of people wanting to stay and until people stop, because of the rude service they will not change their protocol.
"Magical and Worth the Spurge!"
I stayed at the hotel for two nights and was absolutely blown away. It is beautiful, historic and absolutely worth the splurge! The location is breathtaking and all of Old Quebec is walkable from the hotel. The staff is truly spectacular - they are knowledgeable, friendly and make the experience even more special. The room service menu is excellent (I highly recommend the charcuterie) and there is a wine and cheese bar in the hotel too. The room I had was very modern and renovated and the WiFi was excellent (and free!) The toiletries are all very high - end and there is in - room tea and coffee. The gym is quite small but has everything you need. There is also an indoor pool. Truly a spectacular hotel and I hope to return soon. I cannot recommend it highly enough!
This must be one of the top hotels in the world in terms of heritage and history at the very least. We had a comfortable room overlooking the waterfront. The room was quite a way from Reception, but then this is one big hotel. next time i would request something a bit closer. The cruise liner Queen Mary was in dock - we understood she is a frequent visitor as she steams up and down from New York to Halifax and back. Whether it is from Queen Mary i do not know but the hotel lobby seemed full all day of visitors [not staying in the hotel]. So full that one was fighting through the throng at times to get to the restaurant. As a heritage building I would think there is little the hotel can do. But how nice it would be if selfie sticks and backpacks could be banned? Whatsoever - a great hotel.
Great location. Excellent Gold floor accommodations. The concierges were all pleasant, accommodating, professional and extremely helpful. The bartenders at the 1608 Bar are exceptional. The hotel and all common areas are impeccably maintained. Well worth a 3-4 day stay.
"Beautiful Hotel Inside and Outside"
Where do I begin? First off, the hotel itself is just architecturally beautiful, both inside and outside. It is said to be the most photographed hotel in the world and I can see why. When you arrive, there are doormen there to great you, open doors and help you with your luggage. When you enter the lobby of this hotel it always has this wonderful smell. We were there 6 days and every time we entered the lobby we were welcomed by this wonderful scent. Checking in was easy and fast probably because we arrived at night around 8 pm. There were a few days when we would come down to the lobby and it was packed with people checking in. We had room 6075 and it was great! It faced the little park next to the hotel and we had an angled view of the St. Lawrence River also. The room was large, very clean and appointed with everything you would expect. There was dresser space and a bench with two drawer’s underneath, plus the closet with hangers and a fluffy white bath robe. The bathroom had just enough counter space and the rain shower was awesome. I bring my own soaps and shampoos but the lotion the hotel provided had an amazing scent and was not greasy. We always had plenty of hot water too! The room had two phones in the room. One on the desk and the other on the nightstand between the beds. One of the phones did not work and they fixed it first thing the next day. Not a big deal since we had cell phones and the other room phone. There were also 2 full length mirrors in our room. That is usually my biggest complaint and to my surprise there were 2!! Thank you! The room safe was large and easy to operate. Our room was very close to the ice machine which is great. The entire time we were in our room and even at night we never heard anyone in the halls or any doors slam. I never heard any of our “ neighbors†talking or their toilets flush. There were plenty of people on our floor so I guess they did an excellent job of insulating the rooms. There was an outlet in the bathroom, one by the desk and two built into the night stand. I am a photo freak, so if you have batteries, phones, computers and Go Pros to charge I suggest bringing a mini outlet strip to plug in all your electronics. I only have 2 draw backs of the room. First, there is not enough lighting in the rooms at night and second, the mini fridge is so packed that you can’t put anything of your own in it. That’s it! This place is nearly perfect! The hotel was beautiful and everything was immaculately clean. Even the public bathrooms throughout the hotel were spotless. Every morning we ate breakfast at the Place Dufferin. It is a large buffet with an omelet station. There was everything from fresh fruit, oatmeal, pastries, bacon, and even baked beans! Nothing was missing from this buffet. The Wine & Cheese bar was also a great place to get a cocktail after dinner or a night out. We had dinner at the Champlain Restaurant and it was excellent. Even though it was a large hotel we never waited for an elevator. It always came very quickly and was hardly ever packed. Location, location, location. I loved that this hotel is within walking distance to everything. Even things on the map that look very far away, like the Observatory, were only a 15-minute walk from this hotel. The Funicular and break neck stairs are literally right outside the hotel along with street performers who are very entertaining and the Fortifications-de- Quebec and Forts- et-Chateaux St. Louis. The city is very safe. I did a lot of exploring on my own in the early mornings and always felt safe. We had to take a taxi two times. The first time we walked out of the hotel and the door man got us into a taxi right away. The next time it took quite a bit longer. Apparently, there were 2 or 3 cruise ships in port and the taxis were very busy. My suggestion is if you need to be somewhere at a certain time you should call ahead to the concierge and have arrangements in advanced. I would stay here again! It is smack dab in the middle of all kinds of restaurants, shopping and historical sites. Plus it’s easy to find since it is the tallest building around. We really enjoyed our stay here at the La Chateau Frontenac.
