"Friendly, clean and comfortable"
We chose the Chateau Laurier on the recommendation of family. It is located nearby the old town, about an 8 minute walk to the gates of the wall. I was greeted warmly at check in by Kim. I had booked the classic Queen room for our 2 night stay. She asked if I was interested in upgrading to a King room in a newer section of the hotel for a little extra money. I asked if I could check out our original room first, them decide, She said certainly. After getting parked in the underground garage, my wife and I went up to our room, opened the door to the Classic Queen room and immediately decided that the room was a little too "cozy". We returned to the front desk and upgraded to the King room in the Plains of Abraham wing. The room was 2 or 3 times larger along with a much more spacious bath. Worth every penny for the space, brightness and decor. Staff were all helpful and friendly. We were tired one evening so it was convenient that St Hubert was locate in the hotel. Another night we ate at Savini across the road...highly recommend it, plus they offer 15% discount with card provided by the hotel. We would definitely return to Chateau Laurier.
"Got a bait and switch room. Room # 1 : broken lamp, broken T.V. broken fridge. Double room got upgraded for 20.00 a day"
Do not under any circumstance book into this hotel. It is a construction site with no view of The Plains of Abraham as advertised. They charged 20.00 more per day to move us to a decent sized room with courtyard view. Concierge was outstanding. He recommended great tours and fine food establishments. Nothing else is redeeming in this building. DO NOT GO THERE!
Excellent location, within easy walking distance of the old town Quebec, many shops & restaurants & other attractions. Lovely open & spacious foyer complete with real coffee vending machine & also a wine one! Bedrooms not large but perfectly adequate size & more European influence than US/Canadian where we are all used to more ample accommodation! Everything neat & tidy & as expected all you need is supplied in bathroom. Shampoos & soap in dispensers as opposed to usual individual bottles. Coffee maker along with supply of coffee & also teabags... but no kettle? I suppose you can heat water for tea in the coffee maker! Not a great outlook from my room only bushes & trees right up to the window, hope they don't scratch the window while we're sleeping!! I guess you can pay for better views but we didn't intend to be (& weren't) 'at home' much! Fancy bedside clock which seemed to double as a radio but didn't take the time to use it as by the time we got back at night it was time to sleep! Bed crisp, spotless & lovely! Breakfast, again perfectly adequate with enough to satisfy all but the most picky eater, but at the same time, just the usual hotel fare, nothing different. The diningroom was very busy, may have been holiday weekend, but they should be a little better organised! The staff seemed under pressure but who knows... maybe a few other staff had called in sick? These things happen! Lots of renovations going on at the front of hotel but that can't be helped & will obviously improve. Yes, I'd stay there again!
"Older style hotel within easy walking distance of old Quebec"
My wife and I stayed here for two nights visiting Quebec. It is well situated within easy walking distance of the old city and backing the Plains of Abraham. The room was quite small and located in a maze of corridors with only a view of an opposite wall. However it was clean. There is a decent salt water indoor pool and two outside large jacuzzis. There is an option to use valet parking but we self parked in the adjacent underground parking lot at C$ 20 plus tax. Hotels within the city walls are mostly small B&B style establishments, so this is as good an option.
We had an enjoyable stay here. It was well located within a short walk of the old part of the city. Staff were helpful and accomodating. We did not breakfast at the hotel so am unable to comment on that.
