It is hard for me to review the hotel without mentioning what a wonderful place Quebec is to visit. I met a girlfriend from Seattle that I had not seen in a few years. We have each traveled quite a bit in Europe and looked forward to feeling like we were in Europe without having to travel that far. We stayed in the newer part of the hotel and were very please with our room. We had two queen sized beds and the room size was just fine. Great location! Wear good walking shoes and enjoy all of the exercise you will get if you walk stairs. I ate tons and didn't gain a pound :) The bathroom was large enough for our "stuff", with enough counter space. It always annoys me when there is a tiny little counter in bathrooms. Our housekeeping service a great every day. There was construction across the street but we were up early (7-8 am) to explore so any noise wasn't a problem for us. The room was very clean. Every single person on the staff was very helpful, I have to give a special shoutout to the two concierges that we worked with (Michel and Marie?)They were so charming and helpful and gave us recommendations and made the reservations) for all of our breakfasts and dinners. The food at every one was absolutely stellar! What a delightful trip!
We stayed here for a nearby festival and the location was perfect, the front desk attendants were extremely kind and helpful (it was our first trip to a primarily French-speaking part of Canada and none of us spoke the language) and the accommodations were perfectly reasonable for the price. We'd definitely return!
As noted by others, this hotel is not quite as pictured. The location and staff were great. Our room, for two nights, was, unfortunately, a disappointment. Very small for two people and not very updated. The wifi did not work at all in the part of the hotel our room was in. When I called to perhaps change rooms, were offered a room described as "not as nice" since the hotel was filled. I research before I travel, and I have once again learned that photos can be misleading.
"Our stay at Hotel Chateau Laurier on September 7, 8 and 9, 2017"
My husband and I enjoyed our spacious room with a king-size bed, overlooking the court yard. Our room was on the second floor, which was handy, as the elevator brought us to the first floor right near the St. Hubert Restaurant and the convenience store. We enjoyed a buffet breakfast at the St. Hubert Restaurant each morning. We could also access Grand Allee street very easily. The only downside to our visit, was that on Saturday, September 9, there was a wedding held in the first floor reception hall, and the music was blasting from 8 pm (when we returned to our room) until 2 or 3 in the morning. Even with foam ear plugs, we could not get much sleep, as the music was so loud and made the floor, bed, and us vibrate! We called down to complain to the desk attendant at about 10:30 pm, about the noise; he said that the music volume would be lowered at 11 pm, but the music volume was not lowered. On our return to Montreal, my husband called the hotel to complain about the loud music on September 9. The hotel clerk offered him a $100 discount for the price of the room on the 9th. My husband accepted this discount, but asked to be informed next time he books a room at the Hotel Chateau Laurier, about loud events that will take place during our stay. Overall, our stay at Hotel Chateau Laurier was a positive one, and we will gladly stay at this hotel again. However, my husband and I will ask about events at the hotel during our stay. We hope that the staff will be honest and forthcoming about these events and how they could impact on our enjoyment and comfort at the hotel. We hope to book a comfortable and quiet room, when we visit the hotel again. Vivian Squire and Barry Nadel
"Not what you expect"
This hotel is in a good location, just at the edge of Oldtown Quebec and there are good restaurants nearby. However you should not be misled by the 4 star rating or the name 'Chateau' . The rooms are quite small and old. Yes they are clean and do have a safe and a TV - but the bathroom and bedroom are definitely not 4 star ....... - maybe 3 star is a fair rating.
