The facilities are a bit dated, but the location was perfect. Just a quick walk from old quebec. The service was good and the bedrooms clean. We had a good time in the sauna and pool. This hotel is good for a quick stay and is family friendly.
"Excellent Value in Quebec City"
Clean, comfortable rooms, combined with superior service and excellent location make this hotel a great value. The on-site St Hubert's is an added bonus. It has nearly all the amenities of the grander hotels but at about one third of the cost. About the only negative I can come up with is that the hot tub is nothing to brag about.
"Dirty floor "
I am surprised the flood is not vacuumed at all. Isn’t this a norm for hotels? The chambermaid did not greet nor smile back at me. It is a surprise to me as I had been to many many hotels all my life and I would say ALL chambermaids would greet or at least smile back. We called for bedroom slippers and they said they have none. So am I expected to wear my snow boots to sleep? The floor feels filthy. There is much room for improvement for this hotel.
"Overrated But Good Location"
Stayed here 5 nights over Christmas. 2 of the nights our room was not cleaned and on another night we were shorted towels. The day we arrived there was a snow storm and trying to get our suitcases through the entrance with the wind and blowing snow would have been easier if the valet would have helped. Instead, he and the Concierge were too busy chatting to each other. Bar staff were sour faced; placed our drinks on the bar and turned away before we could say, “Merci†and it wasn’t busy, 5 of us in the entire place on a Wednesday afternoon. He was more interested in talking to his coworker and we felt like it was a bother for him to have us there. On another occasion a young lady was our server but never smiled and barely acknowledged us. We stayed on the fifth floor and there are only 2 lifts, which take a long time. We ended up taking the stairs most days even though I have a bad knee. Service personnel also use the same lifts, probably adding to the slowness. Our hotel in Montréal had 20+ floors with only 2 lifts and we never had to wait long. We stayed in room 533, one of the remodelled rooms. There is no carpet, so bring slippers. It’s great though because there’s a shoe tray to put your wet boots in. There were 2 complimentary robes which was great for going to the pool area. The pool, sauna and jacuzzi are all fab. Pool is said to be salt water but isn’t really. Sauna doesn’t open until 10am though, no way around it as it’s on a time lock and you’ll need your room key to access as it’s upstairs from the pool. We enjoyed a quick Christmas morning hot tub party but wished it had opened earlier because we had brunch reservations at 11. Our bathroom was nicely done and the shower was perfect. You didn’t need to wait long for hot water, either. Room had a tea kettle, coffee maker, iron/ironing board, hair dryer, luggage rack, ice bucket and one very small dresser. The closet had plenty of hangers and there was also an extra blanket but we didn’t need it as the room stayed quite warm. On 2 separate occasions there were 4am power cuts, causing the smoke detector to chirp incessantly until the backup generator kicked in. Unfortunately the last one happened as we were waking up for 5am to get ready for our journey back home and with the chirping smoke detector, we lost an hour of sleep. We did not book directly through the hotel, but through a Trip Advisor sight link. Shortly after we checked in, we were leaving our room only to find a notice on the door basically saying, “You should have booked with us, we give you perks.†Which is fine, but you can tell us that at check in instead of hanging a sign on our door to tell the rest of the guests we’re cheap. The hotel touts some kind of special reward for you being eco-friendly and reusing your towels and not having fresh sheets, but since our room wasn’t serviced 2 out of 5 nights, I guess even that doesn’t qualify you. After the second time we complained to the manager on duty who was quite blasé about it - until I showed her pictures. Then she said because we didn’t book direct through them, there was nothing she could to in the way of recompense. I’m sorry, but for what we paid per night we expect our room to be clean and have fresh towels. Eventually we were given 50 dollars Canadian credit off the bill. Whoopee. The lobby area is lovely and there are 3 self-serve pay as you go wine dispensers. Purchase a card at reception and also get your wine glasses from them.
Having done Vieux Quebec at the Fairmont Frontenac this hotel was a bit of a come down as any other hotel would be. However, our only complaint was the front desk - very disorganized and somewhat rude. Otherwise once in, the rooms were spacious and clean. Temps were record breaking cold outside but room was warm and cozy. Many great restaurants in the area and parliament nearby, the location was fantastic. We’ll be back.
