"Wonderful hotel close to all the action!"
My husband and I stayed at the Chateau Laurier while attending a conference in Quebec City in early May. I had never been to Quebec City before and wanted something within walking distance close to the Plains of Abraham and the old walled city. This hotel was perfect! The rooms were spacious, the staff super friendly (the concierge Michel was especially helpful in choosing restaurants in the area) and we were very satisfied with our stay here. This is a character hotel and less sterile than what you would experience at the bigger chain hotels in the area. Although, there was construction occurring across the street, at no time was it a problem with noise. Coming here I was concerned with not being able to speak much French but that was never an issue as any hospitality staff that we encountered broke immediately into English when they found out we were non-French speaking. Overall, a very pleasurable stay in the area even though the weather was a bit cool. However, I think this would generally be a good month to come here as I think the summer months would be very busy.
"Gem along Grand Allee in Quebec City - fantastic location"
We booked one night at this property due to close location to Grand Allee (street with all the bars and restaurants) and easy walk into Old Quebec and all the sites near the citadel and plains of abraham. It is a beautiful hotel, very large with various wings. Our room was well appointed King bed, huge windows with lots of light and they opened up some, not all the way but enough for natural air. Bathroom was very nice marble and tile with huge shower. Staff were very friendly and helpful with lots of helpful hints, maps and tourist books. Paid for valet parking to make things easy and painless. Amazing thing in the hotel lobby and on a few floors - a vending machine that sold wine!! Very cool. You bought a pre paid card, you put the card in the vending machine, you selected kind of wine and size of glass and voila - wine. We walked into Old Quebec, the Parliament/Legislature buildings, the citadel, Plains of Abraham, along the promenade near Petit Champlain. It is a fantastic location and staff are wonderful! Cant wait to come back.
"Great Spot for the Winter Spectacle"
Ground zero for the amazingly brutal cold winter sports and spectacle here in Quebec City! THe horse races are just outside so you can watch them while not freezing your body parts off. We were lucky enough to witness the parade after having come from the pool area so we were warm. Again, this is a brutally cold area so warmth is needed. This hotel is great for teens and kids as there is great wifi connections, easy accommodations and good restaurant in hotel.
"Location/location/location/Walking/walking/Walking/Safe...even@6:00 am 😄😄😄😄exceptional"
Wonderful surprise! The location was absolutely magnificent! Walking distance to everything! Took the City Tour Bus, (photo enclosed), the one with the frequent stops, to get the lay of the land! Safety was a major factor since I walk @6:00 am.. Wow!! met many tourists and locals walking early.. Warning..Please be aware that Starbuck's did not open until 7:00 am! Great people, helpful with English! Great desserts! Love taking photos...great fun! As a Psycholgy Lecturer, loved the history, tours, etc. Note: if you are curious and want to explore this is for you....
"" Barrier free room"… Not quite but Excellent HotelLocation"
We required a handicap accessible room. They were one of the few hotels that had a "roll in/walk in shower". The overall design and layout of the room was good with sufficient manoeuvring space and turn radius. The bathroom design was also well thought out with the exception of the shower. The shower bench was quite low to the floor and permanently fixed to the wall, non-adjustable. The entrance to the shower was narrow. If you were a wheelchair user who transferred sideways onto the shower bench it would not be possible because of a wall on one side and a glass partition on the other. The bed is low to the floor making transfers difficult. There are some rooms with excellent views but not so for "barrier free" rooms. The hotel is in excellent location. It is walking distance from the old city and many interesting attractions. The front desk staff are friendly, professional and very knowledgeable.
