"Lovely stay, excellent food but a couple of (small) niggles"

We stayed here for a couple of nights during our tour of Ontario and Quebec. We had a lovely stay but there were a couple of small niggles. Firstly we arrived and our room was not available so we had to wait for a little while. The main hall had comfy sofas and a roaring fire. Although it was a little gloomy outside it wasn't cold! We had to wait about 30mins for the room to be ready. It was a pleasant enough room (on the ground floor) with a small balcony overlooking the lake. The bathroom was also small but adequate. However, on the second day the pole holding the shower curtain came down (fortunately just as I was finishing my shower). We mentioned it to the front desk who fixed it whilst we were out. We used the spa facilities as we had one days access as part of the package. It was a little drizzly the day we went so were expecting it to be very busy (assuming people might not want to be doing outside ventures) but it wasn't busy. There was plenty of space and different areas to use. Also as part of our package we booked breakfast and dinner. (NOTE: you are advised to book the time you want to go to the restaurant for your evening meal in advance). Dinner was a four-course meal with excellent food choices on both evenings. The breakfasts were quite noisy as there was no seating times as for dinner, however you do get seated so don't need to worry about finding a table. There was a lot of variety of foods on offer. We also ate lunch in the bar on one day. My husband had a smoked salmon bagel and I the French Onion soup. Both were very tasty. We also booked on the Beavers and Bears trip which was a highlight as we saw a total of 6 bears including a mother and her 3 cubs. On the downside we only saw one beaver! Finally when we went to check out we did find we had been overcharged with someone else's meal bill added to our final bill. This was sorted out before we left (different name & signature!) but shouldn't really happen.

"Stunning sunsets over the Lake"

We only stayed for one night but we really enjoyed our time here. We had a lake view room and the autumn sunset over the lake was absolutely stunning. Our room had a quaint country cabin feel and was comfortable though relative simple. There was no TV but wifi worked well so we could stream Netflix on our iPad. We ate dinner in the restaurant and we were quite impressed. Breakfast was good with the usual fare. Unfortunately we left first thing after breakfast so we were unable to utilise the free canoes or even take a walk around the lake - though I'm sure they would have been wonderful. The hotel is definitely a nice place to get away from it all and chill out.

"Good experience despite below average rooms"

We’re back from a one night stay at hotel Sacacomie and are mitigated about our stay. We did get that this is an hotel designed for the rustic experience, but for the price, we were kind of expecting a lot more for the room (see explanation lower). The hotel and grounds are unique. The hotel has a special location on a hillside and is designed in a way that you can enjoy the breathtaking view while attending the spa, enjoying a drink at the bar, terrace or enjoying one of their mouth watering meals at the restaurant. The lobby is impressive with the big fireplace right at the entrance. It smells so good! There are also a lot of mounted animals on the walls which is kind of interesting because you don’t get to see a lot of those when you live in the city. We would have appreciated that the animals were identified though. The room was our big disappointment. When we booked the room, we asked for the standard room, one king size bed and the lake view (which is more expensive than the forest view). On the internet site of the hotel, the image of the room was a two double bed room with a sliding door where you can access a balcony. The room we got was in the main building, and the definition of lake view was very stretched, as we got a small room not much bigger than a pantry, with one double bed and a small window that have more of a roof view than a lake view. The bed has a memory mattress that not only took the form of your body, but the one of everybody that had slept in it before you. Moreover, we were right on top of the restaurant so we heard the music and people talking which is very annoying when you’re trying to sleep. The only thing positive about it is that, at least, it was clean. This should have been an economic room, not a standard room. Small notice to people who got allergies to dust and Acaries, there are carpets all-over the hotel floors, even in the rooms, my allergies kicked up in the middle of the night so make sure to bring Claritins just in case. Very important, make sure you bring a tablet of something to pass time in case of rain because there are no tvs in the room, but there is wifi. No air conditioning either so with the small window that we got, we were lucky that the weather wasn’t so hot. The food at the restaurant was great, and personnel was very courteous (well, excepted the lady at the spa who was more acting like she wanted to be left alone than actually answering our questions). All in all, beautiful hotel, great food and drinks, but the room (standard) are small and very expensive for what you get (we slept in 3 stars motel that were more luxurious and comfortable than that). So will we come back? We would, but not at the price we paid (which was a total rip-off), and that’s a shame because the rest of the hotel would worth it.

"Fantastic place, fantastic stay"

St Alexis des Monts and Hotel Sacacomie was our second stop in our recent trip to Canada. Driving there from Montreal we had high expectations by seeing the pictures and reading the reviews of this scenic place. I must say we were not disappointed. We were greeted by a massive fireplace slowly burning in the background and even though the weather was very mild for September it was a very nice sight. We had booked 3 nights half board in a forest view room. The room was very nice and clean and the cabin log feel made it even more special. But enough about the room ... Moving to the outside deck overlooking the lake was what took our breath away. The view was simply stunning. In fact stunning might not just cut it. There were trees everywhere reaching all the way down to a crystal blue lake. The Autumn effect on the trees made them even more picturesque with a plethora of colors that you just have to see to appreciate fully. As part of our booking, we had breakfast and dinner included. Breakfast was a buffet which included a great variety of cooked and cold options. An egg station was also available for custom made omelettes and/or eggs cooked to our liking. Dinner as breakfast were served at the dining room overlooking the lake. For dinner we were presented with a four course meal (again part of our booking). The portions were very good and the food in general was amazing. In fact most nights we had to share one desert as we were too full to eat two but wanted to try them anyway. Another great thing about Hotel Sacacomie was the activities on offer. We booked 3: the Bears and Beavers tour, the buggy ride and the woodsman hiking. All 3 were very good and the guides were very pleasant and knowledgeable. Seeing bears and beavers up close and personal was a very nice experience indeed. Apart from the paid activities there are lots of hiking trails and kayaks that can be used for free. All in all our stay in Hotel Sacacomie was fantastic. So much so that my partner is looking forward to going back. I would highly recommend booking food along with your stay as the restaurant there will not disappoint.

"Not a great visit."

The room had a great view, but best not use the balcony it was held together with a piece of 2x4 wood nailed across the rail and miscellaneous patches of plywood on the decking covering holes. I had fish for lunch and it must have been bad because i was sick for hours until it cleared my system. When we checked out and paid the bill we thought that would be the end, but then discovered that they had hit us with another bill for several hundred $ after we left. I called them for an explanation and was told that we simply owed them more. Asked for the bill to be sent - they have still not sent it a week later.
