Over Buffalo Mountain Lodge

Excellent location and venue. Friendly, helpful staff. Loved the room I stayed in. Food for our meetings was great. The only concern was that the speaker system for our meeting was not working properly.
"Everything OK--Except Lack of Hot Water and Noise"
Overall the actual room was pleasant enough. The wood burning fireplaces are a nice touch, and was one of the main reasons this hotel was chosen. Well done on that. Stayed in a Buffalo Open Studio Room. The small kitchenette was well equipped. We were on the main floor, and there was a room above us (we were in 403). They weren't loud, it was just that EVERYTHING could be heard...it was constant loud creaking and murmuring voices from the two days we were there. At night it was the same. Every time they moved around upstairs, or rolled over in bed, the floor creaked. I see why they provided ear plugs beside the bed....although only one set, and not two (luckily I had brought my own). Even with the ear plugs, you could hear the constant creaking...so not a very restful sleep. If you listened carefully you could hear the neighbors talk as well, So definitely some construction and sound proofing issues. The hot tub was nice, but the showers in the men's change room didn't have any hot water (my girlfriend said the women's showers worked fine). I let it run for several minutes, but the water stayed freezing cold (and yes, I tried turning it the other way, and tried the other stall). This problem wasn't isolated. Our room had a beautiful claw foot tub that the girlfriend was looking forward to using. Again, very little hot water (it filled about 1/4 of the tub). So again, a very luke-warm bath you can only sit in for 5 minutes wasn't all that enjoyable. Possibly the water issue was temporary. So won't fault a place for that, although it did make the stay less enjoyable. Hopefully, the 'loudness" issues are isolated to that one room/building, and the other rooms were quieter. On that, I can't comment. I stay in Banff and Canmore a lot, as it is a nice getaway from Calgary. This place is fine...if they fixed the noise and hot water issues. I really like the atmosphere and wood burning fireplaces. But as it is now, I wouldn't stay here again. There are places in Banff I like much more at this price point.
"Buffalo Mountain Lodge Banff"
We stayed at the lodge with many other wedding guests for my son's wedding and we all loved it. In every respect it was a perfect place to stay in Banff, lovely homey well serviced rooms with open fires and cooking facilities, relaxed lounge with open fire and great restaurant with variable priced and affordable menu. All the staff were so friendly and helpful including advising and booking tours and advising on transport including the lodge's free shuttle service. We are all talking about going back for a reunion next year we loved it so much!!
I was first a guest at Buffalo Mountain Lodge about 10 years ago and fell in love. I have returned many times since. I am always beckoned by the wooden log design, the wood burning fire places in the rooms, the slate floors, the clawfoot tubs, and the overall charm and ambiance of feeling like you are in a secluded chalet. I also love the "campfire" smell in the air. My husband, son, and I stayed for four nights in December and this was the first time that I have been disappointed and let down by my stay. I found the room not very clean, getting tired overall, and generally poorly maintained. For the money that we paid I am certain that we can get better value, albeit a different experience, at another establishment. We ordered in room dining three times and dined in the lodge's restaurant once. I highly recommend the breakfast menu for variety, quality of food, and presentation - it was all fantastic! I found the dinner menu to be average. I want to love this property again, but I don't anticipate that I will return soon. It is still somewhere that I know most people will enjoy, however, for a regular returning guest like me it's hard not to notice the changes.
"I'll keep coming back."
Comfortable, quiet, and homey. Could have minor improvements but all in all we really enjoy the time we've spent here. Looking forward to our next visit to Banff and to the Buffalo Mountain Lodge. Thank you!
