Over Buffalo Mountain Lodge

"Excellent......warm and cosy – the perfect combination!"
We arrived at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge late afternoon and were met by a huge Elk just around the corner, followed by a very genuine welcome at the reception check in. The reception area and restaurant are absolutely stunning, and very befitting of this part of Canada. There was a burning fire in the bar area, with a gorgeous array of feature roof beams (This is my professional background so I have a keen interest in timber frame buildings!) As this was the final stay of our honeymoon, we had booked into a premium room, and were not disappointed! The bathroom, with its gentle underfloor heating was very rustic and spacious, and housed a lovely independent bath with a separate shower. The bedroom area was great too, with a beautiful log burning fire and 2 comfortable chairs....just a shame we weren’t in the room long enough to light the fire. The coffee machine took some working out though and there was only powdered milk, and the view from the room was only out onto the Tunnel Mountain road (which wasn’t busy or noisy) but all in all the room was gorgeous and very quiet. During our stay we enjoyed a stunning evening meal in the restaurant, which, although a little pricey (although it was still in line with the cost of nearly all the hotel restaurants we ate at) has a very interesting menu, with a range of food that would be nearly impossible to source back home in England. We enjoyed the Charcuterie Board for the starter, which was full of lovely sliced meats, salamis and olives. I followed this with Northern Caribou and my husband had the Game Ranch Duo. We paired this with an excellent local beer, and as a result of this the waiter kindly gave us a few tips of where to visit in Banff the following day to find more beer (which we did, and would certainly recommend the Banff brewery and the bowling alley downstairs....awesome!!!) We also enjoyed 3 breakfasts at the hotel. Despite there being 2 weddings on towards the end of our stay, the restaurant still seemed to be coping with the extra number of guests. Even though they were busy, the staff were attentive and kept us posted on the progress of our food, which was always really tasty. We were lucky enough to get in the hot tub one of the evenings, where we were joined by guests from both wedding parties. The hot tub is a great size as there were about 12 of us in it and there was no awkward accidental foot touching! It was very hot though (even by hot tub standards) so we had to keep on getting out, but we had an enjoyable hour in there with the locals! I hope to be lucky enough to return to Banff one day, and if I do I will be sure to book here again!
"Beautiful Weekend Getaway"
LOVED this hotel! The room was gorgeous, rustic and had a wood burning fireplace and a private little balcony. We had a roaring fire in the fireplace all evening and staff make sure to keep all the wood piles stocked outside every room. We found the staff very friendly, attentive, and couldn't do enough for you. We ate the hotel restaurant for breakfast and had delicious Eggs Benedict. I would definitely recommend this hotel and plan to return hopefully in the near future!
Beautiful room with vaulted beamed ceilings. Lovely fireplace. Hot tub setting is great. You can walk to Tunnel Mountain. Few minute drive to downtown Banff. Deer are usually walking around the resort but not this visit. Would highly recommend this hotel.
"Splendid room, peaceful setting"
We've stayed at CRMR establishments a couple of times now and find them very appealing. This one provides a nice Banff alternative to the string of hotels along the main drag. We had an upstairs room at the northern extremity of the nicely laid out resort - lovely country charm to room with golden timber interior, nicely furnished, excellent spacious bathroom, open fire ready-set by the staff and a balcony facing directly into the woods. Yes it probably best suits visitors with a car but there seems to be a regular bus shuttle and the walk to town would appeal to many. Peaceful and comfortable - highly recommended
"Great rooms and location"
Located above Banff this is a lovely place to stay. Rooms are rustic but well maintained and with hugely comfortable beds. Some are second storey with no lifts so bear that in mind if you have heavy cases. Toilettries are provided as is a fan, open fire, and tea/coffee. The mountain views are great. There are 2 on site restaurants both of which are above average and worth a visit. The staff in both are excellent. If you prefer to go into town its a steep but pleasent 10-15 minute walk down into Banff. The only thing missing is a room safe.
