"Simple and clean"
We stayed at this hotel as part of our G adventures tour. At first i was a little hesitant as it looks very old from outside, and dont get me wrong, it is a very old hotel that could do with a renovation. The lifts take forever... literally. Our room was on the 6th floor and we were right next to the ice machine which was quite noisy throughout the night. The location is good, not too far from the shopping centre and a few train stations are also close by. I was pleasantly suprised when we got to our room. It was basic, but clean. The shower was good. Breakfast was included and it was ok although limited. Toast, scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon. Overall, it was ok. Wifi was available and it wasnt too bad. I probably wouldnt book this hotel myself, but its a good alternative for someone on a budget.
"Don't do it"
This is what I wrote to Sandman comment page online... "Poor right from the start, poor access to the lobby, double parked on street. Bed not made, no sheets and pillow. No garbage can in room. Stuck in elevator for several floors, finally got out and tried another elevator. My daughter stepped on loose tiles in the pool floor and left tiles on the deck area. Also found loose tiles in the soaker hot tub area. Maintenance is doing a poor job. Just got off the phone with front desk looking for WiFi password, took forever. It was supposed to be on our room info pac. Final straw after returning from pool , 3 of us, room key did not work and had to brave the elevator again to go to desk to re program key card. While in the elevator my guess is that we were accompanied by a male escort which went to our floor. After having a brief conversation with 2 males in the pool area which was quite odd, I have to say we feel this is an unsafe place to spend the night. We will try our best to find a different hotel for our next night in Calgary. In conclusion, this has put both of us in a poor mood and as a result of this "gong show" won't enjoy the rest of the evening. I can say with most certainty that we will not be returning to the Sandman again. Sincerely Room 1214
Worst hotel experience in memory. Started with rude front desk staff who wouldnt accept my debit masyer card. No drinking water or fridge in a soiled room.elevators wrre a nightmare, often waits of 10 to 15 minutes! Constantly had to reset keys downstairs atfront desk. All of this for 150 dollars a night. A nightmare of a hotel experience! Calgarys worst in that price bracket!
"Super super small bathroom "
A good location and overall very good and seriously require renovation. The lifts are very old style, the room locks are old. What really impressed me is its extremely tiny sized bathroom that I have ever seen in hotels. One good thing that worthy to be mentioned is its high speed wifi, no dead corners, no interruption, very smooth.
"Central location but poor overall"
We only stayed here for one night, a Friday night. The room was ok and spacious but our room was next to the elevators which were very loud when they were moving between floors. The elevators were being worked on when we were there so hopefully this is something that can be fixed. The main issue for us was the breakfast the next morning. We were made aware that the restaurant was under renovation and that the bar would be serving breakfast. When we arrived in, we were told by a server that it was a buffet and to help ourselves. It was just a pity there was so little left to help ourselves to. There was a toaster there, that we were trying to use, only to be told by a server that 'the plug is broken or something'. Not very helpful. There were no mugs/cups/glasses for drinks. A server never approached our table to ask if we would like to order a drink. It was such a miserable display that we could only presume that it was a complimentary breakfast that we just arrived down too late to. So once we had eaten what we could salvage from the buffet we got up to leave. Only to be told by the server (who hadn't spoken to us since the toaster fiasco) that we had to pay. To top all this off, a 15% service charge was automatically added to the bill. Something we had not incurred in our 2 week stay in Canada as it was always just the 2 of us. There was no way we were paying the tip as we were literally not provided a service. I am just sorry I paid the bill at all as it was the worst experience I had in Canada. Maybe if the service charge wasn't added then the servers would actually have done some work and tried to earn a tip. We made a complaint to the restaurant which I'm hoping will improve their buffet service.
