Over The Fairmont Palliser
Naturally.

"A four day weekend Getaway"
My husband and I wanted to have some shopping and good food. We live in a small town and rarely see 4 story malls here. We arrived about 6pm and the valets were ready for us. They were very attentive and totally professional. Our check in was so easy, a breeze. They even exchanged our american dollars there in the hotel lobby. They pretty much took care of the things we thought were going to be hard. Upon entering our suite..it was very nicely decorated, clean and modern. The bed was very comfy and clean. The sitting area was separate from our room(we were going to have our daughter come but she got sick). If she had come I dont know that I would have liked sharing a bathroom. Since she didn't it wasn't a problem for us. I do have to say that I didn't know we would be directly behind the train tracks. It wasn't a pleasant experience hearing the trains for the 3 nights we were there...they came by at 3am and so on. Also the view from back there wasn't nice (Ive heard from other guests staying here...rooms far from the tracks are nicer). We now know to ask for a room away from the tracks. Also having the room by the elevator wasn't good. We could hear people lollygagging about and being so loud for like 20mins. Everything else was super nice from the Oak room breakfast (I had the eggs Benedict with truffle oil YUM and the hubby loved the buffet). Everything was super fresh and the people working there are just so attentive. I loved everything about this hotel from the old leather working on the columns to the chandeliers. Next time I will try to have the afternoon tea because it looks just beautiful. We also had room service and they were prompt and professional. I would recommend this place to our friends and family.
"Eating at the Palliser"
Stayed for the weekend. Nice room, nice decor but, oh dear, what awful service in the restaurant. Extremely slow service in the bar in the evening , even though it was practically empty. Excellent French Onion soup, very tired Cobb Salad. Breakfast was a disaster. Again very quiet in the restaurant. Dreadfully slow delivery of our meals, which had obviously been sitting on a hot plate while the breakfast waiter attended to his socializing needs. Thus a breakfast that should have been a really enjoyable part of our relaxing weekend, left us with the opinion that we would rather eat at a fast food restaurant than cope with Palliser catering.
"Fairmont Palliser - Great Experience"
I was in town for a conference held at another hotel and opted to stay at the Fairmont (10 minute walk). The service is always top notch with Fairmont and how can you beat their beds and linens. We have stayed at Fairmont's across Canada and both facilities in Bermuda. While the Rimrock has an assortment of menu options it could be expanded for more health conscious options. The room rate was also great compared to other comparable hotels.
My fiance and I had been celebrating a major event one friday night and we decided to continue our celebrations by last minute booking a room at the Palliser. We were already downtown, it was a nice night out and we had been half-joking some time now about grabbing a hotel room one night downtown and doing a "stay-cation" because it would make for a fun memory - so we called to reserve a room, and just asked that we were far away from the train tracks and that breakfast was included. We ended up booking a gold floor room and it was outstanding. We didn't realize that we had a separate check-in desk (and it wasn't busy in the lobby) so we missed out on checking that out, but our room was elegant and tastefully decorated. It came with all of the features we love about the Fairmont - the robes, heated floors, amenities, etc. The bed was amazingly comfortable and we had an excellent sleep. And it was dead quiet! The last time my fiance stayed here he was at the end near the train and it was very noisy, so it was really pleasant to not have that problem. We also slept in (not surprising, as we had spent the night celebrating) so we missed out on the gold level floor breakfast and instead ate breakfast in the Oak Room. The service was really good, but I ordered off the menu which was a mistake - I should have opted for the buffet. I ordered a simple bacon and eggs as I feel that it is a tell-tale sign as to the quality of a breakfast place, but it was really disappointing. It tasted like it had just been scooped out of buffet table trays that had been sitting around for a while, and nothing stood out or was anything special. The cappuccino's were cute though and came with rock-candy as the sweetner. I've been in the Palliser lobby a number of times for events, but it's usually dark and I'm not really paying attention to my surroundings so I was really able to take in the decor that morning - and it sure is beautiful. I definitely need to come back for high tea. Overall, our stay was fantastic. I would stay here again in a heartbeat, and definitely want to check out gold floor rooms again next time we stay in a participating location. It was the luxury we were looking for and it definitely made for a memorable night!
"'A grand old lady still has it...'"
The Fairmont Palliser is the bastion of Calgary's hospitality industry. It was a Canadian Pacific Railroad hotel built in 1914 and has been carefully maintained and renovated to modern standards. Fairmont management is evident in all respects. The hotel is located adjacent to the CBD and business centres and caters for travelers of all types. Our room was large, comfortable, clean and modern and furnished as befits a 5 star hotel.Colors and textures were tasteful and all facilities were in working order. The Fairmont staff in all ares were friendly and efficient. They all appeared to know their business. The concierge proved most knowledgeable and was quickly able to direct us to a camera store that was accessible and met our travel plans and needs albeit in another city. A triumph for us in solving a problem. The Fairmont Palliser met our needs in all respects and we would certainly stay there again should our needs demand it.
