Over The Fairmont Palliser

"Luxurious stay in the heart of the city."
This is my second stay at this Fairmont and it's never disappointed me. I had an excellent time at the Fairmont for my 3-night stay again on the Gold floor. The rooms were gorgeous and the service I received from the Staff in the Gold Lounge was 5-stars. I had an extended conversation with one of the managers, Warren, he was very warm, courteous and attentive. The selection of snacks for their hors d'oevres was rich and filling and the breakfast was a perfect way to start my day. The kind of service I received has encouraged me to book Fairmont every time I travel, my only disappointment was that all three Fairmont hotels at my next destination are completely sold out for the days I wished to visit. Will definitely stay again. The extras I appreciated was the turndown service, complimentary shoe polish and wake-up calls with coffee delivered right to my door.
"No free wifi and poor view "
We stayed in three hotels during our trip to Canada and this was the only one we were disappointed with. There are positives about the hotel: the rose scented toiletries in the room are lovely; the employees are all very friendly and keen to help; the rooms and communal areas are well presented; and the location is very central. Despite all this, we were disappointed as there is no complimentary wifi and charges for internet access are high. As a tourist, wifi is so helpful (looking up places to eat, checking in to flights etc) and we struggled without it. We ended up seeking out places to eat that had wifi and staying there much longer. As a result, we spent very little time actually in the hotel. There is another hotel just down the road- directly opposite the CN tower- which had an excellent free wifi connection we could access when sitting in their lobby. For the wifi reason, I would not stay at this hotel chain again. It seems extremely tight to not give paying guests wifi.
"Family Visit - OVER PRICED "
We attended the Fairmount with our 2 young children. The valet parking was really reasonable at $25 for the night and the gentlemen at the main door where super helpful. Hotel room was a double/double for the cost of the room I thought they where really basic and the beds where very small. Our room was really noisy and we heard Sirens and cars all night. Not enough plug sockets and one of the ones we did have didn't work. No Free WIFI?
"Exceptional stay! Very comfortable (albeit cozy) quiet room, excellent spa experience!"
Prompt, pleasant, and professionally greeted on arrival. Requested quiet room away from elevator, ice machine & was well pleased with room and location. Very comfortable bed, however room "cozy" in size compared to some Fairmont properties. Spa experiences were amazing! Very accommodating in availability and wonderful quiet surroundings and services.
"Afternoon Tea Bait & Switch"
I hosted a bridal shower here for my best friend on April 9, 2017. We had 14 guests attend this event, and we were all surprised when we were presented with the bill at the end of the service. We saw that we were charged $45 each for the Afternoon Tea, when the tea is advertised as $35 online. Our server and the manager on duty said that the $35 cost cited online was from the global Fairmont website, and didn't apply to the direct Fairmont Palliser Calgary website. Both our server and the manager said that they had heard about the $35 tea before, and that the price had been changed to $45 more than a year ago, even though this was not indicated online or confirmed with me when I confirmed our reservation. I (and several other guests) did a quick search on our phones and showed the manager what we found. The only reference to price was the $35 Afternoon Tea. We found the Japanese Spring Tea menu (as referenced by the manager and Magda Cautley-Davis) on the Fairmont Palliser Calgary website, but there was NO PRICE on that menu at all. There was also no price listed for Afternoon Tea on the direct website. The staff keep referencing the direct website, which is extremely unhelpful and frustrating as there was NO pricing information on there. The Fairmont Palliser document that we found referencing $35 Afternoon Tea, in the picture attached. After speaking to the manager about this price discrepancy, they agreed to refund us the difference. This made a fairly big difference on the total bill, especially as we had the mandatory 18% gratuity we had to pay for having a large group. About half of our guests received a refund, and the manager specified that Magda would be in touch to determine a solution for the remaining guests (such as refund or voucher) who had paid $45 instead of $35. We want a solution that is fair to all of our guests. Magda left quite an unpleasant voicemail for me and was generally patronizing and unhelpful. Clearly nobody has actually checked the Fairmont's own website to see that it is indeed incorrect. I would still like to speak to someone who can actually help me develop a solution for my other guests. One of my shower attendees contacted Magda to talk about the refund and/or voucher discussed by the manager on duty on April 9th, only to be turned down. I am not sure why Magda even called to leave a message, if her intent was not to assist us in finding a solution. I look forward to hearing from someone to can actually assist me. Regards.
