"Solid B, but could use a little polish ✪✪✪✪"
The long and short of this review is that I would definitely return. There are a few things that would have made this stay better. Room - ✪✪✪.5 Overall the room was pretty good the reason it didn't get 4 stars is that there was a minor ant problem. This wasn't just the room I was in, but other rooms as well. A nice-to-have would have been some type of larger room option that could sleep more couples in separate rooms. This didn't affect my scoring but was something that would have been a plus. Food - ✪✪✪✪ The food was good. Everything we had seemed fresh. We were there for 3 nights and were able to try most things on the menu. I think the menu would need to change after the 4th day. I'm not sure if it did, but we had tried everything that we liked on the menu by our 3rd dinner. I think the breakfast menu could have been simpler. Adding some simple pancakes and a general eggs, toast, meat option would be welcomed. Boat Tour of Princess Louisa Inlet - ✪✪✪✪✪ The boat tour was great. We stopped at a few places to view petroglyphs and Chatterbox falls were well worth it. There were some snacks at lunch and then we headed back with a couple of other stops on the way. I think this is a must do. Overall it was a great trip. We were there a week before Memorial day so perhaps that's why we ran into some of the things we did. I think when paying a premium for rooms ~$300/night, that things like the ants, a pretty easy fix, wouldn't have been an issue.
Wow what a great place we happened upon. Our room 503 was stunning with its ocean view. Outstanding in fact. Bathroom spotless as was the very comfortable bed and surroundings. Unfortunately fridge did not work but that was ok we survived. We walked around and then went to dinner for 6:45. Sadly our salads only came at 7:45 !!! Long wait when you are hungry. I mean really how hard is it to make and produce a salad. Service was shocking and servers seemed in a fluster... It wasn't busy so not sure why the problem. We both ordered Halibut which was outstanding and beautifully presented. We did complain about the long wait for our food and hence our first round of drinks was taken care of. When it was time to order dessert our server told us only ice cream and strawberries were left!! Whaaaaat? Are you kidding me - it was only 8:30 pm. Anyway, the ice cream was the BEST ice cream (vanilla) I have ever had. Whilst eating it, I heard the server offer the table next to us some wonderful banana cream pie for dessert!! Why were we not offered that. This was literally 5 minutes after we were told no other dessert. I was not impressed. Seems to me it was a bit of a Faulty Towers situation. However, having said that we had a wonderful stay and I would thoroughly recommend this place. They just need to brush up on the restaurant situation and also be more vocal with what they have to offer for activities. We had to drag it out of the Reception area. Seems to me nobody knew what was going on... Oh well.
"An Adventurous Stay"
Although our arrival at the lodge felt a little disorganized, from the moment we walked into our Ocean View room overlooking the inlet, our day was made! The views and sounds from the balcony of our room were amazing, we must have taken over a dozen photos before we even looked at anything else. The room was spacious, well appointed and very clean and the bed was the most comfortable bed that we have ever slept in. Our adventure started with a walk through the forest to the Skookumchuck Rapids. This was a casual 1 hour walk, each way, on a well maintained trail. The rapids didn't happen to be rapids on that day but it still was a very nice view and rest spot before heading back to the lodge. The high standards of the lodge particularly showed in their food. Our evening meal was probably the best meal of our holiday in BC. It was a pleasure to see such generous portions and the local flavours were delicious! The dining area has several binoculars on the window ledges that are great for viewing the wildlife whilst dining. We enjoyed seeing a Bald Eagle and Seals on the rocks in the distance. Our adventure continued after our dinner as we walked down to the private dock, waited for darkness, where we then witnessed the most intense bio-luminescence in the water we have ever seen. This was recommended to us by one of the Dining Room staff and we are glad we didn't miss it. (wave a stick in the water and watch what happens!) Breakfast the next morning was equally as good and was a great start to our day. A special mention for Tara that served us in the dining room, she was so pleasant, friendly and informative and really added to our stay! Check out their off property excursions, this lodge is definitely worth the drive!
what a beautiful place to spend sometime relaxing The rooms and views were spectacular and the food was very good a good place to unwind and drink in the mountains and lake views We incorporated the trip with a boat trip to Chatterbox falls in ideal from the lodge
"Fabulous locaion and lodge"
This is a luxurious lodge tucked up on the edge of the Sechelt Penninsula...at the end of the Sunshine Highway. Pricey but worth it -- staff was lovely - hotel suite had a spectacular view. From here we took a sea plane to Princess Louisa Inlet and a zodiak boat back. Spectacular fjords. A fabulous spot to celebrate my birthday. Food was gourmet -- we did a package which included meals, might skip that next time and just eat a hamburger down at Back Eddy one day. Book early, not many places to stay and fills up!
