Over Emerald Lake Lodge

"Unique and beautiful"
After reading several bad reviews on TA I didn't know what to expect from this hotel by the beautiful Emerald Lake. After parking our car at the designated parking lot for guests (look for the sign before you get to the lake), the friendly hotel shuttle took us to the reception. The young and friendly staff checked us in and we went to room 122 that had the most beautiful lake view we could imagine, a fire place, a king bed and a nice sitting area. The room was rustic, spot clean and it had everything we needed for our stay. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Dinner was tasty and creative. Breakfast was mediocre. We canoed in the lake - a must do, if you want to really enjoy the experience of being there. Emerald Lake Lodge is a perfect place to spend the night while traveling through the Canadian Rockies!
Our room had a stunning view right on the lake with a balcony to enjoy, our cocktails and coffee/tea. Beautiful hanging baskets and flowers on the grounds. Fireplace in our room for cozy evenings and cool mornings. The Salmon we had in the lounge was awesome. Very relaxing trip.
"living of past glory"
Living off past reviews years ago The location is stunning we had a great view from our room overlooking the lake. The weather was great and food pretty good. However the room desperately needs refurbishment as does the entire resort, the main lodge is okay. The hotel resort is way overpriced for the standard provided and is living off past reviews from what must have been years ago. We have been travelling Canada now for 12 days and this unfortunately would be the location we would change if we did the trip again. The track up the mountain is highly recommended and made our trip memorable. I generally do not post reviews but on this occasion felt I had to highlight my concerns.
We stopped at emerald lake and walked up the hill past the food and drink stalls to the lodge. It was worth it. We got nice drinks in a convivial atmosphere and it wasn't that much more than we would have paid at a stall. The room is very nice and the staff professional if not the friendliest I've ever come across.
"5 for setting, 3 otherwise"
I finalized realized a 30 year dream when I brought my husband here for an overnight visit. The room was neat and clean and the view of the lake from our porch was unsurpassable! Staff were for the most part friendly, but by and large indifferent to guests' needs. We were not told in advance that due to a problem all water had to be boiled at present. We were provided bottled water, but it was still disconcerting. (Rather funny that my husband was presented with a birthday gift consisting of two bottles of water (!) and a teeny bag of trail mix. Another example of staff not thinking about what they were doing - coals to Newcastle since they were giving us water anyway!). Food was mediocre in both the casual and "upscale" dining rooms. The room was woefully lacking in outlets. Should have had a portable fan available as well as portable heater (no a/c), and for the price the lack of internet and TV was a slight negative, although it was fine given the setting. An unexpected problem was the complete lack of phone service anywhere at the resort. As a doctor in solo practice, my psychiatrist husband needs to be available to patients. He happened to be dealing with a psychotic patient that day. It was a worrisome night being out of contact, and we were not informed in advance so he was unable to have coverage. Overall, the room's porch view made the stay worth it. Other than that, a day visit to see the gorgeous lake would suffice.
