"Beautiful Hotel and Surroundings!"
We were visiting Jasper and decided to treat ourselves to a bit of Fairmont luxury - we weren't disappointed! The hotel is set in a gorgeous area of natural beauty, surrounded by mountains and lakes. The grounds were well kept and we saw plenty of wildlife just wandering about the property. We used the in-room dining both evenings and the food was delicious and presented in a beautiful and timely manner. The room was lovely and the bed was to die for. I would definitely stay again!
"Wonderful Symphony package stay"
Really enjoyed our recent 2 night Edmonton Symphony package stay at JPL. Dinner was outstanding and service (as always) very good. The Symphony was excellent and there are nice touches such as delicious hot chocolate to help warm you up.
"Fairmont has better"
We drove the distance from Calgary to stay at the JPL over thanksgiving weekend. It had been years since we had been to Jasper, and neither of us had stayed at the JPL before. We stayed in one of the cabins - one of which had not yet been renovated. It was fairly disappointing. I had heard that they had been doing renovations for some time now and was hoping that they had been completed, alas they had not. Many of the features that I have come to love about Fairmont was missing. There were no robes in the room, no heated bathroom floors, the phone didn't work properly, and no mini-bar snacks. I definitely would not stay in the un-renovated room again and would think that it's worth your while to shell out whatever it is extra to get a refreshed room, otherwise don't bother and save your money for another Fairmont location. The "cabin" style accommodations took a bit of warming up to the idea, and it was fairly cold that weekend so we always had to bring a jacket with us to walk to the main building (and goose feces is pretty rampant on the pathways). Additionally, parking was atrocious and we had to park a fair walk away from our cabin. People were also parked in the Loading Zone for our cabin on the first night so we had to squeeze around the vehicles with our luggage to get to the cabin stairs. So aggravating and thankfully they were gone the next morning. Another thing we were sad to miss out on - no valet parking (for obvious reasons) when staying in the cabins. I would be curious to know what the rooms in the main building were like as it seems like they would be more "our style". It also appears that housekeeping didn't do as thorough of a job as one would expect on our room before we arrived, as my fiance went to take a shower and upon pulling out the shower curtain, a pair of previous guests underwear fell down. So. Gross. One of the days we had just come back from sightseeing and wanted to order the picnic basket that they offer on the in-room dining menu (I looked into this in advance and LOVED the idea) and had originally considered taking it with us on a canoe trip. The basket is advertised as taking 1 hour to prepare but when I called down, they told me it was going to be 3 hours?! I couldn't believe my ears and was SO disappointed. We ended up ordering off the regular room service menu and that only took 30 minutes, so it was beyond me why it was going to take 3 hours. She mentioned that the main items in the basket could be picked up from the cafe in the main building, we just couldn't pick up items like the watermelon wedges - so once again, no idea what was going to take 3 hours. We had also just walked back from the main building and was not about to walk back. With that being said, the food we ordered from room service was really tasty and felt of good and fresh quality. Our first night we couldn't get into Orso and we had a reservation the next night at Moose's Nook so we ate in the Emerald Lounge. It was fairly busy but not overly noisy which was nice. Service was fairly good, and food was delicious. Moose's Nook was also delicious and the service was fantastic. We really enjoyed the live piano music and wished we had thought of a request before hand! However, once again more disappointment - they present a Chef's Tasting Menu online (and the ONLY reason I booked a reso here) and they were not offering it! Argh. They did have a special on for a thanksgiving meal but we were not interested. With that being said, the food we did order was delicious. We ate breakfast both mornings in Orso where they have a buffet. They designed the restaurant really well so that it is long and not wide, so that a maximum number of tables have window seating and we had a window seat of the lake both mornings. It was beautiful, and I think the best service we got throughout all of our dining experiences was at breakfast. The food was delicious, they always had fruit smoothie samples, and you can order eggs fresh to order from the waiter with the buffet. The lake is stunning and while we didn't end up going for a canoe ride, it was still nice to sit and watch. We didn't get a chance to use the pool either as we forgot our swimsuits and couldn't have been bothered to purchase any from the store located in the main building. Overall we felt a bit let down by the Fairmont. This property just doesn't seem to quite fit in with what the brand is trying to market. We wanted a luxury get-away, and while we more than paid for it, we didn't receive it. While I still love the Fairmont, I don't think I'll be in much of a rush to go back to this location.
Such an amazing location. Lots of animals, mountains, lakes! Get Presidents Club membership (free) for free wifi! Great recycling program! Restaurants are expensive at this location - go into town and/or bring food/drinks for the small fridge in your room. Staff are incredibly friendly!
"An outstanding engagement weekend at JPL!"
Spent the weekend at Jasper Park Lodge, and proposed to my girlfriend. The stay was beautiful, and the food and service at ORSO was above and beyond. The server we had was one of the best I think I've ever encountered and he made our dinner very memorable, and extraordinary.
