"needs to be renovated"
i have stayed here for many years and it has progressively gone down hill. Great location and should always be able to attract customers but it needs a renovation now. everything is old and poorly arranged. It becomes very obvious the ownership is neglecting this place. Too bad, many years ago this was one of my favourite spots. Service is marginally friendly if not 'just doing the job'.
"A bit run down - needs some TLC!"
I picked this Lodge for its location - close to Lake Louise. Our room was on the ground floor, which was good as I am on crutches and our room fairly spacious and modern. It didn't have a TV which we didn't mind - but some might. The glass door to our bathroom opened both ways and was at such an angle - poor design - cut the top off my toe - in the middle of the night, luckily I packed plasters. There are two restaurants - one you have to book and is fairly expensive (Mount Fairview) and one you don't (Caribou). We ate at the Caribou both evenings. Serving staff were friendly and helpful. Menu and food good. Big lounge with comfortable chairs - not enough of them - and a lovely fire made it inviting. I have only given it three stars as the hotel needs a bit of money spent on it. Its very tired in places. Chairs are worn, a coat of paint in some of the hallways etc. The cupboard with games to play were half empty, tatty and with pieces missing. The breakfast was such a let down. On the first morning we arrived an hour after it had opened, most of the selection of fresh fruit was gone, breads only a couple left and none of the staff replenishing them! The eggs cold and rubbery from the self service table too. The following day we arrived promptly when the breakfast door was opened and we got the full selection to chose from. For the money it should be so much better.
"Good room... the rest of the place run down"
Come on people there is no excuse for this place looking as run down as it did. Threadbare chairs in the lounge, hovers left in the landings. They are fully booked most of the year...they don't appear to care. That said the room itself was fine and well looked after. It is a great location.
"Not many places to stay"
Would rather stay here than the Chateau as the prices there are beyond most people unless your on a tour.Staff were nice and helpful ( but husband overheard them being a bit rude to someone, but there may have been a reason). Stayed on bottom flipper which was good as we had heavy bags...but the room we were in was next to a door that people let slam until late at night and early morning so that definitely wasn't very nice. Room was fairly basic and had no kettle or coffee and tea making facilities which was odd in a place this size ... no Tv ( not that we minded but some people might). The biggest problem was the room was very hot and couldn't be turned down so we had windows open and as we were on the bottom floor near the middle exit and stairs it was quite noisy and people could see in. There was only one bedside table for two beds set a fair bit apart so just a bit awkward... this place could be wonderful with just a bit of common sense... The dinning room ( not restaurant) was lovely... beautiful food, and catered for my coeliac disease ...the first night our waiter count have been nicer the second night not so much... the waiter put the menus down and said what would you like before we had even picked up the menu...it was like he wasn't even interested. he cleared the table as my husband was putting the last bite in his mouth... and didn't really listen to what was being asked. A bit of a shame as the food and the first night was wonderful. The sitting area and big gas fire was gorgeous as well. The Hotel is situated a very short walk to Lake Louise so that was nice but really nothing else around here so everyone was just crowded around the lake and the town (Very tiny Mall) was a drive away.... That said the Bakery at the Mall was awesome and catered for Gluten free including wraps etc. Could be great but definitely needs a woman touch in the rooms ( sorry to be sexist)
"Superb location and atmosphere"
Stayed with my husband for 3 nights in September and really enjoyed staying at this hotel. We had no car in Canada and loved being able to set straight off on walks around lake Louise and above. All the staff were helpful and we did have a kettle in our room. Our room was spotless although not large it had plenty of chairs to sit on. The public areas are superb with a large but still cozy lounge, free tea/coffee in the morning and a great games room. We found the food good and took a taxi to the mall one evening for a change. 3 nights was probably sufficient without our own transport.
