Over Deer Lodge Lake Louise

Our favorite

"Do not stay here!"

We stayed here as part of our trip of the Canadian Rockies. The situation is great but that is the only thing going for the place. A Heritage hotel it may be but it does not mean Heritage dust and dirt should be included!! There is no lift in the place so bear that in mind if you are not able to tackle stairs with a suitcase...... We arrived mid afternoon and thought we would have a cup of tea/beer in the bar after checking in. The guy in the bar was just plain rude. Our wee group thought at first that it was maybe his strange humour but no he was rude. Thankfully we didn’t see him again during our stay. The rooms were basic and could do with a good clean. The inside of my bedside cupbowas thick with dust and obviously had not been cleaned in ages. So was under the bed and the carpets were stained. The bed however was comfortable. All public areas were dirty and needed a thorough clean. Windows were very dirty and obviously had not been cleaned since who knows when. The staff were so dejected but some tried hard to make up for the sad state of affairs at the hotel. I cannot not recommend this hotel.

"Probably the worst thing you can get for your money"

Do not dare! Very small crowded and old fashioned room and toilets. In addition - very dark and depressing with almost no lighting. Almost no facilities at all. Thin wooden walls and ceiling, so you can hear your near neighbours and "enjoy" the beatings of the footsteps of those above anytime they wish. And the price - Sky rocketing!! So for your own sake - don't come near!

My wife and I stayed here while on vacation in the Canadian Rockies and looking for affordable lodging near Lake Louise. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel has a really charming old-world wood lodge feel and is really beautiful. It's actually the exact kind of place I would have pictured staying in the Canadian Rockies. The rooms are quaint, so if you're looking for luxury this is not the place for you. Although, I'm not sure why anyone would be spending anytime in their room when in Lake Louise. The hot tub on the roof with a view of Lake Louise was very cool and definitely worth the time. So if you're looking for a great price/quality ratio in Lake Louise this is it! The hotel itself was a 3/4-star experience, but what put it over the top and made the 5-star rating absolutely necessary was the restaurant, which was by far the highlight. We had one of the best meals of our lives in the Deer Lodge restaurant, no exaggeration! The food, atmosphere and service were all spectacular and if you're staying here, you absolutely need to eat here. We had the Buffalo and Elk plate, Gnocchi and Quinoa cake. It was all incredible. The beer and drinks were also fantastic. I also have to mention our server, Riley, he was great. By the end of the meal, I felt like he was more of a friend rather than our server. He took the time to talk to us about the area, gave us great advice and really was everything you would want from a server at a tourist area like this. The hotel is great, but I would come back again just to eat at this restaurant.

"Simply awful"

Stayed here in September for one night. So glad it was just one night. Front of house and waiting staff did their best and were the only redeeming feature in an otherwise dreadful establishment. Rooms were purported to have been refurbished. I can only assume that was in the 70’s! Far from clean - chipped furniture and stained upholstery. There was an awful smell of drains in the corridor and we had to walk past piles of dirty bed linen spilling out of an open door. Not exactly the guest experience we had expected. Guests were forced to dine on the terrace after sundown, when it was decidedly chilly, as there were no tables available in the bar, despite the restaurant being empty! Management wouldn’t allow guests to sit in the restaurant for bar meals - bizarre! After an uncomfortable night sleeping under a towel as the brown, brushed cotton duvet didn’t look too clean we ventured to breakfast with trepidation. We were pleasantly surprised by the breakfast - not the best, but acceptable. Besides the Fairmont this is the only other lakeside hotel. They clearly rest on their laurels because they know we are a captive audience. Management seriously needs to invest in making massive improvements to come anywhere close to other far cheaper hotels we stayed in on our Canada trip. My advice is DON’T STAY HERE! If the Fairmont is beyond your budget then book a hotel in the village and get transport to the Lake, or do it as a day trip from Banff. Deer Lodge seriously lets down the Canadian tourist industry.

"Great location and good hotel!"

The location is fantastic, just a few minutes walk from the shore of Lake Louise, our room was big enough and comfortable for our nights stay, we ate at the restaurant on the evening, we received a complimentary glass of prossecco each as we were there as part of our honeymoon tour of the Rockies and the food was very good and the service was great, including a surprise candle and desert for the husband! Overall I would recommend as it is a lot cheaper than the chateau (we walked down to the chateau before dinner to watch the sunset and have some pre dinner drinks etc)
