We had a trip to place top 5 easily of all of our travels. We are not normally winter destination travelers, honestly me & my kids have only seen snow twice. But we wanted a unique experience for our son's senior high school spring break trip. We picked the perfect place for this. The hotel was spectacular. Lots of dining options, HOWEVER, during the winter months, some of the restaurants are closed unfortunately. But we never grew hungry or bored with our options! The ice castle outside on the frozen pond was so fun. The ice bar outside was quite unique. Service was so over the top and friendly (except for the hostess who we asked specifically for the fabulous table in the lounge that has the best scenic view. We got the the restaurant 10 minutes before it opened, requested the table, she said she'd save it for us, we came back 10 minutes later and she gave the table away to the couple in front of us WHILE WE WERE STANDING THERE LOOKING AT HER!). Oh well. Aggravating, but what can you do. Everyone else was great. Concierge - cannot speak highly enough about Eric. He went ABOVE AND BEYOND when a few others kinda dropped the ball during our planning. We are booked months in advance (we thought) on a sleigh ride, only to be told the week before our arrival a wedding party had taken all the reservations. Very disappointed since that was our only good day to take one, Eric not only contacted me several times (I hadn't had a chance to respond right away), but he got the company to add an extra sleigh ride after the wedding party to accommodate us. We met him when we arrived and he was just so exceptional in his service. The spa was a great experience and offered some unique services. The afternoon tea time was lovely. The food was fabulous every restaurant we tried (and we're not usually big on hotel food). We stayed in a suite and it was nice to have the room with two teen boys. We had 2 bedrooms, two baths and a half bath. There was a separate den area. It was very nice. Nothing crazy fabulous, but very comfortable and nice. Love this place. Hope to see it again in the summer! But the winter experience would be hard to top for those like us who are southerners and normally take tropical vacations.
"Big, Bold & Beautiful"
It is one thing to visualise how this big, bold & beautiful hotel looks from a photo but to see it in person is another sight to me behold. WOW. The hotel is Grande in Size, imposing in fact and the views are exceptional as one would expect. However, the icing on this cake is by far the 'friendly service and warm Canadian hospitality'. There are a handful of restaurant options spread throughout the premises, worthy of mention was the bar brasserie (found on check in level), boasting elevated views over the lake, simply spectacular after a days skiing. At the time I was there they had beautiful ICE sculptures on the lake front and beyond that facing the escarpment of the two mountains surrounding the hotel was an ice hockey pitch. There are many activities to do here, boutique shopping, pamperping/spa treatments, outdoor activities it is really quite endless. However if skiing is at the top of your list, the hotel is 15 mins from the resort of Lake Louise and there is a free shuttle two and from the mountain which I was as convenient as one needs. I would highly recommend any couple or family wanting a stay in a luxurious setting, entirely memorable and unforgettable.
"Best Ski Trip Ever!"
My husband and I recently spent 6 nights at the chateau fairmont lake Louise and had the best time! Unfortunately I was in the beginning stages of bronchitis the day we flew in. During the drive from the airport to the hotel I emailed the concierge and requested a vaporizer for the room. I didn't even think they'd read the email before we got there, but lo and behold it was in our room running gently when we walked in. That spoke volumes to me. Thank you 7th floor staff! We stayed on the 7th floor which is the fairmont Gold rooms and includes breakfast at 7am and canapés at 5pm. That was the best thing ever for people who ski and need to grab food before heading out and need something right away when they come back! I overdosed on their lemon infused water and hot chocolate! The snow on the mountains was amazing, the skiing was such a blast and I only wish I was healthy during our stay. I can't say enough about the hotel, the friendly and helpful staff, the amenities etc. I've skied and stayed at many high end resorts and this one is my new favourite. We're coming back next year, with our adult children...I can't wait! And I'll make sure and pre-book a dog sled tour before we get there. It looked like an absolute blast, but it was completely booked up during our stay and a couple of weeks after. I could say even more...but you get the point! 💗
"Magical Landscape, Unfortunate Food Poisoning"
My wife and I are from Calgary and have visited Lake Louise many times for its unmatched natural beauty. We thought it would be a nice treat to actually stay at the chateau but had a bit of bad luck. After arriving in the early evening and exploring the grounds, we sat down to a shared meal of two appetizers and a main at the Alpine Social (formerly the Glacier Saloon I think). It's newly renovated and the waitstaff were great, but 8 hours after the meal my wife and I both woke up in the night with abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea that lasted the entire following day and kept us cooped up in our room instead of exploring the property like we had planned. Here's the thing: we're both family physicians. With both of us getting sick within an hour or so of each other, looking at what we could have been jointly exposed to in the preceeding 3-5 days that would present with these symptoms left us no possibility other than food poisoning or Norovirus exposure from the hotel. The hotel staff seemed uneasy about taking our story seriously--one of them shrugged and said there was "a lot of illness in the mountains", another offered that we might be suffering from "altitude sickness", which we thought was funny in a sad way when he told us this knowing what we did for a living and that we were from Calgary to begin with. At no point did we ask for or bring up the option of refunding part of the meal or anything like that, so it was disappointing that we were being treated like we were wrongfully accusing them or fabricating the story. As if we wanted to waste our getaway throwing up in our room. At checkout the concierge desk did ask if we wanted to file a report with security, but seemed just as skeptical and at that point we just wanted to get back home to recover. Looking at some of the other reviews here, it appears that other people with similar symptoms weren't able to get anywhere with security either. We recognize that even with meticulous precautions, illnesses like these are a fact of life. We deal with them every day. It's possible one of the kitchen staff was contagious with Norovirus and wasn't even aware. It's just that for the price you pay to actually stay at a property like this, we felt we had a right to expect a certain level of care and empathy for the quality of our experience, and that wasn't there. It would have been nice if someone gave us enough of the benefit of the doubt to ask for some more details before brushing us off. The scenery is beautiful, the chateau is charming, and most of our staff interactions were okay. But, with how our experience was handled, the next time we plan a getaway I'm not sure I'd be comfortable going back. Banff and Canmore have plenty of beautiful options as well, and the view of the Victoria Glacier can always be had for the time it takes to drive up there and park in the public lot.
"Stunning location but disappointing hotel"
The location is awe inspiring however we were disappointed with the hotel given its status & the write ups we had seen. It is very tired looking in all areas except the spa. The restaurant/bar area which has beautiful lake views was dirty & overpriced. The deli area looks like a third rate cafe also outdated & drab. There is no lounge area where you can relax without having to buy something. Our room had constant plumbing noises & looked in need of a refurb. The positives were the staff who were mostly professional & helpful. I would not stay here again. Over hyped & overpriced.
