"Perfect hotel experience - BUT the billing!!"
It really pains me to give an average review to such a beautiful hotel. I have stayed here before and everything was flawless. This time, the hotel, the views, the service at concierge, restaurants, our comfy bed, the fun canoe ride- all perfecto. We had a lake view room and as usual, with a world class view of the lake in all it's turquoise glory. Really no complaints about any of it BUT we cannot forgive what happened with our bill while we were there and afterwards. To start with, when we arrived, we were told that our booking had been cancelled???? We were devastated as we had booked AND PAID IN FULL this lake view room over a year ago! We were told that our travel agent in Australia had sent an email to cancel the booking, so we cannot say if this was an error of Fairmont or not. Did not matter, they found another lake view room for us on the third floor. All good - so we thought. The day after check in, we looked at our credit card statement on-line and found a pending transaction from the Fairmont of $300, that was fine as that was for incidentals etc no worries, would be reversed on departure. We also discovered another pending charge of almost $600 which we queried with the hotel. Were told this pending charge was a mistake, wont happen again. The next day, once again checked our statement, another pending charge of almost $600, once again told sorry, their mistake and wont happen again. Next day, you guessed it! Another pending charge of almost $600! What was going on? Queried this and was again told was a mistake and would be reversed. This was the morning that we were checking out. I asked them to confirm that the room was paid in full and finalised. They confirmed this and advised as we were checking out there will not be any more charges as we were leaving and our 'account' will be closed. Relieved we did not have to deal with this any longer, we went to our next stop in Calgary. A couple of days later we checked our statement and guess what? There was another charge of around $2700!!! This was not a pending charge either. This was a full charge to our credit card. By this time, we were livid and contacted our travel agent in Australia to fix it all up. Thankfully she did get it all sorted and the charge was reversed BUT we are still out of pocket due to the difference in conversion rates. I understand that there are human errors, can forgive that, but considering we brought this problem to their attention on a number of occasions and we were assured it would not happen again, but it only got worse. This really did affect our time there and we paid ALOT of money to stay in our room for 3 nights. We recommend staying here because, as I say, the hotel is perfection, but these billing errors really marred things for us.
"Like an ant hill"
I'm not sure who to write this for, all the people at the hotel that don't stay there. Or all the people staying at the hotel and weaving through the crowds of all the others. This is some form of monument located in a public park. Just too hectic for us. When I lay out a $1,000 a day for a place to stay, I don't want to share it with busloads of others, I don't want to wait for a table while all the tables are booked by people not staying at the hotel, I don't want to constantly thread my way through an ocean of people just to get to the front desk. Yes the view is spectacular. The hotel is unique, especially given there's nothing remotely close in the USA national parks (though we do have drones, helicopters and balloons nowadays). But never again.
"Beautiful, but with a few FYIs..."
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise was the second leg of our special trip to the Canadian Rockies last month. We splurged and got a penthouse suite with Gold Floor/President's Club privileges. Wow what a beautiful view! And the suite was great too. The staff was friendly, the Walliser Stube restaurant was good, and the Hotel even has a photography business that you can hire to take beautiful portraits of you & your loved one(s) with the lake & mountains as a backdrop. I'd recommend combining the Chateau Lake Louise with some outdoor interest, like hiking, walking, or canoeing. You can do these things on the Hotel grounds or from the Hotel. But that's about it... the Hotel is rather remote and it can get boring. Bring a good book or catch up on your sleep if you're not an outdoor person. The Hotel grounds and lobby are pretty crowded with day trippers and the tour bus crowd, so the Gold Floor is the best bet for a quiet, elegant stay to match the beauty of the lake & mountains. The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Gold Floor/President's Club is smaller and not as deluxe as the Fairmont Banff Springs Gold Floor / President's Club, but it's still nice and the staff is friendly. If you're in the Jasper area, consider the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise! Even if it's just for a few hours, you'll enjoy a gorgeous view and a nice hotel.
"Outstanding Hospitality, Service & Scenery"
My wife and I celebrated our 10 yr. anniversary at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and, in short, we had a terrific experience and would highly recommend a visit there if you enjoy fine dining, scenic views and hiking. We visited from Oct. 13th - 18th, and did not feel as if we were fighting crowds to see the unreal views. Nothing I could say, due to my own limitations as a writer, could capture the beauty of the lake and the mountains that surround it. When you stay, and this is important, get a room that faces the lake --- you are paying for the view as much as anything, and, we did not regret for a moment our choice to stay in a king bed room that faced the water. The room itself was modestly sized if not on the smaller side (standard room with king bed), but it was made up for with the combination of the nice linens, the cleanliness and the location. We had a relatively minor issue with our room one night, and the Fairmont made every effort to improve our experience and correct the matter --- we were more than satisfied with the quality of care. This would be a great opportunity to thank a few of the staff at the Fairmont that made it such a pleasant stay for us. Vishal and Lulu, thank you very much for your outstanding care of us while we worked through the matter with our room --- you went above and beyond our expectations to ensure that we had a wonderful stay. Ross, our tour guide for the Lakeshore trail, is an impressive young man with a wealth of knowledge and an incredibly bright future (if you visit the Chateau on Lake Louise, I highly recommend asking for Ross) --- he truly has a passion for visitors to experience the outdoors that surround the Chateau, and his love of nature and experiencing the great outdoors is unmatched. In summary, if hiking, fine dining and beautiful scenery are on your checklist for a vacation, then, the Chateau on Lake Louise is that place. To the Chateau - Thank You for a great vacation and a wonderful experience!
I had a room with a view of the lake - beautiful aqua colored water. The grounds are lovely with gardens and seating to linger and absorb the views. Hotel itself is like a small city with many shops and restaurants to visit. This was part of a Tauck Tour of the Rockies!
