"A Canadian must-see"
This is a jewel in the crown of Fairmont properties in Canada. We met up with another family. Our kids are 3 to 9 years old. The main thing here is the spectacular mountains! Definitely one of the most beautiful spots in the world, and there's a fabulous hotel there! The food is amazing, there is a variety of restaurants. The kids' menu is great; kids five and under eat free and kids over five eat half price from the adult menu. Too many highlights 10 AM… Scallops, fondue, mac & cheese. Lots of activities: swimming, hot tub, skating, cross country, downhill 10 minutes away at one of the best hills in Canada, there's a walking trail along the right-hand side of the lake you can do in boots, or snowshoes. We did the sleigh ride pulled by 2 Percherons for $36 each, very beautiful and worthwhile. Don't forget apples for the horses! You can rent plastic slides, downhill skis, cross country skis, snowshoes, and skates. We brought our skates and helmets to skip the rental process. We rented downhill, it was approximately $40-60 per person per day. We saw the sled dogs but were too late to book – reserve in advance! Somewhat pricey and takes a few hours but their route up the 1 A across the great divide is spectacular. Our friends did snowy owl dog sledding at a different location and loved it. The staff are adorable and seemingly mostly Australian! There is staff housing there so they have a lot of fun together. I find it kid friendly, with the occasional disapproving glare. We spent two nights at the Banff Springs first then spent two nights at the Château Lake Louise. That was a great combination. If you have longer, you could add two days at Jasper Park Lodge. Priceless family time, even better if you can arrange to go with friends. At the ski hill they have tubing too, was perfect for the kids. Tubing tickets are about $20 each. The lake view rooms are 50 bucks more but I would say worth it! Otherwise the idling buses are quite loud. We were there at a quieter time during the week and that made a big difference to our enjoyment – we don't love crowds. There is even a hotel dog named Marcus that the kids love. I would live there if I could! Save up your pennies and go – you'll never forget it! There are some good restaurants in the village if you'd like to go for a short drive.
"Grand hotel and fun setting "
We got a coupon from the front desk for free snowshoeing which was so much fun - there are trails or you can go on the lake. It's pretty remarkable to see such a huge hotel in the middle of nowhere and they do have many activities to keep you busy. Lots of options for food though I would recommend the restaurant at the Post Hotel for dinner (10 min drive up the road). The hotel is stately and huge and the rooms are nice, but they could be bigger. Also we were disappointed the sauna and steam room were down. The Banff Springs Fairmont has better indoor amenities and the rooms are larger but it depends what you are looking for, as being right on the lake is fun. Parking is $30 a night.
"Not too impressed, expected better"
There is no doubt that this hotel is positioned in a very beautiful spot but I found room (and especially bathroom) rather small, gym room and its equipment broken/ not up to par, pool is nothing spectacular. I thought Fairmont Banff Springs was much more interesting/ historic place.
"Lots going on "
We are actually staying at the Fairmont Banff Springs hotel but paid a visit to their hotel at Lake Louise on a recommendation. There's plenty going on for families and couples alike. Super ice sculptures, horse drawn sleigh rides and amazing walks around the lake or into the hills. The hotel is far busier than the Springs and caters more for the skiers given its proximity to lake Louise. Free shuttles to the ski resort too Recommend that you visit if only for the stunning views.
"great location but expensive dining"
The Chateau is in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. We stayed here 4 nights and did cross country skiing. The skiing was wonderful. The Fairview trail from the hotel was the best. The dining in the hotel is overpriced, but is ok.
