"Amazing Resort"

The views, the sound of the ocean crashing against the rocks, the sweet smell of the ocean air. Quick Access to the trail system. Fantastic Place to stay. The best place in Ucluelet, British Columbia Canada.

"Incredible views"

We stayed here for the first 3 nights of our honeymoon on Vancouver Island. We were in a 1BR ocean view room and the view was spectacular! The only issue with the room was the lack of privacy; while there are available curtains across all of the large glass windows, the balcony is not private at all. At one point, I was standing on our balcony looking at the ocean and realized that I could see completely into the neighboring suite's bedroom. The balconies are all connected with glass walls, so you could be sitting right next to your neighbor. I wish I had been more aware of this fact when booking; I would have requested a corner room to have more privacy. The rest of the room was great; the bathroom was huge, with a separate shower (with handheld shower head and rain shower head) and tub. The heated floors were a nice touch. The living room and kitchenette were nice; the couch was a little bit too small and firm, and not situated optimally for using the fireplace. The room was always clean when we came back from our daily excursions. The staff were all very nice at the front desk. We ended up having breakfast at the restaurant one day; it was buffet only which I actually prefer and the many options were great. We had drinks and a burger in the lounge one night and sat at the bar because it was so crowded (nothing is open late in Ucluelet). The bartender was extremely attentive and went so far as to have the kitchen split the burger for us before serving it. She actually recommended some hiking trails for us that we LOVED (and had never even heard about). This is by far the nicest hotel in the area; it's definitely a bit pricey but for the most part worth it.

"Great Location but..."

It's the beauty and location that draw you in but once there, lacking in many ways. Check in was not smooth but once finally done get to the room to find not one of the 3 key cards activated. Back to the front desk to stand in line again. Once inside, carpets were not vacuumed, crumbs on surfaces and kitchen floor, at first we thought someone had already checked in to the room and we were intruding. No light bulbs in sockets, burned out lights and one of the beds leaned to one side, actually sloped downwards. For 2 days sign on the door with no one showing up to clean or bring towels as requested. When we asked again they sent someone and brought some towels but nothing else. The spa was small, no amenities like you would see in other spas, just basic, they even had issues finding me an average pair of sandals and a towel as the cupboards were empty. I had a reaction to a seaweed mask unfortunately and they were kind enough to bring me ice & a cloth for my face which helped bring down the swelling and redness. The professional working with my friend noticed me having issues and stepped up to help right away. During my pedicure my estetician filed the side of my foot so hard that I have a gash that still hasn't healed. I think this resort just simply relys on the gorgeous natural surroundings rather than living up to the price tag people are paying to stay there. I can go to the Pacific Trail to see the gorgeous natural surroundings, don't need to waste a lot of money doing it. No service, nothing special, disappointed, won't be back.

"Vacation stay"

Recommended and booked by our travel agent for a three night stay on our Canadian Adventure. Black Rock sure lived up to its name. The room although stylish lacked adequate lighting and due to the position of the room we had to have lights on even during the day. Unfortunately this afforded us no privacy from the pathway which passed close to the studio apartment. It was a bit like living in a shop window. Fridge was very noisy and kept us awake. Bathroom was very stylish with separate bath tub and shower but again we found it very dark. We found the food to be good but service slow. Tom in the bar was a breath of of fresh air and Kai from the restaurant helpful. We had difficulty making a reservation for the restaurant so would advise anyone to book ahead of your visit. We had occasion to phone reception at 4am because of noise from an adjoining room. Ironically they came knocking at our door thinking it was us causing the disturbance! We were glad to move on as Black Rock although in an enviable position was just not for us.

"Interesting location"

The hotel itself is in an interesting location. We had a trail studio. The "sea view" was partial. The room itself was good, although the bed was appallingly soft. When we told them when checking out, they said they knew and would be changing the mattress as soon as possible. No apology though. Ate in the restaurant which was good.
