"Cultural and Cool"
I read about this hotel that was purchased by local First Nations & renovates with a First Nations theme & decided to check it out. Fantastic experience, excellent staff and delicious food. Recommend!
"Excellent place to stay"
This is a first class hotel. Beautiful first nation's theme throughout. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Dining room is well appointed and food is delicious. There is a sports pub as well. Rooms are quiet and well appointed as well. We will definitely stay here again.
"Top Notch Stay in Port Hardy"
The Kwa'lilas Hotel is a newly renovated old hotel property that has been reinvented to an excellent standard. The guest rooms are an ordinary size and configuration but the quality of workmanship in the renovations is very good, right down to the floor coverings and window trim. The bathroom is nicely designed, with a large walk in shower (no tub). Very comfortable (quite firm) beds. Large flat screen LG television (TV reception is not HD clarity but maybe that's the case in Port Hardy?). The First Nation artwork in the guest rooms and the common areas (lobby, restaurant etc) is beautiful. The front desk staff was welcoming, helpful and efficient. The breakfast is a "grab n go" style continental affair - hot and cold drinks, yogurt, pastries, muffins, small selection of cereal etc. Not fancy but sufficient for sure. There is very little seating in the little breakfast room but guests were welcome to sit in the lobby area if they wanted to "grab" but not "go" yet. The restaurant, Ha'me, was wonderful. Our party shared some appetizers, and amongst us had halibut, hot smoked wild salmon, and beef burger main courses. All delicious. Service was very good. We would definitely stay again!!
"Excellent value for money"
I understand that this First Nations-owned hotel has recently been completely refurbished. In fact, it felt as if it was brand new. Everything about it was high quality and excellent value for money. My only niggle was discovering that breakfast was a Holiday Inn Express type experience, with a very limited selection and not even anywhere to sit down! That's they only thing that stops me giving it a 5 star rating.
"Stunning one of kind hotel"
This hotel is unique and you really need to see it first hand to appreciate the fine workmanship and attention to detail that has gone in to its beautiful decor. The common areas are spacious, bright and welcoming. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The cuisine in the restaurant is really good and includes the best seafood chowder I have ever tasted. The pub is nice and the same attention to detail is evident there. The rooms are the same, the beds are perfect (I really wanted to accidentally pack the pillows but I didn't) and the rooms are thoughtfully supplied with amenities to guarantee a comfortable stay. First Nations art decorates the walls and the copper artwork in the lobby is stunning. Words are inadequate when one feels as if they have been warmly welcomed in to this very special space.
