Voor de kust zijn dikwijls walvissen te zien. "West Coast Vibes"
Beautiful apartment style hotel. Tub on the deck, with amazing west coast views. The living room window make it look like you are on a houseboat, all you can see is ocean (hence, "water's edge")! Stayed in a two bedroom with sofa bed. Downside is that they don't have high speed internet- but they were in the process of upgrading. The room wasn't ready when we arrived, after check in time, and they didn't compensate. Recommend going to the hands on aquarium and the hikes in the area during the day.
This was our second time staying at Water's Edge. Great condos, clean and friendly staff. We loved it so much we are going back again. We bring our fur family as there are a few designated pet friendly rooms. Ucluelet has much to offer. The Co-op is a great place to load up on groceries for your stay. Howlers Restaurant has great food and close to Water's Edge. Awesome trails and hikes in area! Ucluelet is a must visit for all...
"A true Westcoast experience"
Stayed 4 nights. Front office staff where very friendly and helpful right down to tips on filling the hot tub. Did the Groupon thing and our stay was amazing. Suite had full kitchen including blender and wine glasses , tea towels and dishwasher soap- didn't miss anything. Hot tub was perfect for 2, overlooking inlet, seals going by. Very comfy bed, fireplace in living room. Excellent Co-op Grocery stores in both Ucluelet and Tofino, with everything incl prepared food if you don't want to cook too much. Weather cooperated & rained like the dickens , and the waves were great. Totally awesome and fun, did all the beaches, bog, lighthouse & more. Don't go unless you plan to get wet this time of year- rubber boots, raincoat and rain pants so you can have fun beach combing. Had a blast watching surfers, must have been 100 of them. You just have to look for all the parked cars to find where the waves are best that day. Ate at Shelter in Tofino twice- excellent fish tacos. Hanks BBQ was good too. Will stay at Water's Edge here again for sure.
"Great Place to Stay"
We went with another couple and stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite. Our suite did not have a hot tub on the deck like some of them did, but that was not a high priority for us. It was nice to have our own kitchen where we could prepare our meals to save on costs. We prepared the main part of our dinners ahead of time so we just reheated and cooked the easier stuff there. Kitchen was well equipped with full-size fridge, stove, microwave, dishwasher and a full-size coffee pot. The staff at the front desk assured us that if there was ANYTHING we needed, to just ask; they likely had it for us to use. Keep in mind if you are going with more than 2 people, we found the seating in the living room could have one more comfy chair to sit on. There is a couch and one recliner. The staff we very friendly and very informative, giving us a complete rundown of everything to see and where to eat in the area. They had copies of the menus to look at for all the restaurants in the area. They also had rain gear to borrow if we needed it. We had expected wet weather to we did have our own. The purpose of our trip was to do some storm watching and at the same time, enjoying a weekend get-away with our good friends. We had dinner one nite at Hank's BBQ based on good reviews. We were not disappointed. I was so looking forward to having Fish 'n Chips at Jiggers but they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. This wasn't mentioned in the information I read, so we missed that one. A good excuse to return to Ucluelet and do it all again! We drove to Tofino and stopped at several beaches on our way back to Ucluelet. I also highly recommend Amphitrite Lighthouse to check out the many views if the crashing waves. Spectacular!
"Wonderful Place, Couple Negative Experiences"
My husband and I booked Water's Edge over the Thanksgiving weekend, and we were very excited to stay there for two relaxing nights. I had made my booking through Booking.com, and had sent a request to Water's Edge, asking for an above-ground unit and one that faces the inlet, opposed to the marina. We had this grand vision of sitting in our deck tub and staring at nature. The hotel responded within a day, saying that they had indeed booked us on an upper floor, but there was no mention of the view from the room. We arrived on Saturday around 2pm, and the young woman at the front desk was such a delight. She was excited, enthusiastic and helpful. She checked us in, gave us some maps, and pointed out a couple of attractions and restaurants. Upon getting to our room, we were happy to see that it was beautifully furnished and clean. However, the view was one of the marina, and not only that, since we were so far over the side, it was mostly of a parking lot. Normally, I'm pretty chill, but I was upset, because we had been looking forward to our "romantic weekend" getaway... and that didn't include staring at a broken patch of concrete. My husband, amazing guy that he is, phoned the front desk, and asked if there was any chance that we could be moved to a room with an inlet view as we had requested. He mentioned that we had specifically asked for this, and the staff mentioned that since we had booked through Booking.com, the requests often never come through and aren't seen by the Water's Edge. However, I knew this not to be the case, since I had in fact received a response from them through Booking.com almost immediately. In any case, the staff worked hard to see if there was another available room that we could move to. I hoped that it would work out, as it was early and there seemed to be very few people arriving at the resort at this point. There was no such luck, and while I am very grateful to the staff for searching for us, my husband gently pointed out that we were a bit disappointed. We had paid $250 a night, and we have never spent that much money on a hotel, and probably never will again. This was a rare treat for us and we were anticipating spending hours in the tub, now with a view of a parking lot. That evening, we enjoyed a wonderful soak in the tub. Very few people seemed to be out in their tubs that night, so we enjoyed hours of relaxing quiet and looking up at the stars. The tubs really are fantastic. They are large, deep, and for the first two uses, we had amazing hot water. They fill up fast, and you really can enjoy an entire evening reading, sipping champagne, or star gazing. The next evening, we were again out in the tub around 8pm, when we noticed two guys walking along the docks at the marina. They seemed to know exactly where they were going, and when we watched them confidently step on to a boat that was moored at the end of the dock closest to us, we dismissed them as the owners. About ten minutes later, an alarm went off, and the two guys hustled out of the boat, and strolled non-nonchalantly out of the marina and up the street. We then realized they had been breaking into the boat. The alarm continued to blare.... forever. Needless to say, our relaxing time in the tub was over. the guy next door even came out of his unit and called out to his friends back inside, "Hey guys! There's an alarm going off out here! Annoying!" We got out of the tub almost immediately (who can relax with that?) and by the time we went to bed, the alarm was still going. It was so irritating that we had to close the windows in the entire unit, and it was uncomfortably hot all night. We barely slept at all because of the heat and because we could still hear the alarm going off. We finally had to put some calming music on to try and drown out the noise while sleeping. I couldn't help but think that if we'd been granted an inlet view we would still be enjoying our tub and sleeping soundly. The next morning, the alarm was STILL going off. Finally, around 8am or so, it finally died, and I was very excited to hop out of bed and use the tub one last time. Unfortunately, the hot water wasn't working anywhere in the unit. My husband and I tried to warm up the water by boiling pots full of it, but it took forever and we never managed to warm up the massive tub in the slightest. Very disappointing. I'm giving Water's Edge 4 stars because I know that most people have an wonderful experience, and if not for this unfortunate circumstance, I know we would have. The staff and units are amazing. Everything is designed for comfort, and the fireplace is fantastic. The tubs are divine, even if we only had 1/3 enjoyable/successful uses. I really hope to come back one day, as it's rare to find a place with private deck tubs, and that was what drew us. I really don't like writing negative reviews, but I felt so strongly about the time spent here, that I felt it necessary. Unfortunately, the stay didn't happen as we'd envisioned, and we ended up spending $500 on two nights. I left feeling very disappointed and sad, because I know that in different circumstances, we would have found our haven at the Water's Edge.
