Vancouver, de Gateway van de Pacific, is een van de populairste steden ter wereld. En niet voor niets. Vancouver is tevens uitvalsbasis voor een (auto-)reis door het westen van Canada of voor een uitstapje naar Vancouver Island.
"Off Their Game"
We wanted to like this well located "upscale" hotel. We walked in after a long day which included very long hours on a ferry and were exhausted and were met by an extremely loud live rock band in the lobby. We could barely hear the check in guy. We had booked a suite that was described as having a pool view. We assumed it was on a high floor looking down at a pool (they do in fact have suites at a higher level). What it was in fact was a suite with a wall of windows facing the actual small outdoor pool area. Every person going to the pool area could walk by the suite and peer into the rooms if they wanted to unless we would keep the drapes shut at all times. We found out the pool is open from 6 am to 10 pm and decided this was not going to work for us. I didn't want to hear people using the pool and didn't want to smell chlorine. We asked for a different suite or two normal rooms. The man told us it was the only available room in the entire hotel. I did not believe him for a second but he refused to give us any other option at any price. Our exhaustion led us to just take the suite. As it turned out it rained and was overcast during our stay so only about a dozen people used the pool when we were around. Today we could hear the guests who were using it but it didn't wake us up. I am certain that if the weather was better there would be a louder crowd. To get to our suite you get on a side elevator that permanently reeks of cigarettes. Either the staff or rude guests use it as their smoking room. Then you go down a long creepy hallway with low ceilings to get to the suite. The suite itself is fairly large with a large gray tiled bathroom with a small shower and large tub, a bedroom with a king bed (with a tacky lighted art piece above the bed), a small kitchen with no stacked waters in the fridge as you would find in the Andaz in NYC., a small dining table with stained chairs, a sofa couch which coverts to a full/queen bed that the kids said was uncomfortable, two sofa chairs (one with a hole) and a second small bathroom with a small shower. Both toilets are the ancient variety that take a long time to fill back up so you have to wait a long time between flushes. There is a porch outside the sliding glass window with chairs and a gas fireplace. There is no screened door so you risk letting flies and mosquitoes in if you get fresh air. I had to leave the door open as the housekeeping ignored my request not to spray air freshener. Between getting a migraine or being bitten by mosquitoes I had to go with the mosquitoes. I also opened the small window in the bedroom and faced a collection of what looked like black and white mold growing on the inside of the window (I have a photo) so I closed it back up. Gross. Housekeeping also ignored my request to leave the decorative pillow off of the bed and they accidentally turned on the alarm clock which woke us up this morning. Other than the above it has to be said that we slept well on all the nights here. Room service was good when we ordered breakfast. The breakfast downstairs was good. They catered to allergies. The hotel provides umbrellas and bikes if you need them. I would not return however as I can't deal with rooms with air freshener.
"Over the top excellent until the final hour"
we had a wonderful stay and this would have been 5+ rating. However, my son wanted a soft plushy bathrobe. So while trying to donate $$ on a bath robe we did not need- it took 6 phone calls and frustration to give them money and get the appropriate size robe we needed. Sushi was wonderful. Entertainment was excellent. Bell service top notch. With the nuisance experienced trying to get the bathrobe I would have expected some type of apology but there was none. We were bounced around and transferred to housekeeping and had to repeat the request over and over. Unfortunate but nonetheless- excellent room, bedding, etc
Spectacular, modern hotel in perfect location with wonderful service and spectacular dining. Truly one of the best hotels in Vancouver or anywhere else for that matter. Conveniently located in a scenic section near the waterfront
The hotel is beautiful and modern. The rooms are large and the beds are comfortable. The location is walking distance to almost anything with amazing views of the water and even the cruise ships. But the best part about the hotel is the staff. The staff were friendly. Helpful and made us feel special. Wish we could have stayed longer. The breakfast is very expensive. Find breakfast somewhere else if you can.
According to my experience. This place is a Great and fancy hotel. Super expensive but each penny worth it. 100% recommended for one special night/occasion. Location is a gem and service is the first line
