"Rooms are tired "
The lobby is renovated rooms need attention . Very budget , rooms need a definite update Rooms are furnished in an 80’s style furniture , fully equipped but everything is old. Front desk staff is very helpful. Impossible to get a taxi in the mornings
Beds are very comfortable, room separated from living space, great kitchenette, dish washer, tv in both rooms. No need to look for a laundromat as each room has access to their own laundry machines. Guest services are accommodating to your needs. View of both city and depending on which side you are on you could see the water from your room. Access to the stores of choice also quick access to delicious restaurants. Shopping malls and theatres not to far away also.
"Wouldn't stay again. Hotel isn't upfront about it's dated and tired-looking rooms."
I should preface this review by saying that Vancouver is obviously expensive, and it's hard to compare prices for hotels in Vancouver, especially downtown with anywhere else. However, my partner and I booked to stay at the Sandman Suites on Davie Street as our accommodation during a month of travels to various cities in Canada. We were keen to book a hotel that offered suites with full kitchen facilities and additionally the option to use laundry facilities within the room too. First impressions are mixed. The area itself, Davie Street, felt unsafe. We were aware before booking that Davie Street was home to the city's LGBT nightlife - and as a gay couple, we didn't mind this, although it wasn't of interest to us. However, the area felt a little scary, there's some very odd characters roaming the streets in the later hours of the day - so when we first arrived quite late from our flight, to try and grab some food, we didn't have a positive experience when looking for food options. It should be mentioned though that in the daytime this area was fine, and felt much safer. The hotel however looked promising at first. A very clean, modern looking lobby and reception area. Staff were friendly and efficient at checking us in. The first impression was quickly dampened though after making our way to our room. It was like stepping in to a different hotel. A much more dated, worse for wear hotel. The suite we were in was a one bedroom suite. The bedroom was quite cramped and the design of the suite was as such that the air con and heater unit for the whole suite was located in the bedroom, and so to heat up the 'sitting room' area, you had to rely on the air flow making its way through the bedroom door and the small panel gap that had been installed in the wall. The unit was loud and rickety and furthermore, as it was positioned directly underneath the window, it meant that during the night, if it was switched on, it blew the curtains (which were barely hanging up correctly) upwards - therefore brought light in to the room during the early hours of the morning. The kitchen was as basic as could be with appliances that looked like they were bought in the 1960s. There was very basic utensils and small-sized crockery. The shower in the bathroom was not in a suitable working order, it had an unusual fixture to the top of the shower and it didn't work correctly, so we ended up having to crouch under the shower head to get it to work, as the adjustable holder for the shower head wouldn't stay in place. The decor of the suite on the whole was very dated and to be honest, the photos shown on the website show the rooms in a much more positive way as our room did not look like what was advertised at all. It may be that some of the rooms had been refurbished, but if that was the case, then it should have been made clear to us at check-in that we were being given an older room - it's not what we had booked, and so I felt like we had been tricked. We considered several times leaving early and moving on to a different hotel. Positives I can say about the hotel are that the parking was adequate, the wifi was reliable, the ice machine was useful and the in-suite laundry facilities were invaluable. Other than that, I really didn't enjoy my stay at the hotel and wouldn't intend to stay again until it's rooms are fully refurbished.
"Great Stay in the heart of Vancouver"
Stayed here for one night with the family. Dog friendly suites, very clean and the kitchenette is great. Check in was fast and the staff were very helpful. We stayed on a high floor and were treated to an amazing view of Vancouver. Good value for downtown Vancouver especially if travelling with family and/or pets.
Like others have said this hotel has a very handy downtown location on Davie St. Minutes walk from lots of shops restaurants and the fun bars of Davie Street! If you get a west facing room you can enjoy amazing sunset views. The kitchens are perfect for preparing light meals.
