"Hotel in the heart of Vancouver"
Stayed here for a few days with the family and it is an average hotel. Located across the street from BC Place and in the heart of Vancouver, everything is easily accessible by walking. Has a fun sports bar and a good restaurant attached to the hotel. Elevators are unbelievably slow so be prepared to wait. Rooms are quite small and cramped, as are the bathrooms. Walls are very thin, so noise between rooms is an issue. Could hear the family next door holding a conversation and exactly what they were watching on tv, and I don't think they had it turned up very loud. Lots of street noise and sirens, so ask for the highest floor possible when getting a room. Parking at the hotel is terrible. If you have a larger SUV or truck, you will not be able to fit it in the underground parking and you'll be paying 20$+ a day for lot parking across the street or behind the hotel. I'd think twice about staying here again.
"Average hotel with an excellent duty manager "
An average hotel given the price. The location is good. However the room a bit dusty and a/c a bit noisy. Housekeeping ladies are helpful and they brought me kettle and other items as requested. I’d like to thank the duty manager Mr Gopal Johan. He offered to help when I asked help for printing. I sent him all my tickets for travelling to the NY city. Despite a number of emails that I sent with confusing headings and incorrect formats, he was very patient in sorting them out until all were correct. Really appreciate it!!
"Very Pleasant STay"
Well...the reviews were not stellar, but we were transferred to the Sandman after a flood at the YWCA Hotel, so we didn't have time to investigate other options and decided to just go with it. The staff at the Sandman were pleasant and helpful, and when I explained that I had a medical issue and needed to have access to a microwave to heat up a neck warmer, one was delivered to our room immediately. A kettle was also provided, because, seriously, you can't make a good cup of tea in those little coffee makers - it always tastes like coffee. The location was perfect for us, as we were going to a game at Rogers Arena just two blocks away. The nightclub did not disturb us, and the room was very clean. The only complaint I would have is - that despite the sign in the bathroom indicating to hang up your towels if you wish to reuse them, there was NO towel rack in the bathroom. Nowhere to put a used towel, except to hang it on the shower rod, which is not convenient for the next person taking a shower. So to conclude, clean, comfortable and accommodating all around. We dealt sternly with the minor hockey team in the next room ourselves at midnight (who understandably were excited about meeting the Sedin brothers, but really - who lets their kids run around hotel halls at midnight, while the chaperones drink beer?) and didn't bother complaining to the front desk. To the hotel I would just suggest a microwave might be a standard perk in all the rooms, I am sure many people would be happy to have one. Congrats on a good job.
I was given a key to a room already in use and walked in on someone sleeping. This could have been dangerous if I didn't run out quickly. The hotel had lots of drunk people in it. The room could be updated as well.
"Location is good, but that's all"
I stayed at this hotel over a two pre-booked visits in November and if I hadn't had the second booking then I would have gone elsewhere. It didn't start of well when I arrived at the Vancouver airport and called them to let them know that I was there for the shuttle, only to be advised that the City Centre location doesn't have a shuttle, only the airport one does. This is despite me having asked this question via email weeks before hand where I received the response that yes they do have a shuttle and just to call them. I still have that email and it clearly states I was going to the city center location. I caught a cab. On arrival, there was a big song and dance about storing some luggage between visits. The front desk response was "I have to check with my manager and let you know" I had to follow that request up again later, when the response was "yes, oh sorry I guess I forgot to let you know". When I came to leave luggage it was clear that they had tags and everything to allow it, so why it was so hard escapes me. Both the rooms that I had were very tired with barely acceptable bathrooms. The fridge in the first room didn't work. After 3 requests it was replaced with another, but it was set so cold that it froze anything that was put in there. The curtains in the second one were falling off their hooks, the TV didn't work and the plug in the bathroom sink didn't go anywhere near closing the hole. The TV issues were resolved and the curtains re-hung eventually - but why should a guest have to bring these obvious things to the attention of the hotel? Upon my my final checkout the staff member asked if my stay was OK (this didn't happen the first time). I told her no and listed all things that had gone wrong. She gave me the briefest apology and offered the managers card so that I could contact them directly the next time I stayed. I let her know that I will NEVER set foot in another Sandman hotel again. As others have said, the location to stadiums is great and if you're overnighting then it would be OK, but unless you want to put up with sub-standard facilities and constantly pester staff to get anything done, go elsewhere.
