"Beautiful Location, fantastic service"
I organized a 2 day meeting and guest rooms at the Inn at Laurel Point in October 2016. The hotel is right on the Harbour, with a lovely view from the guest rooms and meeting rooms. There is a path right outside the front door to walk all around the Harbour, it is a short walk to the Empress and the parliament building. There is also a water taxi stop a short walk away. Parking was secure (card access, covered). The staff at Laurel Point were very friendly and professional. The rooms were modern and very comfortable, with nice extra touches like robes, a kettle as well as coffee maker, fridge, and two arm chairs. My room had a balcony, not sure if all do. The meeting room was lovely, and the catering was some of the best I have had, with gourmet and healthy options. They did a great job catering to the special dietary needs of our group. I would highly recommend this hotel.
"A Few Notches Short of Perfect"
There is so much about this hotel that I love: it has an amazing location, the views of the inner or outer harbour are stunning, the staff are friendly as can be and always very obliging. In fact, in some of my reviews of other hotels I've said that the true measure of a great hotel is how they respond to problems, and the staff at this hotel respond quickly and thoughtfully to problems. So, why not five starts? There are problems that need to be responded to. Rooms with an interior adjoining door, even when the door is closed tightly, are subjected to noise coming through the interior door -- when I reported that I couldn't sleep because the couple in the next room were having a normal conversation, a bellman came right up, showed me another room without an interior door, and helped us move. Also, they allow meetings to take place in rooms on the guest floors after hours -- when we finished supper one night, there was a meeting going on a few doors down from us, and there was spillover into the corridor, where people were drinking and arguing. Again, a call to the front desk brought quick resolution. Part of the problem, I believe, is that the hotel is made of concrete -- floors, walls, ceilings -- and not enough effort has been made to mediate the sound bouncing between rooms and up and down corridors. One last issue -- On the tables in the restaurant there was a card advertising "breakfast with Beethoven", a benefit where classical musicians would entertain those having breakfast; we came to breakfast really looking forward to this, but instead there was some rock on the PA system. I asked about Beethoven, and all I got were shoulder shrugs -- "I don't know anything about that", "I've been off for two days and never have seen those signs before", and even at the front desk, "that was organized by the restaurant...". So nobody knew, or even picked up the phone to try to find out. This was the only moment when the staff was less than 100% perfect; they are incredibly helpful, respectful, thoughtful, willing to go the extra step when needed. This is still one of my two favorite Victoria hotels.
"In need of refurbishment"
Although this is rated as a 4 star hotel, we had what I consider a 3 star room. The worst item in this tired hotel room was the pillows. They were so worn out and inadequate that housekeeping plumps them up inside the pillowcase and tightly tucks the then half empty case around the pillow so that it is the size of half a standard pillow on a king size bed. They were well beyond the end of life. the bed was hard, an old style basic hard mattress. There was no makeup mirror. There was fake "milk" for tea and coffee. But the item that really led to discomfort and most frustration with room was the pillows. When we checked out we were not asked how was your stay, unusual, so I had to mention the pillows unprompted. She said there were extra pillows, but indeed there were not.
"Looking for a coffee station with complimentary coffee?"
Looking for a coffee station? It's in the lounge, ie the Live-Inn Room on the first floor for registered guests. It's next to the restaurant and has a large tv on. You can't see the coffee station unless you go inside the room.
"Superb Hotel, Location and City!"
The hotel is located in a quiet area that is only a few minutes walk to the heart of downtown Victoria. Loved the kind staff and lovely view from our Harbour View room Very clean and the bed was soooo very comfortable. We stayed for 4 nights and did not want to leave. Victoria is a beautiful, friendly city. If you have never been there I highly recommend making plans to visit and stay at this hotel
