"Very nice hotel and pet friendly"
This was our first stay. We chose the hotel because it is pet friendly and we were traveling with our small dog. The room was very nice and very clean (Harbor view) and quiet. We enjoyed walking on the trails outside the hotel beside the harbor. It is a very easy walk to downtown and the Empress and BC Museum area. Unfortunately the deck area for the restaurant is not dog friendly. :( We did enjoy some tasty breakfasts via room service. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We plan to stay here again when we next visit Victoria.
"Oasis of serenity."
This hotel is ideally located; walking distance to restaurants, museums and ferries. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Victoria is a busy little town with 100's of tourists every where so walking back at the end of a day to the peace and serenity of this hotel was a pleasure. The views of the marina were awesome. This hotel has it all.
"Great location & beautiful views and rare sit-out balconies"
Great hotel, location, views, rooms, service. All staff members were polite and helpful throughout our stay, without being pretentious. Ask for a room in the Erickson wing - newer, very large, with a small fridge, and balconies with patio furniture so you can sit out and enjoy the views. Very few hotels in Victoria have balconies to sit out and enjoy the weather and views. The hotel is an easy walk from the harbour and all restaurants, as well as fisherman's wharf. The discounts offered by the hotel on local attractions and activities were great; we did the Off the Eaten Track culinary tour - it was fantastic. The Japanese garden was beautiful and serene.
"Nothing negative but nothing outstanding either"
We stayed in a harbour view room in the Laurel wing this past weekend. I can't say that we were blown away by this hotel. There was absolutely nothing negative about it - the room was nice and clean and a nice size, the view was nice, service was good. The staff wished me a happy birthday at the front desk and said they put us in a room on the top floor, which I assume was in honour of that. But nothing really wowed us either. The little touches we've come to expect from hotels who are working hard to impress, things like a couple of bottles of water in the room, fluffy towels and a higher end showerhead were lacking. The balcony was small, but could have accommodated one chair at least, so you could better enjoy it. The linens were nice but the bed wasn't the same level of comfort you'd expect from a higher end room. I fully admit that I knew going in that I had booked the Laurel wing, which is not their more upscale rooms. I'm also well acquainted with Victoria room prices in the summer, so I know that you generally pay outrageous amounts to stay in the harbour at that time of year. Still, for a $400 room, it didn't seem like the hotel did much to wow us. I would liken it more to the experience of staying at an Executive Inn business hotel, or a higher end Best Western, than a luxury hotel. Still, as I said, there was nothing specifically negative about our stay. We really enjoyed the walk on the David Foster Harbour Walkway that goes around the front of the hotel. We hadn't walked that section of the walkway before and it was very nice. The restaurant was also great, and I really appreciated the opportunity for advance check in the day before online. We received a text when our room was ready, and when I was checking it at 3:30pm, our room was ready. The three people ahead of me in line all had rooms that weren't yet available, so I definitely recommend taking advantage of the online check in system. We also appreciated the fast wifi. All in all a pleasant stay, but we probably would have been fine with our original hotel, which was $100 cheaper. This was a birthday splurge, and I can't say it quite lived up to expectations.
We had a large room right on the waterfront. Very comfortable bed and well fitted bathroom. Staff were extremely helpful and the breakfasts were excellent. Easy walk into Victoria centre or catch a water taxi across the harbour.
