"Amazing Snowy Christmas Getaway, with Wonderful Hospitality!"
This review of one of our most memorable vacations is long overdue! We came for the snow, and would recommend Nakiska for so many more reasons! It was our first Christmas together away from our families, and the only place that could GUARANTEE a white Christmas was Nakiska. Lars and Aida are the most lovely and hospitable hosts! Our stay started with us getting our little hybrid stuck in the snow at the bottom of their driveway and Lars hopped in his truck and hauled us out in minutes! They showed us to our cozy cabin, complete with a kitchenette and a bottle of local wine waiting for us! We loved the loft-style cabin, and the fact that we had our own wood-burning stove! It was so cool to be on a working farm! Aida showed us their horses, and Lars showed us the newborn piglets and mamma pig! We really enjoyed the property itself, and hiked through the snowy pines on their property. The next day we explored Wells Gray Provincial Park and following the recommendations from Lars and Aida, saw two absolutely stunning waterfalls! All was amazing until our tiny car ran out of battery, and we spent our Christmas Eve keeping warm in the car by dancing and telling each other stories...until Lars came and rescued us once again in his truck! We couldn't believe Lars and Aida had interrupted their own Christmas Eve dinner to check on us, and upon finding us missing, drove out to save us! We arrived back at our warm cabin before the stroke of midnight, and I made our Christmas Eve meal which we enjoyed by our crackling fire, in front of our very own, fresh cut Christmas tree! The day of our departure, we felt we were saying goodbye to long-time friends! Lars and Aida prepared us a delicious traditional Scandinavian breakfast, and we laughed about all the mishaps and thanked them for their hospitality. Thank you SO much for our most memorable Christmas, Lars and Aida! We can't wait to come back! Pura Vida, Camille and Niels (@CoupleaWanderers) (Visited Dec 2013)
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The beds were good and the cabins decently stocked. The biggest complaint was the cleanliness. There were many dead flies on the floor, dead mice in traps, mice droppings, the floors were not cleaned in general, the walls/doors have not been cleaned/painted recently. The cabins need a good cleaning and some painting. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
"A great place for R and R ( and a great steak)"
Arriving at Nakiska Ranch is a bit of a test....... it is a working Ranch and initial impressions confirm this! We began to wonder why we had booked three nights here....but on meeting our host Lars our initial reticence disappeared. He is a larger than life character having bought the Ranch some 7 years ago with his wife Aida and have turned it into a fantastic place to stay. The accommodation is in cabins which are generous comfortable clean and warm. Ours had a balcony small kitchen area, shower room and large seating/relaxing area. The internet is Satellite based and as such is intermittent and there is no TV in the room ....not a problem for us. The farm area has seating and walking areas with lovely views of fields and mountains. They have number of dogs and a wolf pup(!). Method in the apparent madness is that the pet wolf marks the territory and keeps the wolves away and the other dogs deter the bears! We saw neither during our stay so it must work. The best bit about Nakiska is the food...beautifully cooked me plenty of it. They serve breakfast, plentiful and varietal, and a sumptuous three course dinner at night all of which are different every night. Try to be there for steak....simply delicious and massive! The Okanagan wines which is served is also memorably delicious. If you re in the area please consider this Ranch....you will not be disappointed but book early to avoid disappointment.
Nakiska Ranch is a wonderful cozy place, not least because of the host Lars, who meets us on the terrace with a warmly sounding Danish "welcome". We actually came later than last chekinn time but that was no problem. We were asked if we wanted dinner, the menu was salmon. It is a relatively small place so we were 18 for dinner, starting with the host telling a little about the food and if there are special conditions in and around the national park the following day. There is a good atmosphere at the dinner and it is easy to talk to the other guests. I'll be back if I get the opportunity.
"Friendly working ranch"
We wondered why the agent had booked us in so far from Jasper and were a little concerned about the location and the actual accommodation when we pulled up. However, this was by far the best place we stayed in the whole of our 3 week trip to Canada. Lars - the owner - made breakfast and dinner every day. He made us very welcome and the food was absolutely amazing. All guests who stay have the option to eat there, or not. We chose to eat in. And we are so happy we did. The cabin itself was comfortable with a very comfy bed, giving us a good night's sleep each night. There are four dogs at the property - all very friendly. The were brilliant and never bothered anyone at all. One - Loca - is a wolf and by far the most cuddly creature imaginable. Loved our stay, and would definitely stay again.
