Over Telegrafo Hotel

"Convenient, clean and comfortable "

   01-09-2017
We had a lovely big room - far bigger than we needed - with a bathroom, a sitting area and a second toilet separate to the bedroom area. It was really clean, cool thanks to the air con, and the massive bed was surprisingly comfortable. We had two TV's which had English speaking channels. A good addition would have been a pillow extra each but we managed. The 'main bathroom' has slowly been upgraded over time, and was good despite first appearances. Only negative of the room was that some of the light bulbs needed to be replaced so it was a little dark in the evenings! The hotel lobby is nice, the bar has quick service but lacks atmosphere. They charge 3 cuc for a bottle of water but can get it round the street for 1.50 - would be nice if they provided a bottle of water a day free of charge to each room. The breakfast was good, had plenty for everyone (and I'm vegetarian), my only negative here was on our first morning to breakfast I saw a small cockroach run along the table top where the bread is kept - but not much the hotel can do about this, just made me feel a bit ill and question which bread roll I picked up. There was always staff downstairs so felt safe walking in late at night. There are lots of taxi drivers and 'classic' cars outside the front door. Within a couple of minutes you can get to where you need to be in Havana on foot, and the hop on hop off bus stops just over the road. Two big negatives for me: 1. If you need the toilet after breakfast best going back to the room as feel pressured to 'pay' to use the one in the bar - think this should be free to guests but understand that's hard as fandoms come to sit in the lobby to use the wifi. This is my second point, wherever you go in Cuba a wifi card is 1.50 cuc an hour for internet which is the national price. They charge 4.50 cuc an hour! So pocketing the extra 3 cuc? I don't understand how they could justify it really, it just makes it inconvenient to guests to go out walking to find cheaper wifi - and water - elsewhere. Overall, would really recommend. We stayed 5 nights and had a good nights sleep each night :)

"Well located"

   30-08-2017
The hotel it self is very basic and we did have to complain of the shower in our children's room hanging off the wall. They were roomed else where straight away. The hotel is located in Central Park where everything is easily walkable. The internet cards cost 4.50 cuc per hour.

"Great location - not utilised"

   07-08-2017
This hotel has a lot of things going for it - the location is probably the top of the pile. Handsomely occupying a corner spot on one of the busiest and most vivacious squares in Havana - close to so many attractions and places. Stunning architecture inside and out, great air-con and spacious rooms and public areas. The staff are helpful, plentiful and eager to make you feel welcome. Unfortunately - the Telegrafo fails to make the most of these assets. Had an exciting night out full of laughter, music and atmosphere? Dont worry - the Telegrafo is ready and willing to suck any remaining joy left within you with its cold, quiet and empty space devoid of any of the things Havana is so proud of. Been entertained by countless bars, restaurants and hotels playing music with live bands, dancing and coloured lights? Dont worry - the one television on at the bar playing a local tv programme fronted by a stern looking man in uniform will round your evening off nicely. Rooms are kept clean but bathrooms are in a pretty poor state of repair. Rusty and leaking roofs without handtowels and a pretty pathetic fixed-nozzle shower in the small bath. Trying to get out without injuring yourself on the wet tiled floor was a daily highlight. We ate one meal there on the first night and decided to not do that ever again. Come on Telegrafo - make the most of the wonderful space, location and people you have there. Get some moodier lighting and music on in the evening and get a new head chef and things would improve vastly. Also being able to pay by debit/credit card would be a lovely touch too.

"Great location but expensive for what you get"

   07-08-2017
The hotel is extremely well located, in the "parque central". The rooms are large but those with windows to the internal courtyard are dark and the windows don't open. We stayed twice in July and August, in 2 different rooms and in both having a shower is a nightmare as you only get a small drip of water. The first room also did not have a shower curtain and the bathroom looked like a lake after 3 persons showering. The breakfast buffet has plenty of choice of cold and hot food. I got sick on my first day in Havana, either due to the plane food or the hotel breakfast, but none of the other persons travelling with me had a similar problem. The hotel staff is friendly. Don't exchange money there as the rate is really bad (but they say so in advance). Overall the hotel is ok, but clearly not up for what you pay.

"Perfect"

   02-08-2017
We have just returned from a 3 night stay. This hotel is in the perfect location to wander the streets of Havana, or sit and people watch from the hotel. Listen to the hustle and bustle of the city. You can watch the new merge with the old. The staff are friendly and welcoming, but not always asking if you need anything. The bar is in an indoor courtyard and absolutely beautiful. In the reception area on the tables they have old photos of the hotel and how it has changed over the years. The dining room has a high ceiling. This hotel has air conditioning throughout so is pleasant after the heat of the city. We booked bed and breakfast at the hotel, there was the usual choice of food, cereals, fruit, juice, cold meats and cheese or cooked breakfast. We did eat dinner on one evening, we opted to sit outside, we had one of the special offers and opted for the pork. Our daughter is vegetarian so she had two side dishes one vegetable rice and the other was a pasta dish. Our room was comfortable with plenty of room, it was clean and over looked the bar and on the second floor. It was in a nice quite area. The hotel also exchanged your £'s for Cuban Pesos. We are already planning to return and this would be our choice of hotel again.
