Over Telegrafo Hotel

"There must be better places than this"

After having stayed at a vert nice and friendly all inclusive it was somewhat a chock to come this hotel. The staf was among the snottiest and sour personalities I have ever met. So stuck up that we acutely laught at them. Their services mind was left somewhere else. Ghe only staf I saw smiling was the the male receptionist on our last day. The room maid smiled alsaw. The rooms was very dated and the bathrooms even older. My advice is that you stay somewhere else when you go to Havana. Mind you this is not a budget hotel.

"Not a nice experience"

Hotel looks ok in the lobby/reception area while waiting to check-in and I wondered what all the negative reviews were about. Our room was clean. Air-con was loud and the room too cold so we switched it off. My daughter could not switch her air-con off in her room, the controller was broken .Some of the electrical sockets in both rooms didn't work. We were both bitten by mosquitoes during the first night. Bathroom had mould around the bath and the shower was at best warm. Not the sort of bathroom you would fancy taking a relaxing bath. We stayed 4 nights half board. Food in general lacking freshness, the dining room table cloths and chair coverings had many stains and creases, the staff didn't look interested - Breakfast buffet not good and Evening meals not much better. Mainly sliced meats with canned Vegetables and rice. We had chips one night as we did not like the taste of the rice they arrived luke warm. Another night we were told the chips had finished. On our third night my wife ordered the chicken and instead of the usual sliced chicken - what turned up I would describe as a spatchcocked chicken leg with half the bone and lots of fatty skin attached, there was a little meat underneath, so I swapped my pork dish with hers as I don't mind leg meat. During the early hours I became ill. I stayed in bed all the following day (New years eve and my wife's birthday) with frequent visits to the bathroom, as well as my stomach feeling bruised I ached all over. Another English couple we met in the hotel kindly passed on some tablets which helped a lot. After 24 hrs I started to feel better and luckily we were checking out. After check out we had an hour to wait for a transfer to Varadero. With no room in the hotel lobby, we sat on the terrace where a waiter came up and wanted us all to buy a drink on account the terrace was open to the public. I told him we were staying in the hotel and I pointed to other available seats if people off the street wanted to sit and have a drink. Saying no we did not want a drink, he went off in a huff waving his arms and muttering something. On arrival in our Varadero hotel the friendly staff said "welcome to paradise" and compared to the Telegrafo they were not wrong and we won't be returning!!!

"Badly in need of a makeover"

Booked this hotel for two x 2 night stays at either end of a round Cuba cruise based primarily on its prime location on Havana's Central Park and its TripAdviser rating of 8th best hotel in the city. On the first it did not disappoint but on every other aspect this place is pretty awful. It is certainly not the advertised 4* standard and the self advertised "recent" refurbishment certainly doesn't apply to the rooms - bedrooms were comfortable enough and clean, with functional air con and double glazing, but the bathrooms were pretty dire with no plugs (so no bath possible in either our designated rooms or the 3 alternatives I looked at), damaged toilet seats and no hot water on first stay, although that had been fixed when we came back. Lots of water leaks, stains on carpets and mould on walls. Included breakfast was not really worth having - poor choice and quality and practically non-existent service, despite presence of half a dozen staff. Public areas lacked any kind of atmosphere and bar could do a gin but no tonic. I really wouldn't recommend this to anyone as value for money. Only reason we went back was because we couldn't get a refund and, being Xmas / New Year period all other hotels were full. (We did visit a number of these so can't put the Telegrafo standards down to "that's just Cuba" as they were excellent)

"A place to sleep but that's it."

I've never met ruder personell, I would never return to this place. Also, moldy bathroom, cockroaches both in our room and in the breakfast area. We actually booked another hotel which sent us on to this one.

Nice Hotel in a really central place in Havana, you can easly reach every point from there on foot without wasting a lot of money getting a taxi. A little disappointing room though: beds are not so confortable and not perfectly clean. Good breakfast, not so brilliant but we enjoyed it. The hotel itself can sell you internet cards at a lower price that somewhere else in Havana and, according to me, the hotel internet spot is one of the best in all of Havana. Best choise if you need a central place in Havana.
