Over Telegrafo Hotel

"Great Location"

   17-04-2017
We were due to stay here for three nights from 01st April as a group of six. However when we arrived at the hotel from the airport, we were at the NDC which is a 5* hotel just out of town. We didn't complain but it would have been useful to have been informed of this rather than just dropped somewhere else. We were told the Telegrafo was 'closed' by out taxi driver, and that we were to stay at the NDC. We did get to stay here for one night on 14th April before flying home. The building itself is impressive with a great design inside and out and in the perfect location, right in the heart of Havana with easy walking to most sights. Check-in fairly quick for Cuban standards and the rooms were nice, no complaints at all with a great view over the main street. Breakfast was a nice welcome change from the all inclusive buffets in Varadero. Nice selection of most things and eggs cooked on request. We had two issues with our stay, the first being that there was no complimentary water in the room and the mini bar has expensive bottles to buy but with a cap and no bottle opener supplied. Come on guys its the small things that count. Our second bigger issue was with the service at the bar at around 10.30pm. We had been for food and six of us fancied a night cap. We sat at the bar for at least ten minutes with staff milling around and chatting but no one came to serve. After ten minutes another guest joined the bar then several minutes later a barman appeared and went to serve the other guest, I pointed out we had been waiting ages but he then said I'll be with you shortly. Ordered our drinks finally, our friends then joined us and one asked for a glass of red wine, we were told that it was finished and we could buy a bottle for 18CUCS. I pointed out the we had just been served one and suggested he could open a bottle. He said no it's finished. He was very abrupt and we also thought it appeared that he had been drinking himself. It wasn't difficult to open one and then cork it until someone else ordered a glass. Seriously ??. This kind of service is appalling but we found this a lot in Cuba, not all but some. We have scored this hotel on the hotel itself and the room/breakfast. Not for the service. We are not sure if we would stay here again due to this but you never know.

"Closed"

   12-04-2017
Were meant to be staying here on 1st and 2nd of April but arrived at airport to be told it was closed and we had been moved to another hotel. No further explanation given. Very disappointing as we had chosen this hotel for its location.

"Great location in Havana for site seeing however sadly lacking elsewhere"

   30-03-2017
Average hotel (By Cuban standards). Lack of enthusiasm by 'front of house'. Stayed 2 nights, Dinner was very basic however breakfast was better (again by Cuban standards). The room furnishings were worn and dated. As a necessity over mains water quality, would suggest the hotel provides 'bottled' drinking water (FOC).

"Telegraphs Hotel"

   28-03-2017
We stayed four nights at the Telegrapho. It is in a great location and you can easily pass an an hour on the veranda watching people come and go around the square. It is an old hotel and the rooms reflect this (furniture & decor). The beds were comfortable and the rooms were very clean. Our a/c did not work but as we visited in March it wasn't too uncomfortable. The bathroom roof and walls had a lot of black mould on them and they could do with being refurbished, the shower wasn't great either. We had breakfast at the hotel and all the comments I had read on TripAdvisor prior to my visit were true. Fruit, cheese, ham etc not covered and there were flies. We had omelette for breakfast which was made to order and did not eat any of the other food that was on offer. This hotel does not exchange currency and you cannot exchange money at the Park Central Hotel across the road (only for their guests). There are banks within a couple of minutes walk but be prepared to stand in a line for a considerable time to exchange your money. Havana is amazing, a trip in an old American car will cost 40 CUC for an hour, but you could probably barter the price down. We struggled a bit with the food (Cubans do not serve food as hot as we are used to). We did visit the Italian restaurant in the Park Central one evening and would recommend it as the food was excellent.

"Excellent hotel with great views of the old American Cars"

   26-03-2017
We really enjoyed our 4 nights at the Telegrafo. We were able to open our bedroom window an watch all the fantastic American Cars drive past. Once the window was closed, most of the traffic noise was blocked out. The Breakfast provided were quite nice plus there was live music to listen to whilst we were eating. In the evenings the bar was quite relaxing, but the bar staff didn't seem keen to serve us I can recommend the Telegrafo Burger.
