Over Telegrafo Hotel

"Luke warm water , staff and hotel"

   23-05-2017
This hotel is in a great location, very well positioned for seeing the old town. We stayed for 4 nights in May. Lots of issues for the price paid. The staff are unfriendly verging on rude, they appear to think that they are doing you a big favour by answering you! Our room [115] was supposed to have a mirror wardrobe, one half was completely missing, the other was out of its groove, could not be moved, making it impossible to use the drawers. It was also not particularly clean. On the second day our room was not cleaned, I asked for clean towels at 6.00pm. They were not forthcoming, so asked again before breakfast, no apology but there were towels later that day. Do not expect warm water or a bath[no plug]. There is traffic noise from the square but the A/C is noisier and constant. Breakfast was a fly ridden variabe, every day the bread, coffee[weak brown water] ran out for a while. There were 6 different fruits on the buffet, four of them were tinned. Stick to the eggs. Worst of all was the dank smell which pervaded the bar area, you got used to it, but it was not pleasant. Would we stay there again-no way. I cannot understand why hotel gets reasonable reviews.

"Central location"

   22-05-2017
This hotel is situated very well for exploring Old Havana, it is next to the Ingletarra and opposite the Parque Central, right on Parque Central. Our room was a good size, it was all clean and tidy, the maids were very good at keeping it that way, our breakfast was fairly basic but more than adequate, we did not have any problems with flies around breakfast, air conditioning throughout was very good and the staff were polite, all in all a good stay. You can also exchange currency at the front desk.

"Fundamentally decent hotel but the odd issue"

   20-05-2017
We wanted a good quality hotel for our final night in Havana after a fortnight of traveling and staying in casa accommodation. We chose the Telegrafo as it offered best value of the international style hotels. The hotel was generally very good but there were a few minor niggles. The location is excellent, overlooking Parque Centrale where you get all the buzz of the city with the American cabriolets coming and going etc. You are right on the edge of Habana Vieja and at the foot of the Prado. Our room was really very good - large, comfortable and spotlessly clean. We had nr. 314 which is a corner room over the entrance and it was absolutely cavernous. The room was very well-presented in traditional style with a beautifully tiled floor. Sound insulation was very good and, even though we looked out directly onto Parque Centrale, there was no more than a faint buzz of traffic noise. Inside the hotel all was quiet and there was no problem in getting a peaceful night's sleep. Breakfast was well catered for with the following options; fruit juice, fruit (mix of fresh and tinned), cold selection (meat, cheese etc.), hot selection (eggs, sausage, croquettes, French toast etc.), omelette chef, breads, toast, pastries, tea and coffee. The teabags were flavoured (common across Cuba) so we used our own. The only problem with breakfast was a chronic shortage of cups and glasses. Those of us who arrived later in the session were constantly waiting as the staff gathered up used crockery to be washed and re-distributed. The other minor issue we had was the attitude of staff at check-in. We were greeted with a distinct lack of interest by the initial receptionist until a colleague took over who was a little more amenable. The lady on evening duty was very pleasant but I think that the rest of the staff could do with a little training. There is wifi available in reception and 2 computers for use by guests. You need to buy internet carsd to access the wifi which are available from reception at 4.5 CUCs for an hour. I'm pretty sure that this is much more expensive than if you bought a card from an official outlet in the city but whenever we went there were always huge queues. The internet worked but was very slow. If you are hooked on your appliance you will find it hard work in Cuba as the internet facility across the country is something of a challenge.

"Poor staff attitude, good location"

   08-05-2017
The hotel is well placed to visit old Havana, we had a room at the front of the hotel which was quiet and a good size. The poor review was due to uninterested staff, and a poor breakfast service. Of the four days we mornings we stayed, three occasions no cups, glasses or bowls available, food had been on the hot plate for some considerable time and was dried out. The coffee urn was topped up from a plastic bucket. A shame given the location and convenience and in contrast to the other places we visited

"Central hotel location but lacking character "

   06-05-2017
First visit to Cuba and our first three days were spent in Havana at the Telegrafo. The location is very central and bedrooms are perfectly acceptable with decent sized bathrooms. Our bedroom had a small balcony which overlooked the street which was great as there was always something going on (but with doors closed and AC on, it was still quiet enough at night). Only gripe re room was we had to ask for decent size bath towels as they provided us initially with two small guest size towels per person. The bar area in this hotel is completely lacking in ambience or buzz but as you're in the middle of Havana there's plenty of other places to go. We only had bed and breakfast so can't comment on dining at the hotel but based on the breakfast I'd guess it was fairly average Cuban food. Much better I would think to dine in one of the many paladars now open in old Havana as we did. Hotel staff were mixture - some very friendly and helpful, others distinctly lacking in smiles department.
