"Maybe 4 stars when opened back in the days - not anymore"

Looked OK at first, but it quickly became clear that it is like most of Cuba, not maintained at all and today it feels more like an old motel along any road. Very strange service concept where you cannot book anything to your room and have to pay at each place for any extras outside the all inclusive food/drinks. Poorest exchange rates between € and CUC ever and of course, no receipts! Go for a Casa Particulare in Trinidad and just grab a taxi to the beach every day. Cost level is HIGH!

"Endured this hotel"

Trinidad has a shortage of hotel rooms. The only 5 star hotel is the Iberostar and it only has 40 rooms so we had no choice but to go with this 'resort hotel'. I knew it would be bad as soon as our guide said 'everything - food, water and alcoholic drinks are free'. Our room was only adequate. The sheet on my bed didn't even fit. The room safe was broken. We waited for housekeeping to come and look at it and to try and supply 2 batteries but to no avail. I ended up taking all our valuables with us rather than leave them unattended especially with the disclaimer of responsibility if not left in the safe. The food in the main dining hall: breakfast and dinner was dreadful- good for the diet as it really was the lowest quality food imaginable. Wifi is only available in the sweltering lobby - in Havana I merely switched off the wifi access and disconnected from the system. In Trinidad you must physically log off - I discovered this after losing 3+ hours from my wifi card! If you stay for the second night then you can book the special restaurant- only in the morning by the reception desk. This restaurant is above the main dining hall and seats maybe a maximum of 60 persons. The food on offer here is decent - otherwise you have no alternative but to stay in Trinidad and eat there before returning to the hotel.

"Horrible experience from start to finish"

This hotel is absolutely grotesque. I don't even know where to start and I'm finding it very difficult to put into words how bad the place is. We arrived to stay 3 nights in this "all-inclusive hotel". We waited 4 hours in the lobby to check in because there was some mix up with our booking. We were told to have some food while we waited - we could not eat the food it was so bad. Our room was beyond disgusting. The shower didn't work. Lipstick all over the mirrors. Towels were already used. Curtains hanging off the rail. Bugs everywhere. The place is just falling apart everywhere you look. The staff are rude and unprofessional. The beach is dirty. To top it all off, the prices are ridiculously expensive. It's just horrific ..... like something from a horror movie. There was no way we could actually stay the night. We checked back out that same evening and went to stay in a different hotel. I have travelled a lot. I've never experienced anything like this hotel. I can deal with basic. I cannot deal with filth.

"This hotel needs desparate updates to its infrastructure"

When we arrived at the hotel, I initially thought this was a really nice looking hotel and we were going to really enjoy our stay here. Wrong! I should have realized that the water on the hotel's lobby floor which was coming from a leak in the ceiling was a sign that there would be problems. The grounds and pool areas are very nice and well kept and their beach area is wonderful. The problem is with the hotel's rooms and buildings. Many of us had no running water in our rooms and had to be moved to functional rooms. The beds and pillows were like boards. The A/C vents had black mold all over it as did the tub in the bathroom. The rooms were poorly lit with curtains that didn't function properly and the bathroom was awful. One low wattage energy saver light in the ceiling which made it hard to shave by and the hardware and safety handles in the shower/tub area was dangling off the wall. The furniture needs to be replaced as it is beat up from years of use. We notified the front desk about not having any water and the young girl at the front desk seemed like she couldn't be bothered with our problem as she kept looking at a sheet of paper over and over again. She was not friendly at all. Our tour guide finally had to grab her attention so we could have her give us another room, which was not much better than the first but at least it had running water. I cannot recommend this hotel at all at this time, which is too bad because it has tremendous potential if some company invested some money in it, it would be a great place to stay and relax. It is truly a diamond in the rough.

"Not close to being four star resort at any standard."

Location is great for beach lovers, beach front resort, great view from our room. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Trinidad is about 20 minutes with a taxi which cost 10 CUC each way. The staff is friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the entertainment especially the dance routines. The resort itself is OK but need some TLC. Our room was on the 3rd floor (2nd floor for europeans). No lift, we were not offered any help with our luggage. For guests with mobility issues ask for a room on the ground floor. Check in. It starts at 1600 (strictly). If you arrive early, you can access the public areas and they have a room where you can store your luggage. The room is simply furnished, signs of wear and tear. The air-conditioning is not efficient, it takes some time to cool the room. When you leave you have to remove the key card from the receiver, meaning all electrical equipments in the room will be automatically turned off. Our room is coupled with another and they are separated only by a door. We can hear the next door guests chatting, coming in and going out, and coughing during the night. The bathroom needs some attention. The water pressure is weak and hot water is not always available. Hook to hang the shower is broken. Handle bar for the bath missing. Toilet seat misshapen and it moves when you sit down. The food and drinks. The buffet is below average. Limited choices of fruits. The fruit juices tasted very artificial, no fruit flavour at all, all sugar. The salad bar is average, not a lot of fresh vegetables. The roast chicken was very dry, the French toast tasted like burnt white bread. From our second day we had diarrhoea, mine lasted 2 days and husband's 5 days. I tried the à la carte restaurant alone as husband still had diarrhoea that day. The food was still disappointing, the only thing that I liked was the desert. When you order a drink or cocktail you would get it in a small plastic cup. People sometimes "forget" to dispose these in the bin. Every time we go to beach they do not have any beach towels, when the supply for the day is all used up it would not be replenished. I'm glad we brought our own. Very unlikely that we will stay here again.
