Een bezoekje aan het magnifieke Casa Dupont; men kan er tegenwoordig verrukkelijk dineren of van een drankje en het uitzicht genieten in de bar.

Meliá Las Americas

Uiterst sfeervol resort hotel.

Over Meliá Las Americas

Shows en entertainment. Winkeltjes, 24-uurs roomservice, beautysalon.

"Bad service "

   24-06-2017
Oh Cuba. The land of toughest chicken you could find. If you have dentures (I do not yet) order fish. Its pretty good. There are a lots of good things about this resort. Everything you will read here you will find in others reviews as well. Good: beach, no sand flies, no problem with loungers, umbrellas, towels, clean hotel and rooms, AC, nice layout, good entertainment, no problem with alcohol in your drink, food and overall it was better than in 2 other 5 stars Cuban resorts I've been, 4 la carte restaurants pretty good, nice view and layout , internet you need to pay but usable in the lobby. Bad: we arrived at 11 am. Checking in at 3 pm. We were told rooms not ready. This is were you need to tip. We went for a walk, lunch and ordered la carte. At almost 2 pm the same lady in white glasses still would not allow us to the room. Now I would not tip her as she purposely tortured us. We we tired. I know that rooms were ready. The next day a very nice cleaning lady knocked on my door quite loudly at 7:30 am. That happened only once. I have a feeling that that service was requested by the same lady at front desk. Other perks: At around 6:30 am low flying aircrafts right above the hotel. Mosquitos feasted on my wife. You'll get it outside and inside the hotel and room. Good AC in the room. But thermostats don't work. So it's either on or off. The general manager looks like a nice man takes Saturday off. Somehow, locals know about it. So, you get a skeleton staff and service. Alcohol is free but at la cart they want you to pay for it or have house wine. That wine is actually pretty good. One ketchup bottle and an oil bottle in the bar restaurants. So instead of serving you they take it from one customer to another. And the deal breaker: There are few members of the staff that are nice and helpful. We tipped after every meal. But, there are some that would not acknowledge you. The young barmen at the pool bar went to take pictures before serving me and my daughter with water and ice. At the same bar restaurant a lady got overwhelmed when we came for lunch, wouldn't remember if she gave us food and water ( she didn't). We wasted a lot of time. At the hotel bar one day we ordered excellent onion rings and burger. It came right away. We tipped as always. The last day we went again. The male waiter would not come near us. I ordered myself. The food came like 30 mins later. We wanted to leave. But my daughter was hungry. Then they took my burger to somebody else. They would not know who ordered it. I didn't tip. I don't think I can put up with such service again. Unfortunate, as there are very good people there but we were affected but few that are not. The last thing. There is a beautiful property to the left from the resort where locals come. Nice family people. We took nice pictures there. These people go into the water with drinks sometimes in both hands and come out without it. The bottom well seeded with aluminum and glass cans. Again this is adjacent to the resort, not resort itself.

"Will be top resort in Varadero in no time."

Was there a week ago. Stayed in 2204 Oceanview, check-in fast and courteous. Room was what you would want. Comfortable beds, good water pressure for shower and toilet, AC worked amazing, mini bar restocked. Food...best or at least on par with the number one resort in Varadero which I've stayed at. Bernard Meyer the General Manager seems to come outta the wall, what I mean is, he's always walking around the resort he's professional and approachable, making sure you are having a good vacation, speaks 100% English. Reminds me of the "worlds most interesting man" Anyway, you won't be disappointed, the Cubans always give it their all, they give what they have and are beyond appreciative when given clothes, shoes, sunglasses etc. As Arnold says "I'll be back"

"This place has my heart!"

   23-06-2017
This was my first time in Cuba and I had heard every stereotype you can think of regarding quality of food, lack of cleanliness, etc and I'm telling you right now, DON'T BELIEVE A WORD. This resort is absolutely incredible to the point where I've already booked my second trip and I just got back. I'm a 27 year old female who traveled here by myself and it is beyond safe. I left the resort every single night and I never had to worry. The staff makes you feel so welcome and the service was exceptional. I drink limes in my water and every time I visited the buffet the staff had my table and drink all ready for me without even having to ask. They go above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay and yes, tips are very much appreciated. I don't think some people understand the living situation in Cuba and how 1CUC can go such a long way. Please take this into consideration while visiting here :) ROOMS: I had booked an oceanview but was upgraded to a prime oceanview room on the 4th floor at check-in. Great view and no noise from my neighbours. Make sure you confirm at the time of the booking that your room has a balcony because some of the oceanview rooms don't. The rooms were cleaned everyday with fresh towels. Please keep in mind your room includes two beach towels, which can be replaced at the beach and from the maid service but make sure when you check out both beach towels are left in the room or you will be charged 20CUC. There's a note on the towels when you arrive but just wanted to stress this because some of the people I met at the resort weren't aware of this policy. The room also comes with a mini fridge which includes two big bottles of water, two beers and mixers and is replenished daily. I had no issues with my room with AC, cleanliness, cable, service etc. Everything worked great. As far as the bungalows go, they are quite a walk from the main tower and are better for those with bigger families since there is more room or if you're looking for more seclusion. BEACH: WOW- it's gorgeous. Clear blue waters and white soft sand. And there was never an issue with finding lounge chairs. Other resorts I've visited you had to wake up super early and claim a chair but there was always a lot available even ones under shade. There are paddle boats and kayaks available free of charge for use everyday and you aren't bothered by people trying to sell you stuff at all. I'd like to point out two staff members who absolutely deserve the highest recognition and I am coming back specifically to see them: LEA & ARMANDO! Lea is part of the entertainment team and perfected my salsa and meringue and Armando works at the beach bar and makes the BEST mojitos ever!!!! They are incredible people with the biggest hearts and I am beyond happy to have met them. FOOD: I had no issues with the food other than I wish they offered more Cuban food. I came to Cuba to eat authentic Cuban food and the resort does have a Cuban day where both the lunch and dinner buffet's offer it but it wasn't enough for me. I know the resort is trying to cater to an international crowd which is totally understandable but it is probably my only criticism. I didn't get to experience any of the a la cartes which was unfortunate but I will the next time I go! NIGHTLY ENTERTAINMENT: There were a few fashion shows, dancing, singing and pianist performances but it died down around 11pm or earlier some nights. I'm in my twenties so for me I had to leave the resort afterwards, which is fine because it is an adults only resort and caters to an older crowd so it all depends on what you like. There is a 24/hr snack bar with drinks and basic snacks which is great to come back to but also not lively enough to keep me there all night. If you want to venture out to downtown Varadero, please visit Casa de La Musica. A lot of locals go and it's a live salsa band which eventually turns into a club and everyone dances all night! Drinks are 3CUC and cabs to downtown are 10CUC, which is nothing if you go with a group and split. Downtown is also VERY safe. Please don't let this deter you from leaving the resort. BANKS: The resort is conveniently located right beside Plaza America which is basically a local mall and has a bank where you can exchange your money or pull out money using your visa/mastercard. You can also exchange your money at the front desk of the resort but I noticed they take a small commission like all resorts in Cuba so I preferred going to the plaza. There are also many ATM's in downtown Varadero. **Please note American cards do NOT work at ATM's. I'm Canadian but just wanted to advise other American travelers of this in case they did not know** Other than that, I can't recommend this resort enough. I had the time of my life and met so many incredible people that I can't wait to go back in a few weeks and see everyone. Please don't listen to the negative reviews because you won't be disappointed if you go!! Also don't forget to bring bug spray/repellent. It gets pretty buggy out at night especially on the beach :) SEE YOU SOON BERNARD MEYER, LEA & ARMANDO. Lots of love, Jennifer/Jenya

"Amazing hotel!"

   22-06-2017
I couldn't recommend this hotel any higher! My partner and I loved every minute of our two weeks here. Beautiful beach and pool areas, enough bars and restaurants to keep you busy (Sakura is great & La Arcada was amazing). The staff are helpful & friendly. Room was cleaned daily & fresh towels left (beach towels can be exchanged often as you want at the beach). Money exchange is easy to do. Entertainment was good, always something going on. Always sunloungers available at the pools but to get them on the beach don't go down too late! We will defiantly be back, we can see how lots of the people we met were repeat visitors.

"Awful experience"

   21-06-2017
Beautiful bach, beautiful country. It is a shame that the hotel recently opened and there are so many things that are not working properly. The tiles on the floor of the isle that our room was located were destroyed. The bath tub was too high, very difficult to get in and to get out without anywhere to hold on to.We are a family of two adults and a child and the room assigned to us had a huge clear glass window on the bathroom not proper for a family.Very poor customer service. The people from the reception were very rude and not able to solve problems. Our room did not have hot water and the air conditioning was very poor. The food was awful , the stakes were chewy and not able to eat. There was a variety of foods on the buffet but they were not labeled, the elaboration of the food was awful , salty and hard to eat.The price of the hotel is pretty expensive for the service and the quality of the hotel.i hope they improve the service and the maintenance of the hotel.
