"The beach is beautiful but the hotel is disappointing"

The hotel look a beautiful beach resort on the website, but in the end it is just a motel with very basic rooms. the most annoying experience was the room A/C which is very noisy and does't let you sleep at night. When we checked in nobody informed us about and mentioned that the better rooms available did't have this annoying problem. I mentioned that at the check out, but the person at the reception didn't really care that much about my remark. I was just another guest leaving the hotel never to be seen again... The "hotel restaurant" called Charley’s Boathouse Grill was even a worse experience. The food was very bad and the service unfriendly, but the bill was as high as high end place. Fortunately the beach in front of the resort is beautiful and the personeel is very friendly. In general an overpriced place with a misleading website...

My wife and I spent three nights here in August, 2017. It was our first trip to FMB, so I relied on reviews to help me find a hotel that might meet my needs and be affordable. We took a chance on Outrigger. As others have stated, the property is a bit dated, but the room we had was clean and everything worked. It was quiet enough, the AC kept the room comfortable although it was very hot and humid outside. The hot water was quick and plentiful. All in all, no complaints so far. The amenities in the room are simple: a small refrigerator, a coffee pot with some stoneware mugs, and a hair dryer. We would have probably used a microwave had there been one. The beds were comfortable and the towels were thick enough! All of the interactions that I had with staff were cordial and courteous. The wifi was free, but virtually non-usable inside the room. My wife did sit outside the room and get a connection, but I didn't try that. All in all, the stay was enjoyable, as far as the hotel goes. One negative for me was the lack of options for dining and shopping on the island. And the paid parking near the few options that do exist was frustrating. We have visited the beaches of the panhandle much more than this part of Florida and are used to ample, free parking as well as all kinds of options for meals.

"Ed From Naples"

We recently stayed for a weekend. The room was very clean but dated. We foun out they were going to do begin renovating the rooms the day after we checked out. We enjoyed the pool ( which was recently redone), while we listened to live music by the nice tiki bar. The overall ambiance is great. The beach is wide and beautiful. The staff at checkin as well as the cleaning crew were very courteous. We have been going here for years just to listen to the live music and have drinks at the tiki bar(we live within 30 miles). We will return again to stay for weekend in the future.

"Everywhere you turn, there's a problem"

I was here for a Daddy/Daughter beach vacation for 4 days before school, and thought I found a great hotel based upon the pictures. It appears to me the owners are much more focused on the impression, than delivering on that impression. From the moment I arrived, it seemed everywhere I turned, there as a problem. The fact that I had to start keeping a list after the first few hours is indicative of the problem. CHECK IN AND STAY: 1.) They need the tag for your car to park. When she asked for the tag number, and I told her I don't have it memorized and I would call it in as soon as I get into the room after parking, she told me no, she needed it now. So I dropped all the things I was holding, asked my 6 year old daughter to sit on the sofa while I went out in the 94 degree heat to get he tag number, and walk right back in to give it to her. Suggestion to hotel: Let guests call in thier tag number if they dont have it within a reasonable amount of time. Suggestion to travelers: Have your tag memorized. 2) Got to the room, unpacked, and turned on the laptop to respond to a work email. No Wi-Fi codes was given in my check in paperwork. Called the Office, and they gave me the code. Used the code, but guess what? The signal is terrible and I couldnt connect to my server. Called them back to ask them where can I get a good signal? They said, yes, because of the concrete buildings, it is weak, and they suggested I go sit in the cafe, office, or 'certain areas' around the hotel. (Wherever that is). Suggestion to resort: Give guests the Wi-Fi code upon check in. Make them aware of the signal problems, and have places on the resort to improve the signal. Suggestion to guest: Use your phone as a hot spot. 3.) So, I packed up the laptop and cord, went to the cafe, had a seat, and plugged in my laptop. No Power. Went to another table, plugged in the laptop, no power. Went to a third outlet and table, no power. Suggestion to resort: Every place that has an outlet, fix it so it works, or drywall over it. Suggestion to guest: Fully power your devices and dont expect the outlets to be working. 4.) Went on the deck outside that was shaded with palms, I didnt want to work outside i the heat, but it was shaded. LIfted up the electrical box cover to plug in my laptop, and guess what? It is not a 110v outlet! You can't plug it in-There is only 2 holes! Suggestion to resort: Fix the problem. Suggestion to guest: Fully power your devices and dont expect outlets to be compatible with your device power cord. Note: The Non-Smoking is a joke. There was smoking all around me. It was unbearable. No-one adhered to the policy or enforced it. 5.) So, went back to the room. My 6 year old was beyond patient, and I said, lets go swimming in the pool. Got to the pool, and despite the picture on the website, there was only 3 tables with umbrellas and those were taken. I am a skin cancer survivor, so I need the shade. If I wanted shade, I had to leave the pool area and fence, and sit on the sundeck underneath the tiki hut, but you cant see your child. So, I was forced to sit in the sun or disappoint my duaghter-I sat in the sun. Suggestion to resort: Buy some more umbrellas. 3 on the pool deck is not acceptable. Suggestion to guest: Be aware. Get their early and claim a table with umbrella. Note: There are bulbs out at the pool, and no in-pool lights. Huge safety risk for the hotel. Huge. Very dark after sunsets. 6.) Dried off and went back to the room. Pulled out my key, and guess what? Key isnt working! I can't get in my room. Luckily, I was beach front, and went through the sliders. So, I called the front desk, and told them about the key. They said, "Yes, that sometimes happens. We think its the chlorine." I said, "Ok. It would hav been helpful if you would tell your guests that. Can I get another key?" They said sure. (YOU) just come down to the front desk, and we will give you one!" I couldnt beleive it. Suggestion to hotel: Send someone to the room with a new key for your guest. Suggestion to guest: Don't get your key wet if you want it to work. I know your at the beach on vacation-Don't get it wet. 7.) Got showered off after getting the key, and it was night time. My daughter and I did eat at the cafe, and the server Mary was wonderful and welcoming. They Outrigger Burger was great, and my duaghter enjoyed the ice cream and small chat with Mary. She was a bright spot. Went back to the room to watch TV. Grabbed the remote-and guess what? Remote doesnt work. Grabbed the second remote. Unless you squeeze down really hard and go lower then the TV and to the right, you might be able to change the channel. It was ridiculous. Suggestion to resort: Fix / Replace the remotes. Suggestion to guest: Dont expect the remotes to work. Note: The TV's are ridiculously small for the room. The wall mounts are bigger than the TV. 8.) Off to Bed. -Not sleep. The AC in that room is 5 feet from the bed and the noise was awful, but what was worst was the constant air flow on you. It was like the window rolled down in your car. No one night did we sleep well. Suggestion to resort Fix the problem, or move the bed to another part of the room. Suggestion to guest: If you like air blowing on you, then you'll enjoy the accomodations. 9.) Next morning, got up early to take my daughter swimming. We go early because of the skin cancer issue, and try to do these things first thing before the sun is completely up or when the sun sets. Anyway, walked to the pool at 8:15am, and I dee a guy cleaning the pool. Im already thinking about how to break the news to my daughter. I asked the guy, "Excuse me, when will it be ok to swim?" Did you ever get the look from someone that indicates you completely disrupted his day, that the question you asked was a stupid one, and you annoyed him? It was that look, followed by, "The pool opens at 9:00" I said, "Ok, sorry. First time here." He said, "Come back at 9:00am" I said, "k. Have a nice day". SO, we left. I explained to my daughter what the rules were, and that we would have to go later." Suggestion for Resort: Train your staff on how to treat guests. While they have been here for weeks, months, or years, your guests have not. THey need to keep that in mind-Regardless, train your staff how to treat and respond to guests that are reflective of the image you are trying to create, or get new staff that know better. Suggestion to guest:The pool opens at 9:00am. Don't go early. 10.) So, we went back to the room. I suggested we go to the beach and use her treasure detector she got for her birthday a few weeks earlier. She was excited and forgot about the pool. As soon as we walked on the beach, we got hit, after hit, after hit-RIght outside our door! It was awesome. What were we hitting on? Nails, screws, bottle caps-You get the picutre. Suggestion to resort: Clean up the property around your hotel.We threw the nails away for you (Your welcome.) Suggestion to guests: Wear shoes. 11.) So, we went for a dip in the ocean. Lots of shore line. Pretty and quiet. We go into the water, and literally, there were dozens of sting rays in the water. Right at the shore line. No swimming for us the entire week on our 'Beach Vacation'. Suggestion to resort: Notify the guests of the 'season' so they are aware prior to booking. Suggestion to guest: Do your research before booking. Miscellaneous problems: 12.)Security bar on glass sliders was coming out of the walls, and you needed to be a surgeon to get it to stick up the right way to hold the bar so you can get out of the room. 13.) Ants in the bathroom and kitchen. 14.) Top of the refirgerator rubber was filthy. It appears housekeeping is wiping the top of the refrigerator and letting the debris fall on the rubber. 15.) Patio furniture doesnt make sense. They have a table with 2 lounge chairs and 2 leg rests. Too much furniture on the deck. 2 chairs and an end table would be more appropriate. Cant use the deck unless you get move pieces of furniture and put it on the beach..Which we did. The deck is small, the furniture is too big for the patio and not to scale . 16.) Appreciate the decorative folding of the towels, but to get to the towel you need after showering is a hassel, because it requires that you have to take the decorative folded towels off, and there is no counterplace to really put those so they are getting dumped on the floor, and they are clean. CHECKOUT: 17.) Was checking out today, and the girl Heather at the front asked me how my stay was. There was someone checking in, and so I didn't want to comment. I did say to her however if she could have the general manager give me a call in a few minutes, and extended my cell phone. She read it back to me, and it was correct. My attempt was to talk with her in private about the issues I had. So, waited...all day, and there was no phone . So add that to the list above. Either Heather didn't give it to her, or she did give it to her, and I'm sure there is some 'reason' I didn't get a call back. Could it be that there is no need to call since I checked out and paid the $1000 for 4 days? Who knows. Had they called me to discuss my stay, then like most issues, they probably could have gotten resolved. Who knows. In closing, had I spent $75/night on this room, I would have still been frustrated, but the low cost would have justified the experience to some degree. You get what you pay for, right? In this case, I spent $200 per night, and in this case, you don't get what you pay for. Hope this is helpful for both the guest, and the hotel.

"Down the SEA "

This hotel is out dated,at the moment construction and renovation is going on.This means a lot of noise early in the morning. The whole place looks tired. However the location down the beach makes it worthwhile. If I would rated on scale from 1-10 it would be a 5.
