"Weekend getaway"

Nicely appointed, clean, comfortable rooms. Very quiet at night, no rowdy crowds, adequate accommodations on site. Cute tropical atmosphere! Tiki hut style umbrellas over tables, great deck area, Tiki Hut drink bar with live local music on weekends (really good). Decent food at on premises cafe. Great huge beach area. Very friendly staff!

"Great and reliable"

My 3rd year staying here. My son is a student at Florida Gulf Coast University. I come here from PA and stay here each year while I visit him for a week. The staff here are friendly and helpful. Many are long time employee. The location and tiki bar are outstanding. Each night the locals blow the conch shell trumpets as the sun sets signaling the beginning of night life. Rooms are clean and comfortable. They have been renovating each year to bring the resort up to date. Morning buffet breakfast on site. Close to everything on the island and well worth the stay. The nightly rates are more than fair. I will continue coming here even after my son graduates next year.

"A lovely place to stay!"

We wanted to stay in Fort Myers because of its proximity to Sanibel and Captiva islands which I particularly wanted to visit. We had a warm welcome from the lady at reception (always a good sign!) The hotel isn't the most attractive I've seen and looks a little dated. However, our room was perfectly fine with 2 double beds and a nice bathroom. The whole place has the feel of a motel because of the landings, allowing people to walk past your door to get to their room. At least we could park our car just below our room for free! (No valet parking! Great!) The hotel is literally on the beach and the beach is beautiful, very wide with lovely soft, white sand. Apparently turtles had been nesting on the beach but we didn't see any unfortunately. There is a nice cafe on the premises where we had the most enormous taco 'basket' stuffed full! Thank goodness we ordered one to share! We also used this cafe for breakfast where we found a good selection. The 'tiki' bar overlooking the beach is a really nice place to enjoy the evening sun whilst partaking of a drink or two and listening to the live music. I'd certainly stay here again.

"Great Location, average motel"

While the Outrigger had a lot of positives, it has just as many negatives. It’s a small motel that faces the Gulf, it’s in a fabulous location, it’s clean, and the rooms are appropriately priced. The staff is very welcoming, professional and they have excellent customer service. It is a motel though, the rooms are average, there’s a lot of exterior noise from both the hotel guests and hotel entertainment. The beach is very beautiful and very well maintained. There is an awesome Tiki Bar and restaurant on site, both of which I found to be reasonably priced. Would I stay there again, probably not, for as many positives the motel had it had that many negatives. I spoke earlier regarding the exterior noise, I didn’t mind the noise from the bar but the exterior noise from people around you, the cars and motorcycles was enough to do me in. There was one particular morning that a large family was leaving and as they were loading their car their children were running by playing and laughing outside our room. This normally wouldn’t have been a problem but it was 7:30 am and I am on vacation so I found that a little rude. I know that the Outrigger staff couldn’t prevent that but had I stayed in a traditional hotel that wouldn’t have happened. The ocean was about a 2.5 football field lengths (250 yrds) from the motel, that’s quite a long walk. The Wi-fi was pretty much worthless, I spent 4 days frustrated that I couldn't load my vacation pictures to social media for my family to view. My biggest complaint though was that The Outrigger doesn’t provider their guests with complimentary beach chairs. I have NEVER stayed at a beach front hotel/motel that didn’t provide their guests free beach chairs. This is unacceptable to me and a deal breaker.

"Friendly property in great location on the beach"

I liked the resort because its on a great beach. You do have to pay to rent 'cabanas' on the beach if you want to, there are no chairs provided. All deck areas by the pool, however are free and easy to use. Rooms and common areas are fairly worn out and can use some updating. Our room was freshly painted, and the linens were clean and everything smelled fresh. The carpet could be replaced with tile and the bathroom fixtures could also use updating, but I would stay there again. Primarily for the pool/deck/tiki bar area, the cleanliness of our room, a great little restaurant, and the friendly staff.
