"Two Resort Vacation"

Stayed in the Villas for two days at the tail end of a girl's week. The hotel was lovely. The room (1 bedroom villa) was beautiful and the bathroom huge (which is important when you've got three adult women sharing a room...) My only complaint would be the Disney transportation. Whether it be the fault of the park or the resort, when we left EPCOT, we headed for the buses. When we got there, we discovered there was no bus to our resort. We had to go back through security to get to the monorail to get to our resort. There was no signage at the park stating there was no bus, and no one at the resort let us know 'hey, don't leave the park to try to get a bus'. And although Disney security moves quickly, it was inconvenient to have to go back through it, when we could've avoided it if someone would have told us not to leave the park to get to the bus. Otherwise, the resort is lovely. Even though we didn't have a 'park view' room, we could still see Space Mountain and some of the fireworks from our balcony.

"GORGEOUS property"

this is THE place to stay while at WDW for older, wanting the best couples. YES, it is EXPENSIVE and YES, it is EXCLUSIVE. BUT, it is the smallest of the onsite monorail properties so it's LESS CROWDED!!! The pools and grounds are gorgeous - manicured and kept immaculate. The way the buildings are made keep noise at bay and your walk to the room is a short stroll no matter where it's located. The monorail is JUST outside the lobby and the staff are impeccable.

"Mixed product at premium price tag results in poor rating"

The Grand Floridian was about as mixed as a peanut butter milkshake. My room was nice and large, with a private balcony that overlooked the lagoon where the monorail passed by every few minutes. Supposedly this was an upgrade over the garden view, but to be honest, I didn’t find the cement platform very attractive. The tub, shower, toilet, and double sink all worked fine and seemed relatively new. I managed to sleep well in the marshmallow soft bed, but I could definitely see why one of my colleagues complained that it was too soft for her. Temperature control was inconsistent – I’m not even sure the thermostat was hooked into the heating and cooling systems, because I never succeeded in getting the room at a temperature where I wasn’t uncomfortably cold. The hotel grounds were well manicured and pleasant for morning and evening walks. There was even a lake facing the Magic Kingdom that set the stage for nightly fireworks. Architecturally, the buildings felt like old Florida, speckled in pink, with a beautiful main lobby where a nightly jazz band on the second floor played until 9:45 PM, making up for the schmaltzy Disney tunes invading everyone’s ears earlier in the day from a hired hand on one of the Steinways downstairs. It’s too bad that all three pools were aimed more at little kids than at adults. Not one had a deep end beyond four feet. Similarly, the fitness center left nothing to write home about, with only a few machines for the entire complex. The biggest frustration, however, came with dining and service in general. Even though normal room prices at the Grand Floridian ranged from $400-$600, the majority of the staff we encountered across the property were young, inexperienced, often lacking basic knowledge, and participating in some college internship program. Frankly, I found it disingenuous for Disney to charge premium dollars when much of the hotel staff was on the low end of the pay scale. Even worse, the Disney experience for getting information or requesting services was more painful than pulling teeth. It was impossible to get information about hotel facilities over the phone without having someone from the central switchboard offer to sprinkle pixie dust on my day before having to put me on hold for even the most basic questions. And following every call, after I was wished a magical day, I was subjected to an automated telephone survey on my “experience.” Indeed, everything was a major production. Everything required research and further investigation. Why? Because Disney evidently thinks it’s better to centralize support rather than do what every other hotel in the world does which is to direct calls to the front desk. Dining was beyond repair. Far be it we could just go someplace and pop in for a meal. Impossible. With the exception of the Cericios bar, every meal required a reservation, and when we tried to make one, options were severely limited – often requiring several hours wait if available at all. And Disney policy made reservations like signing your life in blood ink. Once you made one, if you cancelled or even tried to change, you would incur a $20 fee. Unreal. To make matters worse, reservations required a separate credit payment independent of the room account and Magic Disney bands linked to it. That’s right. We were able to purchase two-day hopper passes to Animal Kingdom and Epcot with a simple wave of our band at the front desk, but we couldn’t reserve one of the restaurants for dinner without going back to the room to fetch the credit card that we had thought we could stow in a safe place. And by the time we did, the reservation time was no longer available. As the Disney staff explained, this was a security measure. What a joke! Staying on Disney property definitely has advantages, but given the premium one must pay and the frustrations one must endure for a mixed product, it didn’t feel like it was worth the money, and I would not return.

"Delightful Resort"

The hotels on Disney's property seldom disappoint if you can stay on the concierge club floors. I know that other rooms can be tired. If you stay at the Grand Floridian the Concierge Club will not disappoint. Our view of the fireworks nightly from our balcony was amazing - Magical! The nightly music in the lobby and the hotel character is delightful! In the Club Lounge, you will be pampered by the staff - Lauretta particularly is warm and charming. Don't miss this place if you are headed to the Magic Kingdom!

"One of the nicest!"

I do a lot of business traveling and have stayed in a lot of nice hotels; Four Seasons, Ritz, etc. The Grand Floridian is right up there in quality and service, I'm trying think of one negative thing, but I can't. Ok, yes it's a bit expensive even for Disney, but you beat the service and comfort. Not that I need to watch TV while brushing my teeth, but why not.
