"Perfect hotel for NYC visit"
We checked in on the 5th of December. We were greeted by Juan, who was a pleasure to deal with. The hotel was lovely. It was bright, lots of space in the lobby, halls, and restaurant. Our room was perfect: it was quiet, clean, and spacious. We were able to head back to the hotel at any stage and chill out. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The hotel also is extremely quiet for a hotel so close to times square, and it's very secure with the staff by the door. The cocktails in the bar were lovely! I'm left my hotel teddy in the room and I just only realised it on the plane home. I would 100% recommend this hotel: the staff are friendly, the location is Perfect, it's quiet, clean, and comfortable. We will be back.
"Central location marks the spot"
Very busy, nice hotel excellent location, very close to time square. Staff seemed friendly tho so busy we didnt speak to many of them! Renovations being done but did not disrupt our stay. There is a restaurant attached which was handy. Food was acceptable.
Stayed at the hotel over a special weekend in New York City. Location is great, in heart of theater district near many restaurants. Pleasant staff and surprised by managers reception in lobby. Attached restaurant was quite good. Old fashioned hotel, over 800 rooms on 22 floors. Clean, though not modern. Bed needed new mattress. Had been upgraded due to a special birthday and this was appreciated.
"Great location, average after that "
We arrived at the Edison at 22.20, some 2 hours later than planned due to a delay at the airport. We had booked a double room for 2 people and a room for 4 people with 2 double beds. When we arrived my relatives were quickly booked in and off they went but the receptionist then told us we could be there a while as there was a problem with our room. To cut a long story short, we were told the room we had booked in March was not available to us due to other guests deciding to stay over at the last minute and the hotel was obliged to let them remain in what would have been our room. The deputy manager said it was common for hotels to 'overbook'. They told us not to worry as we had been upgraded to a suite which compromised of a bedroom with a double bed and a sitting room with a sofa bed. When we saw the sofa bed we realised there was no way a 17 year old and a 5 year old could sleep there due to how thin the mattress was. We pulled it out and honestly you could feel the springs digging into your butt! Reception agreed to supply us with a proper mattress but housekeeping arrived with a duvet saying there were no spare mattresses. We were then offered another room which turned out to be a twin room for 2 people! After being told there was nothing else available we decided to take both rooms meaning my husband and our 5yr old slept in the suite whilst my 17yr old and I slept in the twin room. Nothing else was offered to us for the duration of our stay (5 days). My impression of reception staff was they really couldn't care. As compensation we were initially offered free breakfast for the four of us but this was refused. They eventually offered €200 but this would be payable to our travel agent. Thankfully I spoke to our travel agent and he was brilliant and dealt with the hotel and £320 was to be paid into our bank account. So after that issue what was the rest of the hotel like??? Well to be honest it was a mixed bag. It is undergoing extensive refurbishment throughout. The suite was nice enough as was the twin room but the room our relatives stayed in was small and dated but perfectly adequate. Food in the Friedman restaurant was ok, we are there once but staff were incredible slow. Took us 1.5 hours to get breakfast. Room service is actually way better, quicker and cheaper as it seems to be contracted out. Reception staff in the foyer could improve their customer service skills and smile more. Concierge were lovely as were the housekeeping staff. Overall the hotel is in a great location for amenities. It is a bit tired looking but they are trying to address this. Security is good as each guest in the foyer has to show their room card to access the lifts giving some peace of mind. Biggest grumble for me is their lack of commitment to new guests. They should honour their bookings and not allow others to stay over if it impacts upon new guests.
"Great Times Square location and helpful staff"
We booked this hotel for proximity to theaters, and I would stay here again. We had a slight hiccup at check-in --I had one extra guest and hadn't booked a large enough room --but even though it was NYC marathon weekend, she managed to get us the last open room that could fit us and didn't gouge us for the on-the-spot upgrade. The hotel is undergoing renovation, so parts of it are under construction, but that didn't faze us. The rooms are generally small, but that's standard in NYC, and you don't spend much time there anyway.
