Over Francis Marion

"Business Trip with my Husband"
This hotel a a Historic building built in the early 1920's. It was restored to the original look and is beautiful to see. Big chandeliers hanging in the lobby and it has a Starbucks right in the hotel for the coffee drinkers along with a restaurant and small gift shop. It's right downtown on King St. and lots of shopping and restaurants within walking distance. You can also walk to the Harbor from here and catch the ferry to Fort Sumter or take a carriage ride through the historic area and see some amazing churches and old homes and learn the history of Charleston.
I attended a wedding here and thought the staff did an excellent job. Sure there were a few minor things that were not good but considering it was a busy weekend for them I thought it was a very enjoyable time.
This hotel deserves many more superlatives than I've seen in reviews. It has style, comfort, location, cleanliness, and a super helpful staff. They're particularly attentive: I mentioned we were visiting to celebrate a special family occasion, and they pulled out all the stops to make it a memorable celebration. Only downside: like many hotels in this category, the bathroom is unreasonably small (with a hint of mustiness). Negligible; I highly recommend this hotel for Charleston visitors.
"Wonderful restored historic hotel in great location"
A friend visiting from Australia and I stayed at the Francis Marion the first week in January. I was upgraded to a corner suite, which was a great convenience for us both, and had a lovely big bedroom with fabulous views of the harbor and up King Street. My friend's room, much smaller, overlooked the harbor. Both rooms were in good condition and clean, with comfy beds. The bathrooms are very small--no doubt because of the hotel's 1927 build. The location is perfect--restaurants to the north and shops to the south, on the free tram line, and just about 4 blocks from the visitor's center. Charleston isn't large, so it's also not far to other historic areas. My friend left her international currency converter in her room on check-out and the hotel was very good about finding that and sending it to us overnight. Much appreciated!
"Very nice stay. Lovely lobby where you can sit and visit with friends."
Lovely older hotel that has retained it's charm. The staff were excellent. Our son is in a wheelchair and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Location is excellent for seeing the city. The only thing that was of any concern was the bathroom was very small. However the shower was great and the room was very clean. The bathroom just went along with the nostalgia of the hotel (there was a time when we didn't need huge bathrooms).
