"Older Hotel with Character and WONDERFUL customer service!"
I've always wanted to see Charleston so my husband added 2 days onto our trip so we could check it out. From the moment we arrived at the hotel everyone we encountered was friendly, helpful and showed us true southern hospitality. Our room was ready early and they found us one with a beautiful view of the bridge. The hotel is older with tons of character and is very clean, but the bathrooms are tiny with no counter space which make it harder for women to do their hair and make-up. It is centrally located- walking distance to great shopping and restaurants, but I must mention that one of our favorite meals we had was at the hotel restaurant-- their shrimp and grits was AMAZING! We also ate at Magnolias (which came highly recommended) and at Poogan's Porch which were both good, but honestly our lunch at the hotel (Swamp Fox Restaurant) was just as good if not better!! We took the Two Sisters Walking tour and unfortunately the skies opened up and it started to pour about 15 minutes into the tour-- we all took out umbrellas and continued the tour. As we continued, the rain got harder and more intense-- it felt like we were in the middle of a monsoon! We all got DRENCHED, and our tour guide (bless her) was still talking through it all... at this point, all you could do is laugh. By the time we arrived back at the hotel we were a mess. We had already checked out before we went on the tour, but were hoping that we could find a public restroom and dry off and change before leaving. I went to the front desk (looking like something the cat dragged in) and told them that we already checked out but were hoping that we could borrow a few towels to dry off. SHANAE JOHNSON at the front desk was so sweet! She not only got us fresh towels, but gave us a fresh guest room so we could shower!!! We were so grateful to her and everyone else at the hotel for their impeccable customer service- the bellboys gave us maps and recommended restaurants, etc. Thank you to all- GREAT EXPERIENCE despite all the rain!!
"Fancy hotel in a great location"
We spent two nights in this hotel with our two kids (12, 14). The room was huge which was a nice bonus with the four of us. Unfortunately the bathroom was tiny and we could hardly turn around inside it! We were a bit disappointed with the view from our windows as we looked out onto the roofs of old buildings. Another problem was that we were next door to the ice machine and the noise from it could be heard quite loudly from our room. It didn't bother us too much but was a bit of a distraction when trying to sleep. Other than this, the hotel was beautiful, very old style. The staff at the door were very helpful and friendly as were the valet service. We didn't use any restaurant facilities and this hotel didn't provide breakfast. It was in a great location to local sights and the free bus nearby was a fantastic bonus! I would happily stay here again, but for the price, may consider something a bit cheaper as we were let down by the bathroom size and the view. I would recommend it if you would like to stay somewhere that feels traditional and you are happy to spend a bit more money for a good view and to use the facilities.
"Large room-tiny bathrooms"
The lobby is just as gorgeous as the pictures. Upon entering the hotel you could feel the history in the building. When the receptionist told me I had been upgraded and my room would have two bathrooms, I was very impressed! However as with all historical buildings there are certain quirks--in this case it was the bathrooms. They were tiny, especially when compared to the massive bedroom. While I recommend the hotel overall, be ready for the historical oddities.
"Francis Marion Great Hotel"
Very nice, great location, lots of character. Did not eat dinner there but had a great breakfast. Great staff. If you're looking for a very nice hotel near the historic district then Francis Marion is the place for you.
"Business with Pleasure"
Excellent location and the car never came out of the garage. Walk to everything and felt very safe. Very Charming decor. Rooms are not huge but everything you need is there. Staff is friendly and helpful.
