"Bring your own supplies of drinking water and snacks"
We ran out of drinking water, after a day and night out drinking wine in Napa, and couldn't get any water in this hotel without it coming at a room service price for a small bottle. A vending machine would have really helped. If you have been to Napa before, you will know that it is a very quiet place where you can feel isolated from basic services. This makes you reliant on your hotel to be able to provide what's necessary. If you don't stock up on drinking water, in the shops downtown, it will come at a huge price and inconvenience to you when you arrive back at this hotel. Here is a full list of my pros and cons for this hotel. Pros - Inexpensive to stay here verses other more pricey hotels in Napa. - An onsite bowling alley provides good night time entertainment. Cons - Dusty/musty smell in the rooms that is probably coming from the old thick carpets and upholstery. - No vending machines or shop onsite. - Rowdy bar that attracts locals. - Deep-fried, heavy-on-the-mayonnaise and over priced bar and room service food. - 1 bottle of complimentary water, that tasted unfiltered, above a refrigerator that was not cold. - Dark rooms that all looking out at ground level to the surrounding hotel carpark.
The rooms are very nice, clean. The lobby, restaurant, and cave (it's really a cave)are all very beautiful. The staff are very friendly and especially Carlos who brought our breakfast. We needed a handicap room (hubby's in a wheelchair ). A couple of suggestions to the hotel. There needs to be a towel rack near the tub. Not 12 feet away in the water closet. Lower the bed height so it's easier to transfer from the chair. Finally, it's really quiet at night (loved it) but the metal rattling in the ac vent made it hard to sleep.
"Very comfortable Reort"
We stayed there for a business meeting. I liked that the resort was close to downtown but far away enough to feel like you're in the country. The food is very good. The wine cave which we were lucky to have a dinner in is fabulous. The rooms are comfortable and we had a nice balcony overlooking the vineyards.
I stayed at the Meritage during the recent fire storm, and I would like to comment on how wonderful the service was at this hotel and the bigheartedness of the owner and general manger Mr. Palmer. My experience at the Meritage was greatly beyond my expectations. Everything from the graciousness of the staff, the discounted rooms and the free meal supply was terrific. One person that stands out among the staff was Patricia in PBX, during my stay, anything I needed or wanted she would make sure it happened. She was genuine on the phone, very polite and professional. Thank You Ken S.
"Large hotel on outskirts of Napa"
We spent the weekend with friends recently at the Meritage. The hotel is huge, not quaint or intimate at all. The staff were all pleasant, some were exceptionally friendly (the employees at Blend cafe and the lobby bartender Donna were exceptional). Our room was a disappointment. The mattress was very lumpy and uneven. It felt like the mattress had not been turned over in 10 years. I slept poorly and had a backache for 2 days. The room had a very strong perfume odor, perhaps it was a cleaning product or air sanitizer. The thermostat was out of whack, it was constantly blowing cold air, so we just kept it shut off. The oddest part of this hotel is the very blatant religious slant of the hotel. Besides rosary beads and bibles in every room, there is a Catholic chapel on site and religious statues on the grounds. There is also a program they advertise which offers free accommodations for Catholic clergy. As a devout agnostic, I found it all a bit odd and unsettling...too much Kool Aid for us. Pros: Nice staff, cafe was good for breakfast, bowling alley was fun. Dog friendly hotel. Free shuttle to downtown Napa. Cons: Food was average and overpriced. Bed was really terrible. Room heat/air was not working properly. Room was heavily perfumed. Religious leanings of hotel were a huge turn-off. Not close to anything in the area.
