"Fine hotel, but location nothing amazing."
This is a nice big clean modern hotel. No musty smell or "critters," so I'm not sure why someone (scroll down) wrote that. Very comfortable for sleeping. I have only the comment that it is not at all centrally located. The comment that there is a lot to do here is for those people ready to take very long drives to other places because the hotel and beach area around the hotel do not offer anything to do. Taxis are expensive & haphazard-- hit or miss as to whether you can get one promptly. There is really nothing to do at this hotel except sit on the beach, which is an average to below average beach. The pool is very shallow and there are no activities, no pier, can't rent a boat, paddle board, or jet ski, from here; if you like to sit and read a book, well then this is a fine place, but really-- that can be done in many places, including the U.S.A. So all-in-all, being from Miami, we were not impressed and would not come back here. Several "ocean view" rooms actually have a balcony looking at a roof and obstructed view of ocean so when checking in, ask to avoid a balcony that looks at the restaurant's roof. I did not try the spa. Bar at pool is tiny and cannot accommodate the customers. Slow. Poolside food good & yes the employees are nice & sincerely friendly. The problem at the end of the day is the location. You will spend a minimum $15. one way for a taxi to get anywhere in St. Maarten. Probably more. This hotel cannot be the place from where you have fun. You have to leave the location to have fun. This, I did not like.
"hands down the least enjoyable hotel experience this decade"
stopped there for 12 hours in transit towards st barth... as i didn't know sint maarten, I went for westin thinking 'this is a great brand, what can go wrong?' let's count the ways: -arriving at 9pm, the enormous, potentially amazing entrance lobby is...spoiled by dozens of casino machines. Makes for a completely soul-less, dystopian impression. -the restaurant. where to start. don't go there. The cocktails are straight out of the cocktail mix packs, the salads are straight out of the salad mix bags (which are straight out of the fridge), and the "ripe mangoes" described on the menu are actually diced cubes, you guessed it, straight out of a plastic bag (think "fruit salad" at mcdonalds quality). The tempura tuna roll appetiser? don't try it. The terrace which, again, has amazing potential, was lit by a single neon light, felt like we were in an underground parking lot. -the room was ok, but had an odd unfinished feel to it. The view would have nice. -at 8am check out, I find that I get a $20 resort fee tagged on top... I mention that as we were last in last night and first out in the morning, it wasn't exactly the best way to treat customers (just add the "resort fee" to the price upfront... you are in the service industry, not in the "how can we scam customers and hope we get away with it" industry), the receptionist just looked at me and said basically that he agreed but there is nothing he can do and no manager was around... way to empower your employees to make the right decision, hotel management!) Only good thing about that stay is that it convinced us to change our plans on the way back: we went straight from st barth to antigua and avoided another night at sint maarten.
"Wonderful week in St. Maarten!"
We spent a week at this resort, and had a wonderful time. Check-in was smooth and the front desk staff was great. We had beautiful oceanfront rooms. It was always a pleasure to step out on the balcony. The bathrooms were spacious and well-lit, and the beds were comfortable. Housekeeping service was good. I think they came in the early afternoons. The breakfast buffet was great -- lots of variety and generally attentive waitstaff. Breakfast was usually pretty busy but on the days when there was a line to get in, it moved fast. You can either have breakfast inside or outside on the patio. We usually ate lunch at the beach or poolside. The lunch menu was very reasonably priced compared to what we usually see at beach resorts. The kids loved the virgin drinks too. My daughter loved the fish tacos (which is surprising because she would not normally eat that). I tried them too and they were good. One day we wanted calamari, and so the beach attendant brought us a menu from Ocean (the main restaurant), as opposed to the pool/beach menu. He brought the food out to us from the main restaurant. As you can see, service at the hotel was good. We only had one dinner on site. Wednesday night was pirate night, and the kids had a blast. There was a buffet in the same restaurant where breakfast is, and seating was outdoors. There was a small stage with performers. The performers involved all of the kids, which was great. That was our kids' favorite dinner of the week; they had a lot of fun eating and dancing, as well as watching the entertainers. I highly recommend it to families with children. Service at the dinner was excellent -- they were constantly refilling drinks and clearing plates. While there was a lot of variety in the buffet, the food was average. it was more for the experience than the food. The beach was our favorite place to be. The sand was powder-soft. The water was beautiful and it always felt great to get in. It's not calm water, though. There are waves, but the kids had a blast playing in them (as did I). The waves are not too rough or anything. After you take a few steps into the water, there are some rocks, but if you walk another two feet, they're gone, and it's just sand. We had great afternoons just lying on the beach chairs and reading, dozing off, etc. I'm missing the beach as I type this. The kids loved the pool, but I much prefer the beach. The pool was huge, but it wasn't as warm as the ocean. There are plenty of chairs (but no umbrellas). However, depending on where you sit, you can find shade if you want it. The hot tub is huge. I wouldn't describe it as hot though, more warm than hot, and some days it was warmer than others. But it was nice to take a warm dip before heading back up to the room after a day at the beach. Everything -- pool, beach, hot tub -- was very clean. The staff does a good job cleaning. We had a very relaxing week. I would highly recommend this resort! We were here for seven nights and would have happily stayed longer!
Great hotel and staff. Food is top notch and the locals could not be any friendlier. Rooms are clean and there is much to do here like scuba diving, snorkeling, jet skis and long hikes. I would definitely come back here and explore more!
We visited St. Maarten as a reward trip. The service was some of the best we have ever had. The drinks were done well, tasty, and correctly mixed- even though we had an all inclusive option. Usually that means drinks and service are not the best, but Weston kept it top notch. The food was good, but not great. The facility was well maintained and nicely manicured. The casino was just there...no real drawing power. In fact the ATM was broken so our friends there ran out of cash quickly and couldn't even lose more. They have a nice, but short beachfront. The pools were well placed, clean, nice. They did arrange a solid kayak outing for us, that went smoothly. Beds were nice, but too soft for our personal taste. The shower was weak on water pressure and not quite hot enough personally. Overall room was nice with a good view.
