Over The Westin St. Maarten Dawn Beach Resort & Spa

Het Westin Resort beschikt over het grootste zwembad op het eiland voorzien van een swim-up bar, whirlpool, ligbedden en handdoekenservice. De receptie is 24 uur per dag geopend en heeft een speciale bagageruimte beschikbaar. Verder beschikt het resort over meerdere restaurants en bars, een fitnessruimte, een spa met vele faciliteiten, een cadeaushop, kledingwinkel, juwelier, duikwinkel,  autoverhuurbalie, wasservice, entertainment voor kinderen in de Westin Kids Club en een casino in Vegas-stijl. De badkamer is zeer ruim en heeft een bad/douche en toilet, gebruik van badjassen en een haardroger. Deze kamer hebben uitzicht over het resort.

Het eiland Sint Maarten is verdeeld in een Nederlands en een Frans deel. Het Nederlandse deel is gelegen in het zuiden. De hoofdstad van het Nederlandse deel is de gezellige stad Philipsburg. In deze stad zijn er veel winkels en een gezellige boulevard met restaurants en bars, gelegen langs de Great Bay met prachtig helderblauw water. Het Nederlandse deel van Sint Maarten heeft veel te bieden. Zo is hier de luchthaven van het eiland te vinden, alsmede de bekendste attractie van het eiland, de Sunset Beach Bar. Hier kunt u onder het genot van een hapje en drankje genieten van spetterende entertainmentshows. Omdat in dit deel de luchthaven van Sint Maarten te vinden is, is het Nederlandse deel van Sint Maarten het perfecte startpunt van uw Sint Maarten vakantie.

"Quiet and relaxing place"

We ended up staying at the hotel's condo after purchasing a time share package. We only stayed one night but we really enjoyed ourselves. The service staff was warm and friendly and aimed to please. The staff members are what one would expect from a Westin resort. We enjoyed a cabana on the beach and while we were there, the GM Daniel stopped by and introduced himself. We chatted a good amount of time on a number of topics. Nice touch. Food was very good and reasonably priced compared to places in the states. I read a number of complaint reviews for this place after staying here on how it isn't up to "Westin standards." I don't ever expect everything to be the same in every place especially when coming to the Caribbean. The complaints from past guests appear to be from very stuffy people that wouldn't know how to enjoy themselves even if it was served up on a silver platter. We enjoyed our stay and we look forward to many more years to come. BTW, the front bartender Kayan was awesome! Too bad the place isn't busy enough even during high season to support a craps table in the casino. Great job Daniel and his entire staff. See you next year!

"Bad lunch, horrible casino, and scam timeshare presentation gift"

We did the scratch off cards they give out in Philipsburg and my wife had the triple 7 which meant we had won one of three main prizes. So next day we went out to listen to the 90 min timeshare presentation and claim our prize. We had been warned that the longer you kept the manager talking the better the deal would be. It started at $50k and came down to $17k buy in plus $100 month fees for one week. We had lunch in the Ocean restaurant while we talked about it and I ordered the crispy tune roll. What came was a tuna roll in over 1/3 inch soggy batter. I showed the waitress (Rosy, who was wonderful!) and she said oh no that's not right and comped the meal. The bad lunch clinched our decision to say no to the timeshare. We had been told the prize was 4 nights at any Westin resort in the world but it turned out to be 4 nights at just that one Westin. Normally I am a huge fan of Westin and their heavenly beds but this one is bad with a very windy Atlantic beach and a horrendous casino in the middle of the lobby (I viscerally hate casinos). With a better restaurant and a leeward beach instead of windward we would have been interested but we will not bother even to claim the free the free four nights.

"Great time in St Maarten"

We have a timeshare at the WDB, and have visited several times. The resort is very pretty with green lawns, coconut palms, and beautiful white sand of Dawn Beach. The condo itself is very comfortable and spacious. We have found the staff to be friendly and helpful. On those occasions where we needed something, the response was quick and courteous. Based on our trips around the island, WDB looks like one of the finer resorts available. The pool is large, with plenty of lounges. Alexander was our waiter for several days, and remembered everyone by name and was very friendly and attentive. We dined at the Ocean restaurant, where Deborah was our server. She noted that I was less than thrilled about my steak (although I told it was "fine"), and she struck the charge from our bill. It was a very nice act, and much appreciated.

"Third Year and Counting"

This was our third year in a row staying at the Westin in St. Maarten. The past two years we've visited in March, but this time we waited until the first week in May which is considered the "low season". Our experience was greater than we could've imagined. Initially, we booked a resort view room, but were upgraded immediately at check-in to ocean front, and by ocean front I mean 50 feet from the water. On top of that, when we returned to our room after dinner there was a wine and cheese plate waiting for us. The level of service and attention is second to none from any place we've ever stayed. The staff remembers your name - even from your previous stays - asks about your stay so far and always asks if there's anything they can do to make your experience better. Not to mention the fact that they always go out of their way to make your stay special and unique. For instance, we decided to make it a hotel day and didn't venture out on one of the days on our stay. While we were sitting at "our spot" by the pool, Shane - the head of security - came over and asked if we wanted a coconut that he was about to cut down from one of the trees. Of course we said yes, and he cut down a coconut, opened it up and handed it off without a sweat. I'm not sure of many other places that offer this type of service without even asking. Shane is a great source of information for places to eat, nightlife etc. so if the concierge isn't available then he's your man. Not to mention that he'll remember you, your interests and the like when you inevitably return the next year. Oh and I almost forgot to give a mention to Juan who is one of the best bartenders I've met. Make sure to ask for the BBC. I also highly recommend the two restaurants at the Westin. While we normally venture out to eat, the times we've eaten dinner at the hotel were absolutely amazing. I will say that it's probably a good idea to rent a car if you're staying at the Westin and plan on venturing out. Navigating St. Maarten is really easy by car and the hotel's proximity to both the Dutch and French sides gives you so many options for amazing food and other beaches that you might not see otherwise. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about the Westin Dawn Beach and the wonderful professional service they provide. They've always made us feel like we're at home and I would recommend the Westin to anyone.

"Not bad...seemed lonely"

Checked in for a one night stay on the 9th. Arrived at 2:45PM from the airport and was surprised when I was told no room was available at that time and to return at 3PM. The person I was with, who had the reservation was equally as shocked. We went to park the car, grab our bags, and returned to be told our room was ready. (It was about 3pm at this time) The room was large and had a great view of the pool/ocean. No complaints there. It was June and it is the low season on the island, but I was surprised at how empty the hotel/pool/casino were during our one night. We never ran into any of the time share people that are mentioned in the other reviews and never felt pressured to sit through any kind of presentations. We ate breakfast on the morning of check out at the buffet. It was good food, but lacked any local flavor that I have found in other Westin/Starhot properties I have stayed in.
