"Renovated? Ski school? Not so much."
Just came back from 4 night stay at the 'newly renovated' Fairmont Tremblant. Stayed in a 1 bedroom suite overlooking the pool. I guess all the renovation dollars went into the lobby/main floor, because our rooms looked(and smelled) like the last reno they saw was sometime in the 90's. Could not get the thermostat to function consistently-had to ask for an extra duvet, as the room would not heat up and the 'duvet' on the bed had no fill whatsoever left between the baffles (sadly, neither did the extra. Can only assume they were also 1990's originals). That being said, we did not come here for the room, but to learn to ski, so we looked forward to our ski lessons for my husband and myself, and ski school, which we booked through the Fairmont, months before. We planned for lessons on day one and practicing our new skills on the slopes for the rest of our stay. We were to be at the base of the mountain at 9:30 for our son's ski school, and 9:45 for ourselves. We got downstairs to the ski rental shop at the Fairmont just before 9, and although there was a crowd of people there, no one seemed to know where to go. One side is for rentals, and one side is for 'ski valet', which is just a quick pick up or drop off spot if you already have your skis. With about 15 people ahead of us in the ski rental line, we waited FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF!!! Of course halfway through the line someone mentions some additional paperwork that you need to fill out, although we prebooked and paid online, so hopefully you have someone with you so you can go search for the person who has this additional last minute paperwork, and you don't lose your place in line. By the way-not just us-everyone around us was like 'there's another paper? where do I get it?'. Now, the ski valet side is very quick, requiring one only to hand in one's tickets and get one's skis, yet they had 4 people staffing this function, and only 2 running the rentals! The rentals involves measuring everyone's feet, getting the correct size boots and skis and poles, showing kids how to put them on, adjusting skis to boot sizes-very time consuming-yet only 2 people working here! So after an hour and a half of waiting, hot and sweaty in our ski gear, we have missed the start of our lessons and ski school. No, we cannot join them in progress, and no, we cannot be rescheduled for the next day, as it is full, but they can put us into the following day's classes. Perfect-we learn to ski on our last day at the resort:-( We knew it would be busy, and showed up early, but the surely the Fairmont should have anticipated this kind of rush and staffed appropriately, it being spring break and all. The hotel knows what capacity they are at and how many are booked for lessons on what days, so as far as I am concerned there was no reason for this to be such a mess. Extremely disappointed to have come all this way, and spent all this $$$ for one day of skiing.
"Superb ski resort hotel"
Very nice hotel, location is superb. The pool is not big, but the have a outdoor poll all year around, it is a mass in the pool area between 5-7PM. The breakfast is good but expensive. Only valet parikng is avilable, costs an additional 25CAD.
Thé service was good but it’s too expansive. Parking and wifi are extra. The food is sooo expansive. 185$ for buffet for 3 (pizza and jello) We loved thé outside pool. Room are old and bed not that confortable
"More of a 4.5 family stay."
We decided to stay at fairmont tremblant over Christmas break for about 7 days. We are a family of 4- with 2 boys ages 6 and 11. We primarily chose this as it's the only ski in ski out place. That itself was truly worth it for us. The ability to get your tickets and rentals- and then they were able to hold on to our rentals right there, which was wonderful. We were able to try out 2 room categories. First we stayed in a one bedroom suite- which was fine. It had a full kitchen which we didn't really take advantage of- as we were on vacation and wanted to eat out mostly. Dated furniture/ bathroom but in good condition. Bed not as comfortable. Then we had 2 connecting rooms on their gold floor- which was superb! The beds very comfortable. And the gold floor lounge is what made it worth it. Breakfasts- with limited choices was actually better than the buffet downstairs. And evening canapés depending on the theme for the night ranged from very good to excellent. We loved hanging out, eating/ drinking ( they had a honor bar that they would charge to the room), playing games there almost every evening. We enjoyed several of their other amenities as well. The pool, ice skating ( although at a little distance) and movies ( regular chairs which do get uncomfortable after a while). We went snow tubing which they offered at the property- which was awful. It was very disorganized, only one lane running ( even though they had 2) with a wait in the freezing cold for 30-40 Minutes to go down once. They need to figure that one out better. Their buffet restaurant was really not up to par. Neither for breakfast or for dinner ( we had one night). Many choices- but nothing amazing. Their fine dining restaurant on the other hand where we had dinner one night was excellent. Our well behaved kids were very welcome. I don't remember if they had a kids menu- as our boys tend to order of the regular menu anyway ( they were able to split a main course). Would have preferred to go there twice, instead of the buffet. $25/day for the valet- which you have to get ( since parking is far) is a bit steep. They were always good about having the car ready when we called though. And we were able to get free wifi by joining their membership. The last thing I would like to point out- the overall friendliness of all the staff. Always a smile on everyone's face- which is missing from many American resorts. The concierge on the main floor and on the gold floors were amazing ( I'm sorry I don't remember names anymore- but they were all great) We would definitely return.
"Stay for the Ski in/out only"
We just got back from a long weekend of skiing. Let me start by saying that this is the only "luxury" hotel that is ski in/out. You cant beat the location because you are right on the mountain and in the end of the day can ski to the hotel. However, for a luxury hotel we were very upset when we found out that there is no complimentary Wifi in the hotel for guests. If you need to use it it's 25$ a day which we all thought is ridiculous. The rooms are outdated and the price for food and drinks is very overpriced.
