If you're tired of the usual hotel fare, this is a good relief from that. It's small, well situated a few blocks from the heart of Montreal, and well within walking distance. I've been here a couple of times before -- once many years ago, and we stayed in the Versailles suite, and it was a completely wonderful romantic weekend away. The second time, I was there a couple of years ago, and stayed in a room in the basement, and it was anything but romantic, but I was there for business, so that was fine. This time, we had a small, but comfortable room on the upper floor of the westerly building -- no great views, but the bed was comfortable, the shower nice, the wi-fi fast, and the price was definitely reasonable for the accommodation. Parking is a bit of a problem here -- the valet parking is expensive, and as I knew we'd be out late, and I was planning to leave early with the car on a day ski trip, I balked, but was able to find parking out front. There were a few occasions where it took a bit of time to find parking, but it certainly was worth the bother. Breakfast was part of the rate, and it's fine -- nothing to rant about, but for an included breakfast, was more than adequate. What's really nice about this hotel is just the overall feel. It's small, it's welcoming, it's comfortable and it's reasonably priced. There are a few things that need to be said about the fact that you are staying in a heritage property. Noise transmission between rooms is an issue -- we could clearly hear the people in another room as if they were in the room almost. If you are frail, and you pale at the idea of walking steps, this is not the hotel for you. It's few steps up to the entrance, and our room was two further flights up. Not a problem, generally, but if you have issues with stairs, you are forewarned. Someday I'll have to go back and stay in the Versailles Suite.....
"Nice hotel for price"
Located on a busy street in a quiet neighborhood, this older hotel is quiet and comfortable in a quirky way. Breakfast was included and quite good. The staff were accommodating and friendly. There is a doorman most of the time. Overall, an enjoyable stay. My room was in the back on a narrow alleyway and two floors up. Very quiet although you could here bathroom noises next door. The floor was a bit squeaky.
"Nice surprise, 25 minute walk to train station"
Typically if have stayed at a large chain on this trip but the friend I was going with wanted his own room so we decided to save a few bucks and stay here. Rooms are very spacious and clean. Was upgraded to a king room. Breakfast included was fresh and more than enough unless you need the bacon. You can order a wider selection from room service if it does not meet your need. My only issue was the mattress was too soft for my liking and I woke with a slight sore back. But that's my issue.
"Downtown Montreal Gem"
Loved everything about this place. Old building but has tons of charm. The front desk staff was extremely helpful and went out of their way to give us recommendations for places to visit around the city during our stay. Will definitely be returning!
"Convenient location; elegant rooms; friendly staff"
We visit Montreal occasionally to drop in our daughter who is a student at McGill University. Chateau Versailles was a great find. The room was comfortable and well appointed. I loved the old building and the history associated with it. No elevator, but climb to second floor was not arduous. Endless supply of pain au chocolat on breakfast bar.
