Our family stayed there for two nights on a vacation. The hotel location is very central and the hall is beautiful and the room is nicely decorated. The room is a reasonable size and the view of the city is wonderful. We dove there and the parking was a bit pricey bit acceptable. We love to return there someday.
"Not nearly as nice as the Ottawa or Quebec City Fairmont hotels"
Good location, hotel ok, but probably there are better places to stay in Montreal. But the Fairmonts in Quebec City and Ottawa are not to be missed. The pool was quite nice even though it's underground.
"Wonderful Holiday Getaway "
I am late in writing this, but am reminiscing about the wonderful 5 days that my daughter and I spent here last December /January. We would have happily rung in the New Year in the same place for this year, but, alas, it is closed for renovations. I was personally a fan of the Reine Elizabeth pre-reno. Old can mean venerable without being tired out, and having character need not imply shabby or worn out, rather a well "worn-in." Fingers crossed that the changes are not too extreme. I have stayed at this hotel many times before, but never for so long, and never as the base camp for winter holidays with my daughter. We arrived by train - if you are staying in and exploring Montréal proper, there is no need to bring a car. The Reine Elizabeth is located directly above the Gare Centrale, so we were able to exit the train and enter the hotel without having to go outdoors - what a treat! This also means that you can get pretty much anywhere in Montréal that is further than a short walk from the hotel via the network of pedestrian walkways and transit systems that are available through and connected by the Gare. Our room was not large by current Canadian standards, but bigger than many European rooms that I have stayed in. We had a breathtaking view, very comfortable beds, wonderful amenities, and space for everything that we brought, bought and otherwise acquired - plus a room service cart for that one breakfast in bed that we thought we deserved. How much room does one need in a hotel room, anyway? Unless you are John Lennon and Yoko Ono (yes, this is where they recorded "Give Peace a Chance"), you are there to sleep, perhaps to rest/change and to get clean. The WiFi was reliable and adequate. The restaurant/bar/Beaver Club served extraordinary food and drink with exquisite service. We had several meals/snacks in the more casual resto/bar, partook of the awe-inspiring New Year's Day brunch buffet in the Beaver Club, and ate a late New Year's Day buffet dinner in the fine dining restaurant, complete with a serenade from a guitar strumming musician. Magnifique! All of the staff, from housekeeping to servers to front desk to doormen and concierges were well above par. Professional, polite, helpful... all French-English bilingue and most multi-lingue, they did their jobs exceptionally and courteously without ever being obsequious. Oh - and the fitness /pool staff - also superb! We shopped, visited the museum and saw the Casse-Noisette at the Place des Beaux Arts, went to a jazz club, visited the outdoor winter market and strolled with hot wine in one hand and cheese fondue in a hollowed out baguette in another. We went to my favourite Swiss fine dining restaurant and were entertained by a chanteuse performing everything from Edith Piaf to Peggy Lee. We went for fresh bagels to settle for ourselves which were Montréal ' s finest, and visited 4 very different clubs to ring in the New Year. We skated, and played on light-colored, musical see-saws in the dark. All of this was accomplished without straying very far from the hotel. When our five magic days were over, we packed up our bags, headed down the escalator and boarded the train for home. I fervently hope that the photos on the wall chronicling the hotel's history are still there after the reno. I can't wait to be a guest here again.
Perfect location, positioned above the railway station in the city centre. It was several weeks away from closing for a 12 month refit and refurbishment throughout as very old and in need of of a lot of maintenance. When it opens in June 2017, it should be the place to stay.
"Housekeeping forgot something ..."
I have stayed at this property numerous times before, and returned for business recently. The room was fine, typical Fairmont quality and size. However, housekeeping had forgotten to open up the armoire (an old TV cabinet now empty because of the new TV in the room), and the previous guest had left a small collection of (unopened) jam jars, fruit and mini muffins in the cabinet! Everything else was perfectly OK. I pointed out the oversight to front desk, and they were duly taken aback. I asked if they could please get rid of the old food. When they asked if I needed the entire room cleaned, I said no, just please send someone to take care of the food. I then went out for dinner. Upon my return to the room, I found a lovely note from management and some treats (chocolates, etc.), but the old food from the previous guest was STILL THERE! Well, I would still rate this property as "very good" because overall it is quite top notch, but this particular incident really had me raising my eyebrows. Would still recommend because it generally lives up to Fairmont standards, and is very conveniently located.
