"Housekeeping forgot something ..."
I have stayed at this property numerous times before, and returned for business recently. The room was fine, typical Fairmont quality and size. However, housekeeping had forgotten to open up the armoire (an old TV cabinet now empty because of the new TV in the room), and the previous guest had left a small collection of (unopened) jam jars, fruit and mini muffins in the cabinet! Everything else was perfectly OK. I pointed out the oversight to front desk, and they were duly taken aback. I asked if they could please get rid of the old food. When they asked if I needed the entire room cleaned, I said no, just please send someone to take care of the food. I then went out for dinner. Upon my return to the room, I found a lovely note from management and some treats (chocolates, etc.), but the old food from the previous guest was STILL THERE! Well, I would still rate this property as "very good" because overall it is quite top notch, but this particular incident really had me raising my eyebrows. Would still recommend because it generally lives up to Fairmont standards, and is very conveniently located.
"So much history to this Hotel...can't wait for the 2017 Grand Reopening"
Have stayed here about a dozen times over the years; it is so convenient if you arrive by train (Via Rail main station is the basement). It's ranks in the top 2 of my go-to hotels for Montreal. There's a large food court and attached shopping if you need some more choices. An underground pathway can bypass a lot of street walking. The staff are very friendly and the service is excellent. In recent years though, the morning sun really shows her age, The renovation, much like the Fairmount Royal York, is highly anticipated to breath some new life into this property. Many people are unaware of the rich history to this hotel and who some of its guests have been. It's worth the time to read up. Hopefully, the renovation keeps some of that history intact.
"Boys weekend to watch UFC"
Weekend trip with the boys. great location - steps from Ste.Catherine Street and a short walk from the Bell Centre where we watched a UFC match. Rooms are in the smaller side but clean and to be expected from these older hotels. Went for a swim and hot tub. No sauna though!
"Such a great stay!"
My mom and I took the train from Toronto to Montreal to celebrate her 62nd birthday in April of this year. She hadn't been to the city since she was a teenager so what a perfect, fun way to celebrate together. We stayed 2 nights. This was my first time staying at Fairmont the Queen Elizabeth and I was impressed! The hotel is attached to the train station so that made travel so very easy. Upon check in there was a bit of a line but there was also a conference going on so that was to be expected. The person who checked us in was very friendly, nice and quick. I mentioned it was my mom's birthday and we were surprised with a beautiful plate of macaroons and other small pastries and a sweet birthday card from the staff. Our room was a decent size with 2 double beds which were very comfortable. The bathroom and room were very clean and pleasant. We were so tired one night after a LONG but great day that we watched some telly for an hour or two in total comfort. All staff we had encounters with were very accommodating and helpful whenever we had a question. I wish I could comment on the other amenities offered but we didn't have time to take advantage of them as this hotel is central to pretty much everything you'd want to see as a tourist. We could walk to the Eaton Centre, Old Montreal and Mount Royal. The only time we took a taxi was when we went to the Casino. I truly enjoyed my time at this hotel as did my mom. I understand it is currently closed, but once it is reopened I will be sure to visit again. ** I will add some photos once I find where I put them :S **
"Closed until June 2017"
My wife and I stayed here for four consecutive nights on a recent visit to Montreal. We choose this location based on the positive TripAdvisor reviews as well as the excellent location. This is a very nice hotel and we really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were large, clean, and maintained. This is a very nice property and is in an excellent location within walking distance of many of Montreal’s top attractions. Update: One week after our stay this hotel has started their renovation. To execute the renovations, the hotel will be closed for 12 months starting mid-June 2016. The hotel will reopen in June 2017. All the common areas and about 500 guest rooms will be ready in time for the celebrations marking the 375th anniversary of Montreal and the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation.
