"A bit disappointed in our experience"

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for one night during the third week of August. We came with our two grandsons. The whole theme of this hotel looked quite impressive and interesting, Three things that really disappointed us was the price (too expensive for what we got), lack of a complimentary breakfast and no A/C. BC had a heat wave for most of the summer, so our room was almost unbearably hot. The two small fans that were in the room didn't actually help too much. The grandkids really enjoyed the pool with it's neat slide, as well as the sauna. It certainly was an interesting experience but the next time we take the grandkids away for their overnight with us, it will probably be at another hotel which isn't as overpriced as we felt this one was.

"Old motel, nice paint job"

Just arrived in hotel Zed after a two and a half week tour around Canada. So far all our hotels were clean, had a microwave and cooker, and had good isolation. Unfortunately the same can't be said for hotel Zed. As for cleanliness, the room seems to be ok, but the bathroom clearly shows signs of not so thorough previous cleaning (think plaster in the shower starting to turn brown). Since the microwave and cooker were missing we asked if they could be provided. Sadly only a cooker was vacant. The whole vibe of the hotel is very nice, hip and colorful. Look past this first layer and all that remains is an old noisy motel with a with a very colorful paint job. Let's hope we will be positively surprised in the coming three nights.

"Very good, could be better"

The place was clean and quiet, good value for the money. The lobby was fun with all the retro paraphernalias. Basically everything was right for the price range except the following... 1. Replace the bath tub and tiles with the one piece acrylic tub/shower. Old tile grout is not pleasant to look at. 2. Each bed should have four pillows, not the supplied two. I know you can request for more, why the extra work for the guests. 3. Internet works great, but each time we come back it has to be re-login.

"Fun place!"

We stayed here on our yearly trip to the island before carrying on to Comox. This hotel is awesome! We had two dogs and everyone was very friendly to them. The slide is really fun and the hotel had a great vibe! We can't wait to visit again.

"My last stay at a "boutique hotel""

We chose this hotel because it was reasonably priced, had decent reviews, and looked to be fairly close to the downtown area of Victoria. I had hesitation about choosing a "boutique hotel" because all the other ones I've stayed at have been disappointing, but pretty much all the other hotels were really expensive due to the holiday (Labor Day) weekend. Unfortunately, this "boutique hotel" was no different than the other ones I've experienced. It was cute on a surface level, but the overall quality was not good. There is no A/C in the rooms, which was a major pain because it was actually a pretty warm weekend. They had a couple small fans in the room, but we still were constantly overheated. The room was fine other than that, but fairly small and not as cute as the photos would suggest. The water in the shower was constantly oscillating back and forth between hot and freezing, the built-in shower gel/shampoo/conditioner were like soap-scented water, the "fan" in the bathroom was actually a nuclear-hot heater (thus, no ventilation), and the view outside our window was of a used car lot flanked by a Toyota dealership. The pool, hot tub, and sauna at the hotel were fine, although the latter two were not very warm. They also have a ping-pong room below the lobby, which was a fun surprise, but unfortunately that also proved to be disappointing because the paddles looked and felt like they came from the dollar bin at Walmart. The staff in the lobby were not rude, but not particularly friendly either, just average. The location of the hotel is on one of Victoria's main roads that leads to downtown, which was convenient enough, but it is about a 15-minute drive from the downtown area. It's not that far, but we found ourselves wishing we had spent a little more money to be more in the heart of the city. Two positive things I can say about this hotel are that the free coffee in the lobby is quite good, and the food at the hotel's restaurant (The Ruby) is also pretty tasty (although slightly overpriced). Overall, we felt this hotel was overpriced and disappointing, and if we return to Victoria for another visit, we will stay elsewhere.
