"Intimate setting with a lot of charm"
A nice change of pace from the regular chain hotels. This is a converted historic inn with a lot of charm to the room. Really high ceilings, hardwood floors, historic charm but it had all the modern amenities one would want and need. Wifi is available, cable/digital tv and anything else you might need. There is no elevator though. There is a complimentary continental breakfast on site and the grounds of the Inn is quite nice.
My husband and I stayed overnight on October 25 to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary. I had stayed hear over 20 years ago and this was my second visit (aside from many lunches I have enjoyed there over the years). We stayed in the Captain Burgess room which is a superior room overlooking the front of the inn. It had a large 4 poster queen size bed and a fireplace with an electric insert. It was very nice. The bed is high and has two steps to get up. I used the steps...my husband is 6'5" and did not need them haha. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating. We did not eat dinner at the inn but we had the continental breakfast in the morning. It consisted of bread, bagels, fruit, yogurt and cereal. Of course there was juice, tea and coffee as well. My husband said the house made granola was delicious. We would stay there again.
"Beautiful historic inn"
Loved the aesthetics: the rooms, the grounds, the furniture, and the building. Beautiful setting close to Acadia University. No elevator though so we ended up lugging suitcases up to the 3rd floor. So if that matters to you ask for a room close to the entrance. (There are stairs into the building too. So if it really matters, best look elsewhere.) Also, I was sad that they just had a continental breakfast. It's free but I would happily have paid for eggs etc. I mean they've got a full kitchen and they are open for dinner so why not breakfast? Toasting your own bagels at such a nice place seems wrong.
"Great private getaway"
We stayed here for our anniversary in the Brooks suite. If was fantastic, cozy and private. The Dinner in the Di IMG room was great and all for a good price. About 330 tax in. I would highly recommend it for a great trip out of the city to rewind or relax.
"A romantic gamble with minor compromises"
This is a piece of history and probably worth the price just to tour it. My room was a suite in the rear addition with a large bath. It is beautiful. Unfortunately the compromises make themselves pretty apparent. The laminated card on the Kwickset room keys are a little awkward in pocket. The layout had my clothes in one room, and the bed in another with a bath in the middle. I took a lot of steps in the morning to get retrieve items from pants or to pick up my cellphone to put myself together in the morning The free standing shower was good to have, but a dated 80s style with no elbow room, when there clearly was space available. And the breakfast is lacking in hot protein options (eggs/sausage). Each room in different, so the experience can vary for each visitor. The concept is romantic including the 2 person jetted tub. Should I find myself on a romantic holiday in the valley near the bay, this is a perfect concept. As a business traveler, I like to use my laptop and see the TV at the same time, and that doesn't happen here. In order to hold to its 1890's aesthetic, each move to modernity forces compromise on the old girl. But seriously, the heat is good, the outlets are plentiful enough, the staff service is very good, and the WIFI is OK, and the upkeep is immaculate. You don't comer here for a modern hotel.
