Tenzing Travel Best Deal

Deze Inn is een gerestaureerd kapiteins huis dat in 1881 gebouwd was voor Rufus Burgess die in zijn tijd ongeveer 80 schepen bezat. Het huis is uiteindelijk in 1980 de Blomidon Inn geworden. Nu staat het bekend als de "Signature Inn" van Nova Scotia. De Inn heeft een mooie grote tuin, tennisbaan en de "Blomidon Inn House of Gifts. Het restaurant van de Inn is erg goed en staat bekend om het gebruik van producten uit de eigen moestuin en van lokale bedrijfjes.

De plaats Digby ligt aan Smith's Cove op Nova Scotia, op tien minuten rijden van de veerboot vanuit Saint John en op 100 kilometer van de Bar Harbour veerboten in Yarmouth.

"A lovely place to stay"

We loved this place -- one of the highlights of our trip. We stayed in the Perth Cottage. It was much larger than I thought it would be! Very private. Nice sitting area outside for in the evening. The bed was very comfortable although squeaky. The other furniture was also squeaked, but it didn't bother me. The room is very nicely decorated. Lots of towels that were very plush.

This is an absolutely one of the most gorgeously decorated Victorian style buildings I've been in. The front drive takes through beautiful gardens. The woodwork as you enter the building is an testimony to the days gone by. Each room is no less decorated. With a very friendly staff who are frequently available for help, we had an amazing stay. The restaurant at night was absolutely a must eat location. Good food and delicious local wines. The grounds are well maintained gardens that one could relax for hours in or just to take short walk. I would highly recommend this B and B.

If you like old historic inns, this place is for you. If you like an impressive front entrance and landscaping, this place is for you. If you like hard beds that squeak and are impossible to get out of without disturbing your partner, this place is for you. If you like a place with a noisy air conditioning unit that hums at a decibel level near intolerable, this place is for you. If you like a Jacuzzi tub in your bathroom, this place is for you. If you like a bathroom exhaust fan that rivals the A/C unit noise, this place is for you. If you want a good night's sleep this may not be the place for you and you can save some major bucks by checking out other area inns/B&B's -- there is a lot of competition in the area. There are a lot of good things about this inn but definitely some areas for improvement. When I checked out I asked the front desk for a comment card so I could give them some feedback on my stay. The two fellows at the front desk responded "we don't have comment cards" with a tone that rang out: can't you see the parking lot is full... we don't need to make any improvements. So despite the disinterest, I did proceed to give them my verbal suggestions on how they could improve their inn: 1). Replace their mattresses with something more comfortable and modern. 2) use more luxurious bedding -- when you're charging $255 per night plus tax there is an expectation of some luxury with the bedding and pillows 3) install more modern air conditioning – all other inns and B&B's we stayed seem to have installed quiet AC units except for this place – this is a genuine window shaker unit. 4) The bathroom exhaust fan is on the same switch as the bathroom light – would be OK if the bathroom fan were a modern quiet one – this one is noisier than the air conditioning unit. So don't accidentally go in the bathroom in the middle of the night and flip the light on because if you haven't awakened your partner when you got out of bed, you will when you throw the light switch in the bathroom. I understand this is an old building but upgrades to the bathroom for example have been done and they have overlooked some basic creature comforts that an inn of this price point should have dealt with long ago. In talking with another couple and breakfast on the morning we were departing I mention my suggestions and they absolutely agreed and encouraged me to let the front desk know my thoughts. The only other comment from the front desk to my suggestions was that "most of our guests like the hard beds." Without a comment card to encourage feedback, how would they know that? It's hard to imagine that upon checking out and paying that guests would say "they love the hard beds." On the positive side, the restaurant is excellent – my suggestion is to stay elsewhere and dine here. They are living on past reputation and need to realize that competition is out there and soon going to clean their clock unless they update their guest facilities.

Can’t say enough good things about this inn. The included continental buffet breakfast was delicious with fresh muffins, yogurt, granola, and a generous amount of fruit. We were in a room with a well-equipped kitchen that was clean and bright. All the staff were very helpful, friendly, and they all made an extra effort to accommodate our last-minute reservations. One night, we had an elegant dinner at the Inn. We were seated in the beautiful, historic library and the food was delicious and well presented. The gardens were beautiful to stroll around. Definitely worth every penny.

This restaurant works for both classy and casual outings. The menu is well varied, and the staff are accommodating and knowledgeable when it comes to dietary issues (ie gluten). They handle large and small group gatherings well. The big bonuses to your dining experience are the charm of the building and grounds, and there is even a lovely gift shop next door with some real treasures.
