Over Harbour Lights Inn

Beautiful view, but not up to par in any other way. Our room was on the top floor, luckily we are in pretty good shape, but it should be made known when booking that you could be going up that many stairs to get to your room and offered a choice. Room was clean, bed had a loose headboard that banged up against the wall with every little movement, we ended up putting a pillow behind it. The blinds in our room wouldn't stay up, so we had to keep them closed as the wind rattled the steel slats on them very loudly. Made for a very warm night. No B&B should offer self-serve breakfast with containers of cereal and a box of "Quaker 5 Variety" instant oatmeal. Eggs were the only cooked offering, and they were served incorrectly, found it hard to understand how you could get "over hard" wrong. Definitely wouldn't go back.
My husband was unfortunately taken ill on the evening we arrived and spent our two nights here in our room. The owner couldn't have been more welcoming, helpful and concerned, allowing me free reign of drink making and even cereals should he have wished to eat. Our room was downstairs and comfortable and the lounge area very comfortable as I spent most of the time here. There was a range of cereals, toast and cooked breakfast which was more than filling and it's within walking distance of shops, a museum, eateries and one boat tour.
"Hats off to Melinda"
We stayed in a twin room which had everything we needed. It was really hot during our stay & the ceiling fan helped cool us but we would like to have been able to open a window. Melinda manages everything beautifully and put on a great breakfast including home made banana bread! We would love to return someday.
"Quite good but no high praise"
This older building has been updated (somewhat cheaply) and offers quite reasonable accommodation. The proprietor is pleasant and works hard. Breakfast is satisfying. The WiFi works. It faces right onto Twillingate harbour. Rooms on the front side have a decent view (although the downside is some road noise from Main Street just in front. Fortunately in a village this size there isn't a lot of traffic at night. Furnishings are a bit spartan. All in all, it's quite okay but there is nothing to gush about. I would stay again.
"I thought this place was very cute"
This Inn is in a small NL fishing community. So adjust your expectations accordingly. I thought it was a cute Inn. Charming. Small rooms yes but I thought it was cozy. If you can't handle stairs, book somewhere else. Each room does have its own bathroom. Our room had a cute window seat. We had a wonderful ocean view. The front porch is charming. The rooms are very clean. The decor is warm and cozy. In the morning you have to "make" your own breakfast. I noticed a lot of reviewers complaining about this. I don't understand why. All the food is laid out for you, you just have to select what you want. When I was there the owner had laid out several kinds of bread for toast, jams, watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, yogurt, fresh banana bread, other baked goods, tea, coffee and juice. As well, she prepared eggs if you wanted them. I thought this was an excellent way to serve breakfast. And she certainly was generous with the food. We ate so much we skipped lunch! It is in a great location. Free parking. We stayed for two nights. I really enjoyed it. I would stay here again.
