"Fantastic place to stay"
We received a great reception on arrival. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely spacious room with a view across to the St Lawrence River over the rooftops. The restaurant is very good. An excellent location for visiting Old Quebec but quiet at night.
"A great destination "
We recently returned to Hotel 71 for a lovely mini vacation in the fabulous city of Quebec. We were given a corner room on the 7th floor and the view was fantastic. We were treated to a fireworks display on Canada Day. Happy Birthday Canada. The king bed was super comfortable and you never want to leave the shower. The staff at the hotel was helpful and so very pleasant. The included breakfast is a great way to start the day. My only issue with the hotel was only one working elevator during part of our stay. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
"Great location, nice rooms"
Hotel 71 has a great location. Rooms had a remodeled warehouse modern feel, very comfortable, spacious bathrooms. Loved the L'oocitaine products. In general service was very good except for the breakfast staff. Except for 2 of the servers the rest just seemed unhappy to be there. I also would have liked to have the option to order and pay for a warm breakfast, but was told by the server the option was not available. Continental breakfast was ok, breads, coffee and yogurt were really good. It would be nice if the hotel was consistent in informing the guest that breakfast closes at 10.30 not 11am like its says in the elevator monitors and information book in the room. We arrived at closing on one of the days thinking we had half an hour left and since we noticed attitude in the staff decided to leave. We like starting our day with a positive attitude and discovered a wonderful breakfast place called Buffett de l'Antiquaire a block away. Overall good stay and a wonderful are to stay in.
"Go with the Suite"
Was very happy we decided on the larger suite for our stay. Its in the corner of the hotel with a view of the river, and a slice view of the frontanac and the famous mural through large windows. Not particularity good for families because there is not sofa bed - just a sofa but it felt very luxurious with the light pouring in and such great views. Extra points for great bathroom products, nice rain shower and robes. Service at the front desk was solicitous, breakfast was fine and certainly plentiful. Loved the location just a hair away from the middle of the action and near some excellent restaurant options.
"Super location, but pricey"
Hotel 71 is extremely well-situated for exploring all of Old Quebec's lower city (basse-ville) and within a 7-10 minute (uphill) walk of the upper city (haute-ville). Rooms are modern, clean, (boast fantastic water pressure thru both the rain shower and wand) and higher floors on the south side boast great views of the Musee de la Civilization-just across the street--and Vieux Port (Old Port) just 2 tiny blocks away. Breakfast was merely adequate, but was included for free within the room rate. Nespresso machine and free bottled water are provided in rooms and complimentary tea, coffee and newspapers provided 24/7 in the modern and comfortable lobby as well. Staff is super helpful in English and/or French and happy to assist with reservations at an of the great 4 and 5 star restaurants nearby. (Hotel 71 hosts a boistrous, modern, Italian restaurant in-house called Il Matto, but we went to Canada for French-Canadian cuisine so did not sample their food this trip). Note: ($3CAD each way will allow you to ride the nearby glass and steel funicular up/down the cliff to the Terrasse Dufferin--the cliff top promenade just outside the Chateau with views over the river and lower town port. Consider this instead of walking uphill/using the stairs and save the wear and tear of the ascent on older folks, small children, or those just wishing to reserve more of their energy for exploring this truly remarkable city).
