Over Westmark Baranof

This hotel will not win any prizes for modern, quaint, homely or particularly welcoming! Art Deco Style - rather faded glory as most of the reception rooms aren't used. We ate in the bar for instance. Quite laid back sort of service - not slick by any means. It was probably lovely at one time. We were there for a necessary night stop in Juneau before boarding our small cruise boat.
I just stayed at this hotel for 1 night, and it was so cute and quaint! The guy at the front desk was fantastic and super accommodating. I decided to grab a drink from the bar, and the bartender, Migeul, was SO engaging! He truly showed interest in wanting to know where I was from, and why I was staying in Juneau. I later ordered some food and the cook, Josh, came out to personally see if my order was up to par. It sure was! I look forward to coming back and spending more time here. Thanks guys!
"Old world charm"
This hotel was built in the 1930's and is in need of refurbishment but on saying that the facilities were good, staff very helpful. We had a large suite with plenty of room to move spread ourselves out. Juneau is a quirky, interesting town with some beautiful walks. Would definitely stay at Westmark Baranof again and hope to visit Juneau again.
"Poor location, poor parking, poor service"
Built in 1939, this hotel is located in downtown Juneau, nowhere near the airport. It is on a maze of narrow one way streets with no indication of where to park. After parking out back next to the industrial dumpster, you drag your luggage down the hill on the busted up sidewalk to the front door. Rooms and decor are fine, but certainly well worn (i.e. leather headboard was cracked and peeling). Despite all of this, they are trying to be a upscale hotel with a fancy restaurant that is not a good value (i.e. $9 salads). Could not print a PDF document from the "business center" but the front desk clerk had no interest or ability in finding out why not. Despite having booked and paid on a major booking site, I was still billed by the same front desk clerk on checkout "because there was nothing in their system" so I would have to call the front desk supervisor Monday morning to straighten out the double billing issue. I cannot think of a single reason I would ever want to stay there again.
"Older hotel with little ambiance"
We stayed at the Baranof the night before going on an Alaskan Dream cruise. The room faced the street. It was humid out and there was no air conditioning so we kept the window open while we slept. We were awakened at 2:30 am when the "historical" bar next door closed for the night and the patrons noisily left shouting and laughing. The location is good and it was convenient as our tour leaders met us in the hospitality room. Would not recommend it for vacationers.
