Over Westmark Baranof

"Staff was EXCELLENT!"
OK so I struggled between a 3 and 4 star, but the staff in my opinion made it a 4 star. The rooms are old and although soft goods updated the walls are paper thin and lots of odd noises at all houses of the night from the Plumbing or HVAC? But there was a fan provided which provided some "white noise" to block out some of the noises. But not slamming doors at 5am from rude neighbors and talking in the hallways. I am amazed how uncourteous others can be just because they have a 6am flight doesn't mean everyone in the hotel needs up! My room was ready upon arrival and checkin was a breeze. After walking 8.5 miles all over the city I wanted to relax in my room with a glass or two of wine before dinner. Well only plastic cups in the room and so I asked the front desk for a glass and he very kindly went and got me one. Billy the bartender was only guy working night I ate there and he most definitely needed help, but did his best and had a FABULOUS attitude. I also had lunch at the Capital Café because I was exhausted from the mornings activities and had another excursion planned that afternoon so decided to stay in hotel. It was very good and service was good too. Bed was comfy and showers were hot. My shampoo dispenser was empty which was a disappointment and I forgot to mention it to them and it was never refilled. Overall I am afraid this is the best Juneau has to offer! Also as others mentioned be prepared for all the homeless, pothead, drunk, junkies hanging out in front of the hotel it was definitely as bad as others have portrayed it and the City of Juneau really needs to do something.
"Front Desk Expertise"
I am so impressed with the assistance and upbeat attitude of the staff in general but especially the front desk. They are instrumental in making arrangements to host my group, find rooms and always cheerful. I want to point out Shavoy, the early morning person as even though he is fairly new he worked tirelessly to find the answer to getting some last minute meeting space. He is always cheerful, although he is used to warmer climate than Juneau, and I look forward to seeing him as I came through the front door. If you stay in Juneau the Baranof is a great choice.
"Average at best"
We were booked at this hotel through a travel agency, for a vacation in Alaska. We stayed 5 nights at this hotel. My first constructive criticism is shame on either the hotel or the agency: 2 couples spending the same amount of money are booked for 5 nights in a hotel...One room is larger, complete with microwave and refrigerator. The other room is very basic with neither amenity. When staying for 5 nights, a frig would be rather helpful. Pluses- great location , within walking distance of downtown Juneau and attractions, hiking trails, transit. Kathleen, the bartender, is a gem and should also be the concierge! Very knowledgeable of the area and very helpful with tips, ideas, advice. She knows much more than the official "concierge". Talk to her! Breakfast in the cafe was fairly priced; service was good; food was tasty. Attached coffee shop is a bonus. Negatives- aforementioned room disparity; Staff lacks attention to housekeeping, one day no coffee refills, bath mat taken and not replaced, lotion not replenished. There is a bathroom off the bar on the main floor and someone vomited in that stall and the same vomit was there three days later. Yuck. This is the only placed we stayed in while visiting Juneau, so I really can't compare it to other hotels. Interior room pics, exterior view, exterior
"Best experience at the Baranof!"
We had a great experience at the Baranof Hotel in Juneau. The hotel was perfect, and Keli at Keli's Concierge in the front lobby was the best! She signed us up for amazing trips/sight-seeing, and led us to all the gems in Juneau! Highly recommend this hotel!
"Vintage quality hotel"
The hotel was built in 1939 from what I have read. It has been updated but still has some of the refurbished hardware. Service was good no issues. The restaurant had quality food. Walking distance to just about everything downtown.
